STARLITES OCTOBER 10/16 Sing in ChurchOktoberfest at The Ramsey’s 10/2021 Fall Break No School 10/28 Parent/Teacher Conference No School 10/30 Chili Cook Off PRINCIPAL Mrs. Goll: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—it is the gift of God. Eph. 2:8. Those words were a great comfort to Martin Luther and continue to be a major doctrinal belief for Lutherans. In this month of October, we remember the Reformation and the great truth of God’s love that He keeps communicating to us through all generations. Check out the calendar; we have many activities coming up this month. We had PTL Board meeting and Board of Parochial Education meeting this week. Many, many thanks to those individuals who serve on those boards to help us govern and improve FLS. Welcome back, Eighthgraders! It’s always good to have our students return safely after field trips; we’ve heard great things about your adventures. Thanks for representing FLS so well. Singing this Sunday: All students in the school are asked to join us at First Lutheran this Sunday to sing Forever at our worship services. We’ll sing at the end of the 8:30 service and the beginning of the 11:00 service. At that time, we’ll officially receive our NLSA Accreditation. Parents, please send a note to your child’s teacher if you will not be able to join us for this celebration. TSHIRTS: If there is enough interest we will be placing another tshirt order! Please have orders turned in by October 13, 2011. See order form on the back page. OKTOBERFEST: Bring your family to the annual Oktoberfest at The Ramsey’s! October 16, come at 3:30 eat at 5:00, brats and drinks provided, bring a side dish or dessert to share. 1001 W. Grand (corner of Birch and Grand) Call if you have questions 7654568 CHAPEL OFFERING: Every year our 6th graders travel to Camp Lutherhoma. This is a great class trip that the 6th graders FLS look forward to. Lutherhoma also has many awesome summer camps for kids of all ages. Our chapel offerings in October will go to help support this important ministry. Be generous and think about letting your student go to camp next summer. PREKINDERGARTEN Mrs. Kelly: We had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch on Friday! Thank You, Parents for driving us there. Our costume party will be on Monday, October 31st. Our room moms will be calling you to remind you of what you signed up to bring. Students may wear their costumes to school that day (nothing scary please). We would love to have you join us for the party at 10:30 for the AM class and 2:30 for the PM class. We have been learning about Fire Prevention this week. Have a great week! KINDERGARTEN Ms. Miller: We had a great time at the pumpkin patch last Friday and I would like to thank all the parents that came and helped. Our "Fall Costume Party" will be on Monday Oct. 31st at 2:30 p.m. and all parents are welcome to come. We have now done three letters for the second time and we are going slower now, taking one letter a week. We have done the letters Mm, Bb and this week is Ss. Have an awesome week! 1
FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Adams: This week in first grade we are learning all about Joshua and the battle of Jericho. We will be doing many different things to help us really learn the story. Our memory verse this week is "Serve one another in love." Galatians 5:13. Please remember to sign up for a time to have a parent teacher conference with me. Our spelling words for this week are: job, jobs, dog, dogs, log, logs, make, play, look, pumpkin. I am also planning a Halloween/Reformation Party on October 31. The students will be able to wear their costumes. We will carve pumpkins and do many different math and science activities with them. We will need 4 large pumpkins to carve and 4 parents at least to help out. SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: We’re looking forward to our visit to Leonardo’s on Friday. Looks like it will be a beautiful day! Our prayers are with Garrett as he undergoes surgery today. Hope you’re feeling better very soon! Congratulations to Jill and Brylee and Kendall for reaching their AR goals! Keep reading! THIRD GRADE Ms. Svajhart: The excitement is building here in class for our field trip on Friday. In science this week we are learning about pumpkins and how they grow in preparation for our field trip. I ask that everyone please pack a paper sack lunch and things that can be thrown away. The pumpkin patch is in Burns, KS so if we leave around 9:00 I think we will make it there by 11:00. I will have printed directions for everyone by Friday. Also this week: Pictures: Everyone looked great for the pictures! We should be getting those back in a few weeks. Memory: Second Commandment and its meaning due to me by Wednesday, October 19th. Spelling: We will have a test this Thursday, October 13th and then not another one until after fall break. Reading: We are finishing up Freckle Juice and will finish it by next week and take a test on it Monday. A.R: We are at the final days of reaching our A.R. goals. Please ask your child where they are and help them read at home if they need some points to finish up. We are working toward and Ice Cream Party! Have a great week and we will see everyone Friday for our field trip. FOURTH GRADE Mrs. Klein: Even though we have a trip in the middle of the week, fourth graders are very busy with several tests and a science project due. Please keep in touch with us on the 4th grade bb. I can tell that some of us have involved our family while doing the project. That is wonderful as we all learn new things together. Thank you to Mrs. Naman for taking the class on Friday so I could be away. The first quarter is quickly coming to a close. Next Wednesday will be the last day to hand in any late work and the final day to read and take tests for meeting our AR goal. Many fourth graders have met our AR goals and a few more are very close. We are all cheering for the few that still need to read for several points. Do not give up for we think you can do it. Blessings on the week... FIFTH GRADE Mrs. Schatte: What a blessing the rain was this weekend! Thank you, God! Remember...our field trip to Leonardo's in Enid is Friday. We will go to chapel and leave after that. We will return by 3:30. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Thursday. Today was the quiz over the Northeast states and capitals. Next Wednesday holds our last region, the Southwest. That region should not tax our brains too much. :) I hope you can get outside and enjoy the weather. Middle School Mrs. Harbeson: Camp Lutherhoma was beautiful! Thanks so much to all the moms and dads who drove us there and back, stayed with us, and baked cookies. The kids really had a great time. We're quickly coming to the end of the first quarter. Please make sure all assignments are turned in and all quizzes and tests are made up. All classes will have a grammar test before Fall Break. Also, we will be grading our folders next Tuesday. I will give all students a sheet to help them organize. Remember that your folder grade is a test grade. Blessings! Ms. Lighthall: As first quarter wraps up all classes are up to date and lookin' good. 6th grade We had a test today on which I am expecting GREAT scores. The kids really took to this content and their grades should reflect that. 7th grade We have big projects in both science and religion. Continuing with organelles in science each group will report on a specific organelle. In religion we are involved in a comparative religions unit. Currently studying different Christian Religions, groups will report on Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist, or Episcopalian. These projects are big chunks of both class grades. 8th
grade We are identifying minerals by conducting different tests. By the end of the week, we will be reviewing and preparing for a test early next week. Mr. Watters: I want to thank all the parents and students for making our DC trip such a success. Secondly, the basketball workout schedule is based on the second nine weeks schedule, so please adjust to practice times that are different between now and next Wednesday.
