PRINCIPAL Mrs. Goll: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 1:2. Isn’t grace amazing? I pray that you experience much grace in your life this week and always. I know many of our families are dealing with heavy burdens these days, whether it is the loss of loved ones, illness, economic challenges, or other burdens of life. Please keep our school families in your prayers. And may God bless all of you for the many times you help to share the burdens of one another. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow evening at Family Fun Night. Come prepared to have an evening of great fun! On Friday, the teaching staff travels to Edmond for Professional Development; we’re looking forward to this opportunity to sharpen our skills and I’m sure our students are looking forward to a day off. Tutoring: Audrey Barker is our after school tutor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30. Please join us if you need help with any area of study. We will NOT have tutoring on Thursday, Sept. 15, due to Family Fun Night. Facebook: We now have an FLS page on Facebook. Mrs. Anderson sent out the link through FastDirect last week. Please check it out, “like” us, and you can receive our Starlites and other updates through that site. Electronic Starlites: A number of you have told us that you do not need the paper copy of the Starlites. Thanks. Be sure you do check it every week, so you get the pertinent information on our all school events and your student’s classroom activities. YEARBOOKS: We do have yearbooks for the 2010 2011 school year for sale. If you forgot to order one, they are $20 and will be available in the computer lab. PICTURES: It is time to begin to submit your pictures to be included in the 20112012 yearbook. Please bring them on disk or thumb drive to the computer lab before or after school. You may also email them to Mrs. Ryan at firstname.lastname@example.org. This is a great way to be sure your child is recognized for participation in activities throughout the year. It will help us a lot if you will submit your pictures within two weeks of an event. TSHIRTS: Tshirt orders must be received by September 16. I will be in the office that day if you need to drop off your order form. I will be placing the order that afternoon. LIBRARY: The end of the first quarter is fast approaching! Keep reading to reach those AR goals if you still need a little extra time there is a 3 day weekend coming up! Earn Your Ice Cream Sundae!!!!
ECE LIBRARY: We have been reading lots of books and being great listeners! Leo the Library Mouse and I are proud of you all! CHAPEL OFFERING: Our offerings for August and September will help support the Ministry of Martin Luther School in Joplin, MO. We are also collecting supplies to make school kits for Lutheran World Relief, ECE building – erasers (2 ½”) 16 or 24 crayons; Elementary: 30 cm rulers, pencil sharpeners, blunt scissors, MS: unsharpened #2 pencils, 70 sheet notebooks, pens (no gel ink). Thanks for your support. UGLY BUG CONTEST: Keep looking for those ugly bugs. Next week we will be looking at all of our bugs to try to find the really ugly specimen. Remember that it is the face of the bug that will be photographed. Smaller bugs tend to photograph better than very large bugs. No spiders or any poisonous or endangered bugs should be brought to enter. FAMILY FUN NIGHT: We are really looking forward to an exciting night, rain or shine. Remember without your help of time and supplies we could not have this great night for our kids. So, please bring your items that we have on the list ASAP. Thanks again in advance for your help. BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: The cheerleaders would like to thank everyone for supporting them at the Back to School Night dinner. The meal was a huge success. I would also like to thank all the parents and the cheerleaders that worked and a special thank you to Brooke for working. PREKINDERGARTEN Mrs. Kelly: Happy Birthday, Abigail and Raiellen! I hope to see everyone at Family Fun Night this Thursday and thank you to all the people that made this event special! Have a marvelous week! FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Adams: This week in first grade we are learning more about Moses. We will be having chapel on Thursday. some of our work. Our class is busy getting our scarecrow ready for Family Fun Night. We know our parents are busy with a lot of activities to make it a good time for all. We hope to see all of our families attending FFN. I have entered a number of projects for our students in the Kay County Fair in Blackwell. I hope some of you will have a chance to see these projects displayed at the fair. Fourth graders are planning to sing in chapel this week on Thursday. We will look for you to join us in worship. FIFTH GRADE Mrs. Schatte: We're looking forward to Family Fun Night this Thursday. Fifth graders need to bring a cake for the cake walk. Tests this week include spelling and reading on Thursday. I hope everyone enjoys their Friday off. We will begin memorizing the states and capitals and their correct spelling this week. There will be a quiz over the West next Wednesday. God's blessings on your week!
Mrs. Harbeson: Yeah for the rain! Thank you, Lord, for delivering us from the 100 degree temperatures. We'll pray that the rain will break long enough for our Family Fun Night tomorrow night! Speaking of...we still need several items for our 6th grade class! Boys are to bring a 2 liter of pop and girls are asked to bring a 2 lb. bag of unpopped popcorn (not microwave). We've only received a few items as of Wednesday morning. All classes are currently collecting items for our soldier packages. The 6th grade class is writing to Sgt. Andrea Penny; the 7th grade is writing to Sgt. Phillip LeBaron; and the 8th grade is writing to Mr. Watters’ son, E3 Kyle Watters. We will be mailing letters and gifts to them three times throughout the year. I sent a list of desired items home with each student. Whatever you can supply is much appreciated! All items need to be in my room by next Tuesday, September 20. 6th grade: Lutherhoma information is coming home today. Please ask your student to see it! Lutherhoma is scheduled for Oct. 3, 4, and 5. We have several moms who are able to go (thanks!), but we have a real need for dads, older brothers, or grandpas to go to chaperone our boys. That's it for now...blessings! Mrs. Ramsey: Everyone has had or is having their chapter 2 tests recently. Chapter 3 for 6th grade will be about decimals; 7th will do a flyby of data displays before beginning prime numbers, GCF and LCM (oh, joy). Prealgebra and algebra classes will be solving more complicated equations and inequalities. Tomorrow is Family Fun Night. We will pray for great weather and an awesome turnout. Be sure to come for the dinner to support the 7th grade fundraisers. Speaking of which, cookie dough sales were a huge success. Congrats to our top sellers, Amber, Julia and Josh. Don't forget there is no school this Friday, so have a great weekend. Please join us for our picnic worship at Lake Ponca Park this Sunday. Worship is at 11:00 with lunch to follow. In His service... Mr. Watters: Academics Essays were due yesterday in all classes. Again to review when essays are due or tests occur, please consult the bulletin board. There will be a test in sixth grade on Thursday on Chapters 6 and 7 (by the way, I am really impressed with this class of sixth graders). There will also be a short exam for 8th grade on Chapter 5 this Thursday. The next test for 7th graders will be on Wednesday, September 21 on chapters 5 and 6. The next two weeks in the eighth grade will be devoted to preparing for Washington DC. Reports and posters for DC are due on Monday, 9/19. Parents and kids, DC is a little over two weeks away. Parents, make sure you have two forms of ID and make sure your kids have their picture ID. Again, you can get these made at the tag office, and it needs to be done now. Essay on the wreath laying ceremony will be coming home on Monday. This is not mandatory, but four students will have the honor of laying a wreath. There will be a final meeting the week before we go to answer any last minute questions and provide you a final itinerary and pertinent information. Athletics there will be a basketball meeting the week of 9/26 for all parents whose students are planning on playing basketball. Final date will be in next weeks Starlites for both the DC meeting and basketball meeting. May God bless you and your family.
