PRINCIPAL - Mrs. Goll: Christ is risen! He is risen indeed. Alleluia! I hope your Easter was filled with joy. How amazing to remember God’s great love for us! How I pray that we can all share that love with one another! And, thank God for the rain. What a blessing! Remember to like us on facebook and check out our website to keep up with the latest news from the school. Have you purchased your auction tickets yet? Plan to join us on April 13 for an evening of great fun and fellowship; this is our big annual fundraiser; your support will help a lot. Principal update: We called Jeremy Ashley to be our principal and he declined that call. We now have called David Bierbaum. David and his family will visit us here at FLCS the weekend of April 14. Please pray for him as he considers this call. DO YOU KNOW: We collect ink and toner cartridges, Campbell’s labels (points), box tops and coke reward points. If you are throwing these items away it is like throwing money away! Ask your family to save them too! You may send them to school with your child and they can give them to their teacher. YEARBOOK: Have you taken pictures of any school activity? Please submit them today! Just bring your camera or SD card to the computer lab, or we can scan any picture. You can also email your pictures to arcpc@hit.net. We can scan or download them quickly, while you wait! Be sure your child’s class is represented in the yearbook. WEBSITE: Check out our new website at www.flspc.org! There is lots of information and forms that can be printed. SUMMER CHILDCARE: First Lutheran Childcare is now enrolling for the summer. Stop by the school or childcare to pick up an enrollment packet! PTL: We're looking for some committed parents who will serve on our PTL board. Please let us know if you're interested. GARAGE SALE: Huge garage sale to benefit a school family. If you have items to give us, the Youth House garage will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00-5:00 or call Beverly in the church office at 762-1111. TRACK MEET: Important notice--We've had to change the date of the Track Meet. It will be held on May 10. Please mark your calendars. Let us know if you can help. We'll need many volunteers. Thanks. TRACK T-SHIRTS: Remember, track t-shirt orders are due Friday by the end of the day. If you don't have the form that was attached to the Starlites last week, it is also on our Facebook page or you can get another one from the office. Just a reminder to turn in your money for the class auction project; it is $2.00. Also we are singing this Friday in chapel with all our Early Childhood friends! You won't want to miss it. SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed! The AR party was great fun! I'm proud of the children for earning this reward. We've started working on our new goals, so everyone needs to read, read, read! Remember that the children can always read books from home. To check to see if the book is an AR book, Google AR bookfinder or send the book with your child and we can check at school. See the special note attached to this Starlites about the favorite place reports. Let me know if you have questions. Several children need to return signed report cards. Track meet shirt orders are due Friday. The auction will be April 13. Plan to attend to have the opportunity to bid on our class project. Thanks to the Mills family for their hard work on our project. Our school musical will be April 26 in the evening. Save the date. Our school track meet will be May 10. We'd love to have you join us! ITBS Tests will be held the week of April 15-19th. Please get lots of sleep and eat a great breakfast that morning. I would also like for students to receive a letter on their desk that first morning just encouraging them to do well on their test. Please just put the letter in an envelope and get it back to me by April 11th. Also, if I could have 5 parents who would be willing to provide a snack for a day to keep our minds sharp, please let me know. Book Reports: Please be on the lookout for our next book report. I need to know by Friday, April 5th, what person your child wants to do. Book Orders: Due to me on April 10th. FOURTH GRADE - Mrs. Klein: The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia! What a wonderful weekend for celebrating our resurrected Lord! This makes for another short week so we jumped right into some testing on Tuesday morning. We will be very busy during the next couple of weeks as we do preparations for our trip to Rose Hill School. (Several still must turn in $$ and permission slips for the trip.) The students are also quite busy practicing songs for the Spring Musical on April 26. Be sure you have this date set aside on a Friday evening. All students are required to participate, and it is a real treat for the audience. Maybe you will want to bring some friends. You may also want to be purchasing your tickets for the FLS Auction on April 13. This is a wonderful night of fellowship, food, and fun. You will not want to miss it. We praise the Lord for rain. FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Wasn't Easter day gorgeous?! Praise Jesus for the sunshine and rain! Praise God for sending Jesus to be our living Savior! We're working very hard on the musical, which is coming up QUICKLY! The children are doing an awesome job! We have discussed oral state reports. Ask your child about it. Middle School CHEER: Are you in 6th or 7th grade and interested in joining the FLS cheer squad for the 2013-1014 school year? If so, then make plans to attend the mandatory parent informational meeting on Tuesday, 9, at 5:30, in the language room. Attendance at the meeting does not commit a student to try out. A parent permission form has come home with today's Starlites. Please sign and return by April 15. The cheer teaching clinic will be Monday, April 15 Wednesday, April 17, from 3:30-5:00, each day. Mock try-outs are Thursday, April 18 at 3:45, and closed try-outs are Friday, April 19, at 3:45. I hope to see you at the meeting on the 9th! STUCO: Middle school students, are you ready to dance the night away? Then make plans to attend our final dance of the year this Friday, April 5, from 7-9:30. The Spring Dance is open to FLS middle school students only; boys may wear nice jeans, dress shorts, and/or collared shirts; and girls may wear casual dresses. The second semester student council has chosen to support the Humane Society as their philanthropic project so admission to the dance will be a donation to the Humane Society. Dog and cat food, cat litter, Clorox wipes, detergent, towels, leashes, and collars are a few of the items the Humane Society needs. We hope to see you there! MIDDLE SCHOOL AR PARTY: We have 32 students who made their AR goal for the 3rd quarter! Congratulations! We will be rewarding our 100% readers tomorrow at 1:30. We will be meeting in Mrs. Harbeson's room to watch a movie and eat popcorn. (Thanks to Jeff Webster at Take Ten for providing our snack for us!) You may bring a pillow, blanket, and a pop to the movie if you'd like. For those of you who didn't quite make it, you have one more quarter to meet your goal. Mrs. Harbeson: He is risen! What wonderful news! Thank you, Jesus, for loving us so much! I hope you and your family were able to make it to church on Sunday to celebrate Jesus' victory over death, and I also hope you enjoyed your long weekend. We're jumping right into the middle of things this week. All classes will be finishing our poetry unit this Friday. 7th and 8th will a have literary term test on Friday. I will be handing out novels to all classes on Friday, as well. 6th grade is reading The Cay; 7th grade is reading Where the Red Fern Grows; and 8th grade is reading The Giver. In grammar, we are continuing our studies in pronouns (6th), adjectives (7th), and nouns (8th). Blessings on the rest of your week! Ms. Hanson: 7th Grade-If you have not returned your candy bars and money, I need them! I have to turn in the order at the end of the week. I also need Zoo Snooze permission slips, signed and returned with money by April 12. The $50 is not only for admissions but for the lunches and snacks provided as well as helping drivers. Please make payable to FLS. We are still studying Invertebrates and will be for quite some time. 8th Grade- We have finished our chapter on Earthquakes and will be combining this chapter with chapter 9, Volcanoes. These will be tested together. 6th Grade- We are wrapping up our chapter on energy and will be testing sometime next week. Mrs. Ramsey: Welcome back and I hope you all had a blessed Easter weekend. Thanks be to God for this wonderful rain. 6th and 7th grades will be working on more geometry, while pre-algebra students will be starting polynomial operations. The algebra class has a test on chapter 9 this Friday. Don't forget the middle school dance this Friday evening...the last of the year. Great job, 7th graders selling candy bars! In His service... Mr. Watters: I hope everyone had a great Easter holiday. For me it was mentally and physically rewarding, but more important was the spiritual rewards I experienced. We must never forget at Christmas and Easter that Jesus is the celebration. Academics- 8th grade will have a test on Thursday over chapters 24/25, and sixth grade will have an exam on Friday over chapters 28/29. Seventh grade has no test scheduled this week. Athletics- We will have a winter sports banquet for our cheerleaders and basketball players on Thursday evening at 6:30. I hope everyone will be able to attend as we honor and reflect back on the past season. The weather and holidays have impeded our track progress; however we will go to our first meet on Tuesday of next week. This is a middle school track meet only. I am trying to arrange a track meet for our 5th and 6th graders, and will let you know something next week. Lord, thank you for the rain, now let's watch the grass turn green.
