a1. SMART Training: Embedding Interactivity Into Your SMART Notebook (K-12)

B3. Leveraging Google Forms & Spreadsheets in an Educational Setting (K-12)

Participants will learn various ways to embed inter-activity within their SMART Notebook™ Lessons to offer more opportunities for student interaction with the Notebook lesson. Some of these techniques will include utilizing interactive 3rd Party Internet Resources, Gallery and SMART Exchange Items, Activity Builder, animation, sound, and video. Participants should bring a lesson that they would like to modify or create.

Impress your friends, family and colleagues with your new skills in organizing, analyzing and communicating data and information. Learn to collect information with Google Forms and effectively dissect that information to solve problems and answer questions quickly with Google Spreadsheets. These tools are web-based and capable of supporting collaboration between users working together. Google Spreadsheets and Forms are exciting tools to use with students in the classroom, as well as between colleagues, to support professional duties outside of the classroom.

A2. Becoming a connected Educator: Interactive Field trips in the classroom (K-12)

Join us to learn how to incorporate interactive video conferencing into your curriculum. This session will provide participants with the knowledge to research topics within their content area in order to bring the world to their students. Participants will conduct hands-on research, participate in live interactive demonstrations and collaborate with peers to create classroom to classroom projects.

You’ve been using your Gmail and perhaps a little bit of Google Calendar, but now what? This session will show you the power of Google Apps. Learn tips, tricks, extras, and customization you can add to your Gmail and Calendar. We’ll take a look at Google Sites and Forms, how these additional Google products work with Gmail, Calendar and each other and how they will make your digital life more efficient.

B2. Project Based Learning in the 21st Century (6-12) Nick Bakke & Caleb Hundt, Cashton School District

This workshop is designed to take projects you complete in your classroom and get them spinning with 21st century technology. You will learn practical ways to use Google Apps for Education in designing and implementing assessments, benchmarks, communication, and research notes. Web2.0 tools such as Diigo, Awesome Screen Shot and Chrome Extensions will make your life easier and students go WOW! Participants will explore Google Advanced Search and digital storytelling.

B4. Travel the World of Literature with Google Lit Trips (6-12)

Heather Palmer, Edina Public Schools

Catch a glimpse of how Google Earth and primary sources combine to bring literature to life! Google Lit Trips are an innovative way to contextualize novels set in a different time period or setting, promote critical thinking skills and bring authenticity to the reading experience. During this two-day, hands-on workshop, you will be introduced to techniques for analyzing primary sources, searching the Library of Congress digital archives and navigating Google Earth. These tools will be the basis for the Google Lit Trip you will create for a text of your choice. Contextualize and authenticate the reading experience!

This course will familiarize participants with the numerous apps available to them and will demonstrate how these apps can help you effectively communicate with your students.

B6. online Teacher training (K-12) Greg Stager, CESA#11 Consultant

Teachers will have an opportunity to explore online learning course navigation, features and organization. Participants will communicate in both synchronous and asynchronous formats, learn how to encourage active participation and collaboration, practice facilitating conversations and provide effective feedback. NOTE: This session runs from 7/29/13 - 8/23/13. The initial meeting will be Monday, July 29, all other time will be spent online. Completion of this session meets the Wisconsin DPI requirement of 30 hours professional development in the area of online teaching and learning.

Discover how to create professional, interactive and sharable SMART Notebook™ software lesson activities. This session is designed for educators who have experience with SMART products and are enthusiastic about designing digital content using SMART Notebook™ software to increase student engagement and participation. You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your ability to use SMART products in your classroom and create content that you can share with other educators.

Spotlight Session: F2. Flipped Learning Kristin Daniels, Flipped Learning Network Board Member, has been a Technology Integration Specialist for the Stillwater (MN) Area Public Schools since 2011. She has a B.A in Psychology from Northwestern University and a M.Ed in Elementary Education from DePaul University. Before Stillwater, she worked for ISTE affiliate, Technology and Information Educational Services (TIES), in St. Paul, MN as an Education Technology Specialist. Currently she supports Flipped Classroom teachers and is implementing FlippedPD in Stillwater elementary schools. Kristin has been “flipping” professional development for her client teachers by providing digital resources and working with schools to create job-embedded, coaching opportunities during the school day.

C5. Mobile Learning Devices: Empower Students to Take Ownership in Their Learning (6-12)

This session will focus on using cell phones and tablets as instructional technology tools to research, gather/submit data and share/collaborate information. Teachers will develop strategies to harness the power of using mobile devices in the classroom. Resources shared will apply to regular cell phones with texting capabilities as well as smart phones.

d2. Tech Tools for Teachers (K-12)

Cate Willers, Mahtomedi Public Schools

This session is designed to introduce the basics of a plethora of popular emerging topics in education. Themes will include useful tools for lesson planning and promoting social learning in your classroom. Technology tools include: Edmodo, Pinterest, Screencast-o-matic, Google documents, using QR codes in the classroom, Quizlet, Ted-Ed, and Audacity. After attending this session you can expect to have a basic understanding of how you can begin to integrate these tools into your own classroom.

D3. Core Curriculum Development - ELA (K-12)

As teachers begin to implement common core standards it is important to embed strategies to integrate the literacy strands (reading, writing, speaking/listening, and language) in English Language Arts. The focus of this workshop is applying literacy strategies as a tool to access academic content, implementing structures for the successful integration of literacy strands and analyzing the impact of text complexity. Participants will investigate strategies in best practices and explore tools/ resources to integrate the literacy strands.

Best practice in the primary classroom involves creating an environment that suits young learners. Participants of this workshop will investigate ways to integrate, through teaching and instruction, research-based strategies responsive to the needs of their students.

The research of Robert Marzano, Debra Pickering and Jane Pollock has focused on the mental processes that students can use to restructure and understand information. These instructional strategies can provide direction for classroom instruction and call attention to the needs of “student engagement” and practices that work in the mathematics classroom! You will design your lessons using the Standards of Math Practice along with the CCSS Targets.

f2. flipped Learning (K-12)

Participants will utilize collaborative documents, networking tools and a participant back channel throughout the two-day workshop. In addition, we will talk about personal learning network opportunities throughout the workshop, as Flipped Learning demands an active network of support. This is not the traditional “sit & get” event, so come ready to dive right into the discussions, help create the agenda and share your stories.

Music is a very powerful tool to help students learn. There are many ways to use music to increase student achievement and understanding. Participants will incorporate music software applications that apply to all kinds of classrooms.
