the model activities or not, the interviewer gave them a short explanation and showed them screenshots of the two examples.182 When no further questions had arisen or interviewees preferred to comment directly on the model activities, the interviewer started the interview according to guidelines. Audio recordings of all interviews were made, which were subsequently transcribed.183

3.2 Interview findings In the following, the findings of the interviews on the subtopics of the interview will be summarised briefly. The last part of this chapter (3.3) will offer a deeper analysis of the opportunities and challenges that the representatives of heritage institutions and teachers associated with a contextualisation activity that secondary school students conduct on the Web.

3.2.1 Interviews with the representatives of the six heritage institutions Degree of digitisation All six institutions have started to digitise their collections. The degree to which they have accomplished a digitisation of their collections varies greatly, however: while the museums have digitised between fifty (Museon) and one hundred percent (Museum Boerhaave) of their collections, the archives in the sample, which preserve 40 (Stadsarchief Amsterdam), respectively 110 kilometres (Nationaal Archief) of archival documents, could only digitise percentages lower than five so far (4.3 percent for Stadsarchief Amsterdam and less than one percent for Nationaal Archief, with a significantly higher percentage for photographies). The percentage of digitised objects that are made available on the Web is usually slightly lower than that of objects digitised in total, often due to copyright issues. Museon only makes digital objects from their collections available online for specific purposes, for example within particular educational tasks they offer on their Web site.
