Getting started Your Teesside University student account:

Teesside University Smart Card (TUSC) Your TUSC and Personal Identification Number (PIN) allow you to: > borrow and renew books > access University buildings including the Library during self-service hours > use the campus-wide MyPrint system > pay for food and drink in University catering outlets.

ICT username and password Your ICT username and password enable you to: > log in to PCs on campus > access to electronic resources off campus > access your student email account. Please check your University email account regularly as this is where any University correspondence will be sent.

Printing and photocopying (MyPrint) in the Library The Library has integrated printing and photocopying machines offering A4 and A3 print and a free scan to email facility as long as your account is in credit. To register your TUSC for use go to http://myprint.tees.ac.uk


Subject help and information: The Learning Hub and Information Desk staff will assist with subject enquiries (e.g. finding appropriate print and electronic resources) and provide help with academic skills (e.g. referencing, writing and critical thinking). For details of the academic librarians available to support you, see the LibGuide for your subject at http://tees.libguides.com/

The Catalogue > The Catalogue will help you find what the Library has in stock and where it is located http://lis.tees.ac.uk/catalogue > using your borrower number (on your TUSC) and PIN, you can also use the Catalogue to check your Library account. Please refer to http://lis.tees.ac.uk/fines for our policy on fines.

TeesRep – Teesside University Research Collection TeesRep gives you access to a growing collection of peerreviewed research and e-theses produced by Teesside University researchers. For further information see tees.ac.uk/teesrep

Finding resources and using the Library


Borrow, return and renew Borrowing books You can borrow items using the selfservice machines on the ground floor of the Library. You will need your TUSC and PIN.

Returning books Please return your books by using the self-service machines on the ground floor or by post (you should obtain proof of posting).

Renewals Using your TUSC and PIN, you can renew loans in person, online or by telephone.

Reservations If all copies of a book are on loan you can reserve it via the Catalogue. You will need your TUSC and PIN.


Our research shows that students who achieve the highest grades are those who use library resources the most. Our team of academic librarians and Learning Hub staff work closely with your tutors to ensure that you develop the skills you need to succeed.

Help yourself to succeed by: > visiting the Learning Hub (ground floor) and the Information Desk (floor 2) for help with referencing, literature searching and referral for additional academic skills support (including maths) > attending timetabled sessions to help you develop your skills in literature searching > attending Succeed@Tees workshops on topics such as referencing, finding information and writing essays – see http://tees.libguides.com/workshops > using your subject-specific LibGuide (available online at http://tees.libguides.com) to find information about academic resources such as ebooks and journals that are immediately available to you > developing your study skills using the material available from the Learning Hub website at http://dissc.tees.ac.uk

Study Spaces The Library has PCs on all floors and is zoned to suit a variety of study needs including: > Silent Zone – for individual study and research (Floor 3) > Quiet Study – if you need to study on your own but need to confer occasionally (Floor 2) > Quiet Group Discussion – for discussion and collaborative learning (Floor 1) > Social Learning – for informal study and networking (Ground) > The Corner – for postgraduate/research students (located next to the entrance of the Students’ Union) Food and drink policy varies on each floor so please refer to Library Policy Statements available at http://lis.tees.ac.uk/ regulations/Library_Policy_Statements_May_2013.pdf

Group working areas These areas can be booked online http://tees.libcal.com/ booking/grouprooms or via the iZone on the ground floor.

Touchdown The PCs located on the ground floor are available for 20 minutes to allow quick access to University services e.g. printing and email.
