EDITORIAL Dear LIQUI MOLY friends, What – you mean it's all over and done with? 2016 has come to an end? Wow – what speed, what a year, what a performance! With a sizable sales increase of 11 % over the previous year, we have shown once again just what amazing feats we’re capable of – the power, energy and passion that our unique LIQUI MOLY spirit generates day in, day out. Last year’s sales clock didn’t stop ticking until it reached EUR 489,136,000. Hats off! Trouble spots all over the world, rising oil prices, an increasingly expensive dollar, dramatically plummeting currencies in many countries … and yet we’ve still been so successful. How can this be true of a company that operates internationally like ours, even though the general environment would suggest a very different outcome? The answer is that we face up to these challenges with top quality and service, effective technical solutions and personal consultation on the one hand, while on the other hand maintaining values such as respect, decency and a sense of responsibility. But there’s another vital component in our LIQUI MOLY family worldwide, too: the individual – and that means will power, inventiveness, passion and ability. After all, success and failure have nothing to do with difficult conditions and complicated markets. They depend on us alone – our attitude, our fighting spirit, our creativity. We – just under 800 employees along with all our customers, friends and business partners – are the ones who make the difference. Together we are making things possible that seemed impossible, transforming bleak forecasts into bright future prospects. If we continue to show such powerful growth and pursue our strategy with a keen eye, there’s nothing to stop us continuing to flourish in the New Year. After all, there are huge countries waiting for us – with enormous numbers of road vehicles. And thousands of new registrations are added on a daily basis. For 2017 alone the forecast is nearly 80 million newly registered private cars worldwide – not including other vehicles and machines. Then there are the many megacities all around the globe: here, short trips, stop-and-go traffic and road congestion are putting enormous strain on engines – a phenomenon that simply cries out for our solutions and causes garages to spring up like mushrooms. This is a huge opportunity for our full product range, our top-class quality – our brand. So let’s not get too carried away with looking back at last year’s achievements: instead let’s focus on maintaining at least the same level of enthusiasm and spirit so as to turn the next 365 days into the most exciting and successful period in the history of our company. Mercedes Benz Arena Berlin on 9.12.2016: a spectacle entirely immersed in our blue, red and white colors! Since we are the premium partner of German first division ice hockey team Eisbären Berlin, the LIQUI MOLY Game Day was an opportunity for us to display our full brand presence – with our logo in the center circle of the pitch and with a fire show featuring our blue barrels – which aroused huge enthusiasm for our brand among the just under 14,000 spectators in the hall. LIQUI MOLY was present both inside and out14

side the hall with numerous activities: whether the instant photo shoot in front of the LIQUI MOLY wall or the wheel of fortune in the foyer – customers and fans were all winners on this day. Bruno helps … … with a great shirt auction: Bruno Gervais (fullback with the Eisbären Berlin ice hockey team) did some highly successful fundraising for a good cause with original shirts and celebrity support.

What an evening! At the match against the Fischtown Penguins from Bremerhaven, seven unique signed shirts belonging to famous hockey players were auctioned to Eisbären Berlin fans. With shirts belonging to Bruno Gervais himself or one of the big stars of the professional North American league NHL, there was a diverse and colorful range to choose from. This activity was designed to support the charity organization Verein Straßenkinder e.V. , WHICH IS SPONSORED BY THE ERNST PROST FOUNDATION. Foundation Manager Kerstin Thiele and our well-known friend and ambassador Axel Schulz were in attendance to demonstrate their support too, LIQUI MOLY I MEGUIN I 01 I 2017

Reaching out to others in the festive season: on Christmas Eve, members of the trucker club Franken-Strolche e. V. went to various truck stops in Upper Franconia with our LIQUI MOLY branded partner truck to present a small Christmas gift bag to truck drivers who were unable to make it home for Christmas. With its successful blend of a “global brand with German roots” and elements of Chinese culture, our trade show stand was highly popular among international guests. It also won an award as the best stand. And while the stand design attracted high numbers of visitors, highly motivated sales personnel turned this into measurable success with their active customer consultation. Our clearly structured full product range was a door-opener to customers’ hearts and minds, enhanced by eye-catching advertising messages projected onto an XXL video screen, the “best brand” overview and the large-format “Made in Germany” logo.

Good prospects Down Under We have now managed to attract another prestigious LIQUI MOLY customer – the Australian wholesaler HSY. We once again conveyed the LIQUI MOLY spirit at six evening events held in each of Australia’s main conurbations (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth) in collaboration with our friends at MotorActive. Talks were given on the positive development of the Australian vehicle market and the potential for independent workshops was explained. The LIQUI MOLY workshop concept “EuroMechanika” went down especially well among visitors: a network of high-quality workshops specializing in European cars is to be continuously expanded under the LIQUI MOLY flag.

Yesterday 70 interested seminar participants – today 70 molyfied users and multipliers. In Mostar and Derventa we offered both theoretical training and practical demonstrations that proved hugely popular. The program included the basics of oils and additives as well as advice on how to make motorists happy with LIQUI MOLY while earning money at the same time. In the garages we presented Gear Tronic, air conditioning cleaning, air intake system cleaning, DPF cleaning, headlamp repair and windscreen repair.

Damit auch die eigene Produktion reibungslos funktioniert und das starke Wachstum bewältigt werden kann, investierte die 100-prozentige Tochter der in Ulm ansässigen Liqui Moly GmbH, in den letzten fünf Jahren mehr als 35 Mio. Euro. Nach der Erweiterung der Tanklager ist die größte Neuerung die Erweiterung der Produktionskapazität im Jahr 2016. Innovative Technologie sorgt für optimierte Arbeitsabläufe und ermöglicht die Abfüllung von 250 ml-Kleingebinden bis hin zu 205 l-Großgebinden. Teil eines im Jahr 2013 erstellten Konzeptpapiers war das Projekt „End of line“. Danach soll die gesamte Produktion so ausgelegt werden, dass im Zweischicht-Betrieb in fünf Tagen 120.000 Jahrestonnen abgefüllt werden können. Derzeit werden ca. 20

und Abfüllung. Das haben wir jetzt zentral in eine Halle und den Produktionsfluss in eine Richtung gebracht“, erklärt Christian Texter, Leiter der Produktion bei Meguin.

„Optimaler partner“ Bisher läuft die gesamte Endverpackung und Palettierung von 4000 Artikeln und 26 verschiedenen Formaten händisch ab. Dieser Prozess ist neben Nachteilen in der Produktivität auch mit einer höheren körperlichen Belastung der Mitarbeiter verbunden, immerhin gilt es, Behältnisse von der 0,5-LiterFlasche bis zum 25-Liter-Kanister in Kartons bei einer Raumhöhe von 3,90 m auf 2,30 m zu stapeln. Das Projektziel war, sechs verschiedene Produktionslinien mit möglichst ge-

ringem Platzbedarf in einem bestehenden Gebäude zu automatisieren. Dazu gehören auch eine vollautomatische Verpackungsanlage und Palettierung. Dabei waren bestehende Anlagen mit einzubinden. Nicht zuletzt stand eine vollständige Anbindung an das ERP-System auf der To-Do-Liste. Nach einer längeren Planungsphase, mehreren Anlagenbesichtigungen und einer Ausschreibung ging der Auftrag an die PCA Roboter- und Verpackungstechnik GmbH, die sich „mit ihren Ideen und ihrem PreisLeistungsverhältnis für uns als der optimale Partner erwiesen hat“, so der Meguin-Produktionsleiter. „Unser Ziel war, dem Kunden eine vollautomatische Verpackungs- und Palettieranlage zu liefern, bei der er nicht auf die gewohnte Flexibilität verzichten muss und trotzdem alle Vorteile modernster Verpackungstechnik hat“, erklärte Dieter Hübner, Geschäftsführender Gesellschafter der PCA Roboter- und Verpackungstechnik GmbH. Dabei standen vor allem schnelle Umstellzeiten der Formate innerhalb weniger Minuten im Vordergrund, aber auch die Möglichkeit, kleine Chargen auf der Anlage zu fahren. Mit einer leistungsfähigen Konstruktionsabteilung und Softwareentwicklung ist das mittelfränkische Unternehmen mit Sitz in Leutershausen bei Ansbach in der Lage, auch individuelle Sonderlösungen zu liefern. „Wir kennen den Umgang mit Losgröße 1

Der Erfolg schlägt sich dabei in einem rasanten Unternehmenswachstum nieder, allein in den letzten sieben Jahren hat sich die Mitarbeiterzahl mehr als verdoppelt. Der große Vorteil: Die hohe Zahl der Gleichteile führt zu deutlichen Einsparungen in der Ersatzteilhaltung. Auch im After Sales Service kann sich der Kunde auf einen Ansprechpartner verlassen. Zudem verfügt er über eine durchgängige Dokumentation. Und: Eine übergeordnete Steuerung über der gesamten Anlage sorgt für die nötige Transparenz und Prozesssicherheit. Die sehr hohe Fertigungstiefe von PCA drückt sich auch darin aus, dass vom Rohmaterial in der Zerspanung über den Schaltschrankbau und die Softwareentwicklung bis zur kompletten Produkt- und PalettenFördertechnik, die das Bindeglied für die einzelnen Anlagen bildet, alles aus dem eigenen Haus kommt. Nach Abschluss der Konstruktion und Design Review mit dem Kunden geht es in die Fertigung. In der 7000 m² großen Montagehalle werden dann alle Anlagen eins zu eins aufgebaut und in Betrieb genommen. „Damit haben wir die Möglich-

keit, jede Anlage komplett bis zur Produktionsreife auszutesten“, so Dieter Hübner. Die Verpackungsanlage für Meguin ist mit insgesamt 102 Stellantrieben der Halstrup-Walcher GmbH, Kirchzarten, für die automatische Umstellung der Maschine ausgerüstet. Hinzu kommen ca. 80 Servomotoren der Schneider Electric Automation GmbH, Marktheidenfeld, die den kompletten Verpackungsprozess steuern. Insgesamt können, je nach Format, bis zu 21.600 Gebinde in der Stunde verpackt werden. Auf den Paletten, bei denen von der Europalette über die Düsseldorfer Palette bis zur Industriepalette ohnehin die gängigen Varianten zum Einsatz kommen, finden sich 68 verschiedene Lagengrößen. Ein sehr großes Formatspektrum, das die Maschine bewältigen muss. Dafür war die neueste Steuerungsgeneration in Form der Simatic S7-1500 für die Peripherie von Siemens erforderlich. Die Anlage komplettieren fünf Kuka-Palettierroboter, drei Palettenwickler sowie sechs Kartonetikettierer und zwei Palettenetikettierer, davon einer im Außenbereich, der Firma Bluhm. Einen besonderen Clou hat PCA mit dem Lagenbildgenerator entwickelt: Bei „UniPal“ handelt es sich um eine automatische Palettiersoftware, mit deren Hilfe sich der Kunde nur anhand der Kartonabmessungen ein Lagenbild aussuchen und dieses direkt an die Steuerung bzw. den Roboter schicken kann. Auch die Kombipacker wurden so programmiert und gebaut, dass nur durch Eingabe der Kartonformate und der Gebindegröße automatisch ein neues Programm erstellt wird. „Dadurch sind wir unheimlich schnell und schaffen einen Komplett-Um-

rüstvorgang von unserer Abfülllinie einschließlich Case-Packer innerhalb einer Viertelstunde“, freut sich der Produktionsleiter Christian Texter. Immerhin finden bei Meguin täglich drei große Formatwechsel an einer Linie statt. Eine große Herausforderung für die Anlagenplaner waren die beengten Raumverhältnisse. Auch dafür war eine Sonderkonstruktion der Maschine erforderlich. So befindet sich das Magazin für die Kartonzuschnitte üblicherweise links oder rechts an der Maschine. „Für diesen Fall haben wir speziell ein In-Line-Kartonmagazin in Förderrichtung entwickelt, sodass die Laufwege für die Mitarbeiter frei bleiben“, erläutert Martin Reu, PCA-Projektleiter und stellv. Vertriebsleiter.

umrüsten in nur 15 Min. Dieses enge Raumangebot stellte hohe Anforderungen an die Sicherheitstechnik und die Bereichsabgrenzung. Hier hat PCA auf die erprobte Technik des Marktführers Sick, Waldkirch, vertraut. Die Sick AG lieferte die gesamte optische Sensorik einschließlich der Kamerasysteme und Barcodelesegeräte zur Rückverfolgbarkeit der Produkte. Die Leitrechneranbindung, eine zentrale Auftragssteuerung und -verwaltung sind weitere Bausteine, die die Anlage fit für die Zukunft gemacht haben. Mit diesem Automatisierungsprojekt ist Meguin nicht nur in der Lage, deutliche Produktivitätsgewinne zu erzielen, sondern auch zahlreiche Arbeitsplätze aufzuwerten oder umzugruppieren. Gillanders fulfilling her dream of maintaining high-end cars

t’s been just over two years since Province readers were introduced to Leah Gillanders, then a master technician at Brian Jessel BMW. In two days, she’ll be celebrating the first-year anniversary of her very own auto shop, fittingly called Leah’s Automotive. “Having my own shop has been at the back of my mind for years,” she admitted recently in the front office of her North Vancouver shop. “I still can’t believe it’s been a year already.” She didn’t mention this secret dream when we interviewed her for a September 2014 Women at the Wheel profile, but her lead quote in

Andrew McCredie that story certainly foretold it. “I want to be able to do things for myself. I don’t want to have to rely on someone else to fix it.” She says her eight years at Jessel

were invaluable, both in what she learned about working on cars and also on how to run a business. That said, her first year in operation has been an eye-opener. “I guess the most surprising thing is all the government paperwork that needs to be filled out and sent it,” she says with a smile. She still turns wrenches, though has hired a master mechanic who worked on Alfa Romeos and other European models at the shop under previous ownership. The focus of Leah’s Automotive is, not surprisingly given her background, on higher-end luxury cars, but on any given day the lifts in the shop can be holding up Chevys, Toy-

otas and Fords. Those lifts are also from previous ownership, though she has bought some state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to be able to work on later year models. And she’s particularly fond of the tire machine she recently bought. “Isn’t it cool?” the BCIT grad asks rhetorically on the multi-armed machine that makes taking low-profile tires off big rims as easy as pushing a floor pedal. “I just love it!” Leah has also carried over from her time at Jessel a successful seminar series she created with the dealership called Ladies Tech Days. Essentially, they were informal nights where women could learn the basics

of their vehicle’s working parts and also how to do some simple maintenance. And she’s not letting the first anniversary of her shop pass quietly, either. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, she’s throwing the shop bay door open for an open house, with door prizes, shop specials and snacks and refreshments for customers and well-wishers. Interestingly, and indicating there are more dreams to be realized by Leah, the full name of her shop is ‘Leah’s Automotive and Nail Spa.’ Asked about it, she just smiles and says, “You’ll have to wait and see.” amccredie@postmedia.com

Основная тенденция технического прогресса в области автомобильных двигателей – это, во-первых, снижение расхода топлива и, во-вторых, уменьшение вредных выбросов. Для снижения расхода топлива требуется снизить внутреннее трение в двигателе, особенно в цилиндро-поршневой группе, для чего конструкторы уменьшают высоту колец, высоту поршней, толщину вкладышей. А для снижения вредных выбросов применяются более эффективные катализаторы и сажевые фильтры. В результате перед разработчиками моторных масел стоит непростая задача защитить двигатель от износа в условиях возросших в несколько раз тепловых и механических нагрузок на детали и одновременно добиться совместимости пакета присадок с системами выхлопа. Дело в том, что традиционный антифрикционный компонент пакета присадок – ZZDP (диалкилтиофосфат цинка) – крайне негативно воздействует на катализаторы, а подобрать ему альтернативу довольно непросто.

ОТ МОЛИБДЕНА... Тем не менее компания LIQUIMOLY справилась с этим вызовом, разработав семейство моторных масел Molygen, в которых основную антифрикционную роль играли органические соединения молибдена. Однако для дальнейшего повышения эффективности одного только молибдена было недостаточно, и химики компании стали изучать возможность использования соединений вольфрама. Результатом пятилетних исследований, разработок и испытаний стала технология, получившая название MFC (Molecular Friction Control, «молекулярный контроль трения»). Эта технология подразумевает внедрение ионов вольфрама и молибдена в поверхностный

слой металла с образованием чрезвычайно твердых карбидов. В результате на поверхностях трения выравниваются микронеровности и образуется твердый упрочненный слой толщиной в несколько микрометров, сохраняющийся довольно долго (до 50 000 км пробега). Коэффициент трения на таких поверхностях уменьшается в среднем на 30%, аналогично снижается и износ. На основе технологии MFC создано семейство моторных масел Molygen NG с вязкостями от 5W-20 до 10W-40.

...К ЧИСТОМУ ВОЛЬФРАМУ Следующий шаг в развитии технологии MFC – это использование не комплекса соединений вольфрама и молибдена, а соединений только одного вольфрама. Такой подход, согласно исследованиям компании LIQUIMOLY, позволяет уменьшить количество металла в пакете присадок, не уменьшая эффективности защиты деталей двигателя. Преимуществами модифицированной технологии MFC могут воспользоваться не только те автовладельцы, которые заливают в моторы своих машин масло Molygen NG: для этого LIQUIMOLY представила отдельную присадку Molygen Motor Protect, созданную на основе соединений только вольфрама и совместимую с моторными маслами любых типов и производителей (как минеральными, так и синтетическими), а также с любыми двигателями (в том числе турбированными) и системами с каталитическими нейтрализаторами и сажевым фильтром (DPF). Molygen Motor Protect не только уменьшает трение и износ, но и поддерживает чистоту двигателя, а также продлевает срок службы самого масла за счет снижения температуры в зонах трения и уменьшения его окисления (действие присадки сохраняется на протяжении примерно 50 000 км пробега).

Новая разработка компании LIQUIMOLY – присадка на основе соединений вольфрама Molygen Motor Protect, совместимая с моторными маслами любых типов и производителей. Благодаря технологии MFC присадка обеспечивает уменьшение расхода топлива и шумности работы двигателя, поддерживает чистоту деталей трения и увеличивает ресурс двигателя, сокращая количество внеплановых поломок.
