CHESS SET

d on the ground? Who says that chess needs to be played on a flat boar Play chess in a different way. Play it vertically.

2

THE WAYS OF PLAYING I was inspired by the idea of playing a board game vertically on both sides. Different ways of playing chess were explored.

3

THE CHESS SET From the left to right: king, queen, bishop, knight, rook, and pawn. The sides are tapered with a continuous radius through the fillets, making the form look united and elegant.

4

THE CHESS BOARD The board can be taken apart. It is portable and easy to re-assemble.

5

RAM MASK

The mask is composed of a single Bristol board template and uses no adhesi ve. With simple shapes and textures, the ram is depicted in an extremely geome tric form.

6

PROCESS SKETCHES I began by sketching rams from memory in order to capture obvious features. I then studied photos of rams to understand the structure of their basic appearance. Finally, I simplified their appearance into a simple geometric form.

PROBLEMS

HYGIENIC EFFECTS Hygiene benefits are significantly increased by embedding a brush into the soap to clean fingernails as well

I interviewed three auto mechanics: two gas turbine engine operators and one mechanic working to convert gasoline-burning cars into electric-powered cars. I obtained

CONVENIENT FUNCTION User is able to hang the soap on the water faucet to provide easy access and storage. This also helps to keep the sink and coun-

SOLUTION

ter tops clean.

SENSITIVE SKIN

HEALING POWER Medicinal herbs may be added into the soap to increase the healing rate of small cuts on the hands. 10

IDEATION SKETCHES Why is it necessary to embed a brush into a bar of soap? The two items work just fine separately. However, by adding a brush structure into the soap, the user can decrease the time necessary to clean the hands. The user is also able to hang the soap on the water faucet to increase convenience and keep the sink surface and counter tops clean.

11

THE HANGING STRUCTURE The product is hung on the faucet while the structure allows the soap bar to slowly shrink over time and use without falling off.

12

DISPLAY The packaging is designed for display in a typical hardware store. In order to illustrate to the customers how the product is used, the product is displayed in the store by hanging it on a peg.

13

DRINKING WATER DEVELOPMENT

This is a project where students worked to improve the drinking water situation in Gujarat, India.

14

DRINKING WATER Our team of four students researched methods to remove fluoride from drinking water. The team designed, constructed, and tested several water purification prototypes to determine the effectiveness of each method. In the end, we proposed several ways to remove fluoride from the water tank level.

SKETCHES + RENDERINGS 16

WATCH SKETCHES + RENDERING All sketches were drawn in ball-point pen. The rendering was finished in Adobe Photoshop CS4 using a track pad.

17

SHOE SKETCHES + RENDERING The sketches were drawn in ball-point pen and sharpies. The poster was based off the sketches and was finished in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
