Growing For The Future (G4F) - Thornes Park Nursery Who We Are The Nursery stood neglected for over five years until Groundwork Wakefield was invited to manage the site on behalf of the G4F Partnership in 2009. To do this, funding and support was secured from Wakefield Council and NHS Wakefield District and we now employ a committed team to develop and run the enterprise. Our Long Term Vision is “To be a successful and sustainable social enterprise where vulnerable people are trained to grow and sell produce to the local community and through this to become a centre of excellence for the Wakefield District.” In achieving the vision we are working with partners to support the regeneration and restoration of the Thornes Nursery. In addition we are aiming to provide a lasting legacy for the District’s residents through the development of an educational centre. What We Do The garden is in the process of being developed and we are now growing local produce, including a variety of products from herbs, plants, shrubs and bedding plants alongside our seasonal vegetables. All of these are offered for sale in addition to hanging baskets, planters and much more. As well as growing local produce, G4F is working towards establishing the Thornes Park Nursery as an educational centre of excellence, allowing individuals of all abilities the opportunity to develop both social and vocational skills through gardening activities and retail. We also provide volunteering opportunities for both individuals and companies wishing to give something back to the local community. How You Can Help We are always looking for individuals, local businesses or community groups who would like to support G4F in whatever way possible. This may be by recommending us to others, sponsoring an activity, volunteering or some way we have not even thought of! So, if you feel you may be able to help please contact us at the address below. We would be delighted to hear from you. Please would you provide us with constructive feedback about our produce, service and site? Tell us what we do well? What we could improve on? What you would like to see grown? Your comments are truly valuable and will help G4F become sustainable.
