FORGET THE FORMER THINGS; DO NOT DWELL ON THE PAST.
See, I am doing
A NEW THING! [ISAIAH 43:18-19]
NOW IT SPRINGS UP; DO YOU NOT PERCEIVE IT?
I am making a way in the
WILDERNESS STREAMS IN THE WASTELAND.
CELEBRATION & INSPIRATION God tells Isaiah in Isaiah 43, that He is about to do something new, but He also reminds him of just how faithful and good He has already been. He reminds them that He made a way through the wilderness. As we come to the end of 2019, we celebrate a year in which we have seen the faithfulness of God, as we have stepped out to confront poverty and create potential. With teams going out directly from Links and others that we have facilitated for churches and organisations, we have seen so many ordinary radicals roll their sleeves up and get their hands dirty, genuinely engaging with the needs around the world. Links has had the privilege of providing healthcare and business and leadership training to communities in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. We have seen creative income-generating projects initiated and inputted into the strategic direction of organisations and church networks around the globe. We celebrate what has been an amazing year!
As we begin to step into 2020, it is with huge excitement and expectation. “Forget the former things”, God says. It is as if He moves on to say, “Remember what I did, but now forget how I did it, because what I am about to do is going to go beyond your expectations!” In Links we believe that our greatest days are still ahead of us. There is a charge to keep, a Kingdom to advance and injustices to confront. We believe that God is raising up His Church around the world to take up the challenge to go and to create a new world in the shell of the old. So, as we wave goodbye to 2019, thank you for joining with us. Let’s celebrate together all that our amazing God has done, but then let’s also lift up our heads, look up and see the new as we step into 2020, a new year in which we will see God go beyond all we could ask or think. Could this be the year that you take that step of faith and visit the nation God has always placed on your heart, that you invest in the Kingdom or see that project initiated? How will you change the world? We want to come alongside you in 2020 and walk with you into the dream that God has given you.

Earlier this year we were able to train church planters, micro-entrepreneurs and a team of community healthcare workers in the rural Northeast of India. Often these leaders face extreme opposition, limited funds and very difficult circumstances and living conditions. Community healthcare training is a much-needed aspect of our trips to India. Our CHC Team does an incredible job of facilitating these trainings for local villagers while leadership training is taking place to empower them even further with poverty-confronting initiatives. In between all of the trainings we shared time with some of our partners there, catching up on various projects that have been funded through Links donors and hearing about future community development plans. “It is such an honour to be able to come alongside our partners in India and to be a small part of what they are doing every day.” JOE GISBEY, CEO
MALAWI It is clear that the work in Malawi has grown considerably over the last few years and many of the connections are now strong partnerships. As they have become areas of such focus, it was very important for us to be able to connect face-to-face with some of these contacts to both observe the great work that they are doing, and also to reassure them that Links will continue to stand with them in partnership following the transition of leadership, and continue to find strategic ways to better serve them. We were also able to 08 linksinternational.org.uk
see the irrigation project that Links has invested into. As it presently stands, it is approximately 60% completed. “It was a privilege and honour to serve alongside the Hope Missions Team we went to teach and train, but came away having benefitted from learning so much, particularly about honour and generosity.” MATT BELL
NICARAGUA In 2018, we were saddened as we were not able to travel to our friends in Nicaragua due to civil unrest in the country. In 2019, we re-engaged and made three trips there. Our work there is mostly focused on Leadership and Micro-business development, but we also serve with The Hope Project in their nutrition and education programs. They are an amazing resource for teams we take to encounter a holistic view of mission. They are doing amazing Kingdom work every day and we get to come alongside and help ‘lift their arms up’ (Exodus 17:12). “For my first mission trip, it was exciting to see how the Kingdom of God is working in places and ways I had not seen before. My trip to Nicaragua was definitely one I will never forget.” JACOB BOLLINGER
LEBANON Arun Church in Littlehampton was able to travel to Lebanon to work with some of our partners, reaching out to both Iraqi and Syrian refugee communities living in both Beirut and the various camps in the Beqaa Valley, dotted along the border with Syria. The team comprised all ages and backgrounds, coming together to confront poverty and create potential with the heroes out on the ground making a difference, day in and day out, in these communities. Together they got involved in programs for the children, practical work around the community centre, prayer and prophetic ministry, teaching in the refugee camps and showing the love of Jesus to everyone they met.
Wayuu people. We are now excited and hopeful going forward that the micro-enterprise committee will begin to see many people break free from the stronghold of poverty and begin to prosper affecting the future of their families and communities. All this is only possible because of the support of our amazing Links family. “It has been such a privilege over the years to visit year after year and see churches and partners in Colombia established and flourishing, schools becoming viable and sustainable in the region, clean water projects and agriculture ensuring better basic health.”

COLOMBIA This past summer we were able to make another trip to Colombia. Following past trainings in Colombia, in both leadership development and the setting up of a micro-enterprise committee and a number of small businesses, this was the first time that Links had been invited to deliver the SHINE CHC training amongst one of the most marginalised tribes - the

SHINE - CHC
Links International has seen thousands of lives changed and hundreds of communities transformed. It’s come about through the training our teams have done, empowering community influencers in healthcare. We call this training ‘The SHINE Programme’, SHINE being an acronym for Sanitation, Hygiene, Immunisation, Nutrition and Empowerment. Our training is open to the whole community, but tailored towards training a core team of committed community influencers to become voluntary healthcare workers. Links helps this team discover how they can bring positive change to the key issues their community is facing. Where appropriate, we enhance the training of existing healthcare professionals.
The current ‘SHINE’ Community Healthcare (CHC) programme has been developed and honed over the past 4-5 years, largely on the African continent (Malawi and Zambia). There have been many encouraging developments over that time. 2019 saw the start of SHINE (CHC) in two entirely new countries - one in the Shillong area of India and the other in the La Guajira locality of Colombia. Both are long-standing partners of Links International, but neither have started a CHC programme before.

Links has also helped set up ongoing SHINE Community Healthcare (CHC) programmes with its partners in Africa for many years. Nutrition is always a key area of preventative health that can really improve the quality of life in vulnerable communities. This year VIBITAC, a Malawi partner, had the privilege to gain training from a Malawian nutritionist volunteer. It was great to see VIBITAC’s CHC volunteers and clinic staff understanding the ongoing value of

teaching good nutrition messages to their patients and community.
“THIS VISION IS FOR A FUTURE TIME. IT
At Links we are always keen to see our partners both inspired with their vision and empowered to do it. MicroEnterprise Development offers such a great combination. This year has seen the training of a new MED committee with our partner, Seeds of Promise, in Malawi. Twenty young entrepreneurs had previously been trained in vocational skills but lacked accessible capital to help them set up new business ventures. It was great to see how keen the group was to learn new business knowledge and skills. This new MED committee will be based in a lowincome area of Lilongwe and be open to both the young entrepreneurs and vulnerable women in that community.
Just recently our second annual African Partner Summit took place. Joe Gisbey and myself, along with eight Links’ partner organisations from Malawi and Zambia, joined together in Lilongwe for three days to learn and to be inspired about strategic and sustainable projects. Often small organisations struggle to maintain their community programmes and projects through lack of self-sustaining elements in the planning and implementation process of projects. We are hoping that together we can learn how to improve the ongoing impact of each partner’s vision and mission. “PLEASE JOIN US IN

IN SOME OF THE POOREST AREAS OF MALAWI AND ZAMBIA.”

2020: EVERYTHING IS DOUBLE-DOUBLE Our friends in Africa sing an amazing song called ‘God is Good’ that includes a line that says, ‘Everything is DoubleDouble!’ In many cases, the people singing that song are living in the severe realities of poverty. I’ll never forget meeting with a group of young leaders who had just finished singing about the goodness of God and then told me heart-wrenching and tragic stories of their recent history. They were, and still are, trusting God for double portions. They believe His goodness is experienced in the double-ness of His provision. He is their joy and their hope, and there is often no other source. The idea of a double portion comes from six different places in the Scriptures. From the Law of Moses, to God’s promise to Hannah, to Elisha’s
Jason Bollinger CEO, LINKS USA
request of Elijah, to God’s blessing on Israel, to the inheritance of the firstborns (which was a foreshadowing of Jesus), to even reaping and sowing in Revelation. God is in the business of blessing his people and, with Abraham as our model, we believe the double portion blessing is that we are blessed to be a blessing. As we look ahead to 2020, I believe God is calling us to a year of DOUBLE-DOUBLE. I believe we will see his goodness in the multiplication of several of our key functions. I am praying for double the impact in the projects we are facilitating, the people we are working with and sending, the places we are working and the provision needed to accomplish all of these things.
As we celebrate His faithfulness in 2019, we look to the future with great anticipation and excitement for all that’s yet to be done, confronting poverty and creating potential. 0 1903 7 78515
Our CEO, Joe, has recently arrived back from an inspiring time at the 24-7 Prayer Gathering in Belfast, Ireland. We are very excited to be partnering with the 24-7 Prayer Movement, serving them in the area of team and trip administration. With trips ranging from teams reaching out to the club scene in Ibiza, to pilgrimage to Herrnhut, the birthplace of the Moravian missionary movement, 24-7 continues to be passionate about engaging with prayer, mission and justice and it is a privilege to stand with them. To find out more about the teams 24-7 Prayer will be offering in 2020, please keep an eye on the Links Team page and also check out www.24-7Prayer.com.
The One Event is the annual Bible camp of the Ground Level Network of churches. Ground Level have been wonderful long-standing and faithful partners of Links International over the years and we have the great privilege of being able to partner with many of their churches around the country. The One Event is always packed with great teaching, wonderful worship experiences and fun times with friends and family. With this year’s theme being ‘Multiply’, there was a sense that God is awakening the Church in the UK to dream bigger, to go further and to stretch out a faith in a bolder and more intentional way.
In Links International we believe in Partnership. We are so much stronger when we work together. Bunches have partnered with Links International for decades providing wisdom, business acumen and investing into projects in
countries from India, to Colombia and Malawi and many more. Their ongoing commitment to join with us to confront poverty and create potential has meant that countless lives have been changed and communities transformed by their investment. Inasmuch as a purchase of beautiful flowers from Bunches brings life, colour and joy into households across the country, so too Bunches are ensuring that the same joy and colour is being brought into communities across the world. For us in Links International it is a privilege to be able to celebrate 30 years of Bunches not only standing with us in life’s meaningful moments, but also creating those moments for so many around the world.

LONDON MARATHON This year we had four amazing runners taking part in the London Marathon on behalf of Links: Sam Hubbard, Ian Beadles, Greg George and Stephen Taylor. This was the culmination of facing the elements through months of training even in the cold winter months. I know I speak on behalf of our runners when I say that not only were they running to win a prize or beat a personal best but, most importantly, to change lives and transform communities. On behalf of everyone at Links and the communities that will benefit because of your great effort and sacrifice, we want to offer our heartfelt thanks and admiration to you all.
“What a great day! This was my third marathon, and the second time I have had the opportunity to raise money for Links. The level of generosity of friends and family was amazing too; thank you so much for all your sponsorship. If you are considering signing up to run next year - go for it! You won’t regret it!” SAM HUBBARD

This past summer, Links joined together with partners old and new to hold an event in Littlehampton at The Boathouse Restaurant, alongside the picturesque River Arun. The evening was full of entertainment, great food, updates and news about exciting developments within Links, testimonies from partners around the world and opportunities as to how people can get involved, so that together we can change the world. Links believes that
we can confront poverty and create potential by connecting people who are passionate about making a difference. If you would like to find out about how Links can help you to respond to the needs around the world, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
