THIS PROJECT, IN ADDITION TO BEING AN INTEGRATION CENTER FOR REFUGEES, WAS PART OF THE COTE TOP TEN COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS. FOR THE COMPETITION, VARYING SUSTAINABLE MEASURES HAD TO BE MET. THE BUILDING RESPONDS TO THE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS BY USING A COMBINATION OF LARGE THERMAL MASS AND STACKED VENTILATED WALL SYSTEMS THAT HELP TO CONTROL SUNLIGHT AND HEAT TRANSFER WITHIN THE BUILDING. ITS DESIGN ALSO ALLOWS FOR EFFICIENT VENTILATION THROUGH ITS COURT YARDS AND WATER COLLECTION THROUGH ITS SLOPED ROOFS AND HARDSCAPING.

ARCHITECTURAL STUDIO IV // SPRING 2018 TEAMMATES: STEVIE CHEN / EDWARD MOORE / KATIE KOWALSKI SKILLS: CAD / RHINO / CNC / VCARVE

THIS PROJECT IS A PART OF THE COMMUNITY BUILD AND DESIGN STUDIO. IT IS A STAGE FOR A SOLO PERFORMER. THIS SPECIFIC STAGE THIS PROJECT WAS PART OF THE COMMUNITY BUILD AND DESIGN STUDIO AND IS A STAGE FOR A SOLO PERFORMER. THIS SPECIFIC STAGE WAS DESIGNED FOR A PERFORMANCE AT THE COMMUNITY BUILD CONFERENCE IN CHARLESTON THAT OCCURRED IN MARCH 2018. THE DESIGN IS SUCH THAT PANELS CAN BE RE CUT AND REPLACED. THAT, IN CONJUNCTION WITH ITS MODULAR DESIGN, MAKE IT SO THAT IT CAN BE REUSED FOR MULTIPLE DIFFERENT PERFORMANCES OF VARYING SIZES. A LOCAL ARTIST, ADAM SCHRIMMER, DE SIGNED A MURAL TO BE PAINTED ON THE PANELS. THE ARTWORK WAS PROJECTED ONTO THE STAGE AND THEN TRACED, FOLLOWING INFLUENCE FROM GEORGES ROUSSE. THE FINAL PAINTING WAS COMPLETED COLLABORATIVELY DURING THE BOOT CAMP PORTION OF THE COMMUNITY BUILD CONFERENCE BY A GROUP OF PARTICIPANTS.

VISUALIZATION AND REPRESENTATION 2 // SPRING 2017 SKILLS: RHINO / ILLUSTRATOR / LASER CUTTING / VACUUM FORMING / 3D PRINTING

THIS COURSE WAS OUR INTRODUCTION TO USING THE VARIOUS EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE TO US SUCH AS: 3D PRINTERS, 2D AND 3D CNC, LASER CUTTING, AND VACUUM FORMING. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE, WE TOOK A DESIGN FROM OUR PREVIOUS VISUALIZA TION COURSE AND USED IT AS OUR OBJECT FOR LEARNING ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, WE TURNED THE DESIGN INTO A SMALL BUILDING AND SYNTHESIZED ALL OF THE TECHNIQUES WE LEARNED TO MAKE A BUILDING MODEL. THIS ALSO SERVED AS OUR INTRODUCTION TO MATERIALS AND ASSEMBLIES. EXPLODED AXONOMETRIC

A NON DENOMINATIONAL MEMORIAL CHAPEL WAS TO BE DESIGNED TO BE LOCATED ON CLEMSON UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS. THE OB JECT WAS TO CREATE AN INSPIRATIONAL SPACE FOR INDIVIDUALS REGARDLESS OF FAITH. THE SITE WAS LOCATED UPON A HILL AND THE DESIGN STRIVES TO ADDRESS THE PUBLIC FROM ALL DIRECTIONS. FURTHERMORE, THE CHAPEL IS LOCATED IN A BODY OF WATER THAT ALLOWS THE INDIVIDUAL TO CROSS OVER INTO A NEW SPACE. THE STRUCTURAL DESIGN IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT AND SETS THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE SPACE WHILE RESPONDING TO THE ATMOSPHERES OF THE SURROUNDING SITE.

BUILDING DESIGN STUDIO // SPRING 2016 // TEAMMATES: JULIE MORGAN, SARAH ALTENE, JAMES REED SKILLS: RHINO / ILLUSTRATOR / PHOTOSHOP / SEFAIRA / SKETCHUP

THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO COMPLETE A LIVING BUILDING CHALLENGE. OUR STUDIO WAS WORKING ON COLLABORATION WITH THE CINCINNATI ZOO AND BOTANICAL GARDENS TO BRAINSTORM IDEAS FOR A SUSTAINABLE GREENHOUSE THAT WAS TO BE BUILT IN PLACE OF ONE OF THEIR EXISTING PARKING LOTS. THE ZOO WANTED TO CREATE A PROGRAM THAT WOULD BENEFIT MORE THAN JUST THEMSELVES, BUT ALSO BE AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR THEIR GUESTS AND A MEANS FOR THEM TO GIVE BACK TO THE AVONDALE COMMUNITY. OUR DESIGN INCLUDED A PRODUCTION GREENHOUSE, AN EXHIBITION GREENHOUSE, A DAYCARE AND RECREATION CENTER, AND A FARMERS MARKET.
