In the beginning before I started my first semester of college, I thought College was going to be a new and fun experience, but I also expected it to be a “bit” more difficult than high school. To my surprise, it is nothing like high school. First of all, the classmates in your classes will vary in age from as young as seventeen to as old as in their late 40’s maybe 50’s. No worries though, this adds to all the fun experiences you will be having. As you look around the classroom the first day trying to soak up the atmosphere, you will be asked to converse with people sitting near you. This might be a challenge to some because the people sitting near you could be your father’s or mother’s age. It’s best to always be

courteous to the other person and to not talk about silly things. Next, you will get a syllabus and you will be expected to follow that syllabus and the due dates that occur for assignments. If not, it is your loss. No one will remind you what your homework is when to take an exam online or how to do the work. In addition to that, do not be surprised if your professors start cursing

maybe even start picking on some people. You are in a real world setting. It is not high school and it is not a controlled environment, because there are adults. However, there are guidelines everyone must follow. It’s a good rule of thumb to start making small talk when necessary with your fellow classmates. So in case you don’t understand something, you may ask them anytime. The first day can be a bit hectic but if you keep your composure and know what to do and when to do it, things will run smoothly. -Abdalle Ege

My Experience in YMCA’S 3 Youth in Government Model Assembly By Carlos Ortiz My experience in YMCA’s Youth in Government Model Assembly was very fun and unforgettable. During the four days I was there, I got to know how our government works and how a bill (a future law if passed) is presented in the legislative branch. I also learned how to vote in favor of or against other bills. Many of the bills presented by other students were very hilarious. One that I liked was about approving marijuana for recreational use for adults above age 18. That debate took more than an hour and a half. It had so much controversy that every one laughed at it. In the end the students passed the bill. All day I was waiting for my turn to present my bill. Unfortunately, my first and second day I couldn’t do anything but watch or debate because I did not present my bill until the third day. However, in the evening, there were some events going on at

the hotel: dances, games, a talent show, movies, a magician and beautiful angels. On the third day, I got to present my bill, which was about making all public schools have a variety of art classes. Fortunately, it did pass in the committee. By the evening there were some more fun activities after two long boring meetings. I just wanted to sleep, but I realized, “Hey, what the heck am I doing? What happens in Hilton Hotel stays in Hilton Hotel!” So I went down and had some fun!

The race was almost begun.

Love makes love the life,

The racers were all gone.

You hear the beat of you heart,

I was alone at the starting line.

You feel like flying in the clouds and,

By the time I start running. I was the fastest runner but my dream didn't come true. My heart is broken My eyes are full of tears And I want to be carried again. -Abdiwali Salad

You see stars happily start shining. Honest hearts having hours of hope, when in winter walk wildly, whispering wintry wind, You beautiful, best feeling. -Marlene Sacta

Finally, the last day, “Oh mannnn!” After not sleeping the whole night, I couldn’t get to the Capitol in Saint Paul on time. After I arrived, my bill was next and so I had to get confident again, and there I was, me in front of many kids. Once again, my bill passed. Unfortunately, it didn’t get a chance to pass in the senate, but I had fun any way and I learned many things. Luckily, my friend made history as the first Lincoln student to pass his bill that was about reducing taxes to small businesses. It passed in all the legislative branches and even the governor signed it. He did a nice and professional job with his bill. That’s why I strongly recommend that you participate in this program next year if you are a junior, sophomore, or freshman .We all enjoyed participating in this program and we all learned many new things, but the must important we all had fun.

My Life is just like a soccer ball My life is rolling from Africa to the other world My life is passing through so many feet. My life is rolling to fulfill his dreams. My life rolling still rolling -Brook Belachew
