BikeLNK, Lincoln’s bike share system started when some University of Nebraska-Lincoln students, who saw a need in the Lincoln community, reached out to the city and began a process that would transform Lincoln forever. The end product of their passion for the community is a system that serves the Lincoln community and visitors alike. The system launched in April 2018 with 21 stations and 100 bikes. The stations are conveniently located around downtown Lincoln and on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campuses, making it the ideal mode of transportation for quick trips to explore the city and campuses, including the 131 miles of trails in Lincoln. The system has four pass types centered around stays of different durations, Capital Cruiser (24-hour access) available at all kiosks, Visiting Voyager (72-hour access), Monthly Member (unlimited access for a month) and Aluminum Access (unlimited access for a year). To learn more or purchase one of these unlimited passes, visit the website (BikeLNK.com) or download the BCycle app. Within the first three months, the system saw over 9,000 trips and over 400 active members. This system provides a vital transportation link for Lincoln and provides not only a sustainable option for getting around, but one that is fun!

ScooterLNK began as a piolet program in September 2019 which allows electric scooter rental in the downtown area. Two vendors participate in this program (Bird and Spin), with each company providing up to 250 electronic scooters. Visitors interested in hopping on a scooter can find one of the designated downtown parking areas conveniently located near hotels and attractions with payment accepted through the vendor’s app. Over 10,000 users have already enjoyed these scooters. Take a ride and explore downtown Lincoln!

CREATE

A LASTING IMPRESSION Shop local. Buy local. Be local. The best way to get to know a community is to see and do what the locals do. The unique fabric of Lincoln is woven with best kept secrets that visitors keep coming back to, time and time again. It is not always the good or service that a business provides that makes a lasting memory—the experience itself often goes a long way to forging a connection between a community and its visitors.

WAX BUFFALO

ARCHITECTURAL GLASSARTS

Founded in 2014, Wax Buffalo specializes in pure soy, hand poured candles. The popularity of these small batch, “beautifully imperfect” candles continued to spread and eventually, founder Alicia Reisinger opened their flagship store at 727 O Street in the Historic Haymarket in May 2019. Customized candle pourings are also available as the “Candle Lab” offers the perfect hands-on activity for those that want to get the complete candlemaking experience. Candle kits are also available for those that want to make them in their own homes.

Home to the Scott Family Studio at 4035 S 48th Street in Lincoln’s College View neighborhood, Architectural Glassarts designs, builds and repairs custom architectural glass for the home, business and stained glass church windows. A one-of-a-kind experience awaits, where you can discover how beautiful architectural glass is designed for homes, businesses and churches.

While candles have been the main attraction over the years, Wax Buffalo also has plenty of other home décor and home goods that showcase smaller makers from across the globe. For more details, visit waxbuffalo.com.

Make your own creations! Classes and workshops are also featured, with stained glass, mosaic, glass fusing and beadmaking classes available with varied schedules, perfect for group gatherings. For a complete list of activities and retail shop, visit architecturalglassarts.com.

If you’re looking for a slower yet exciting way to see downtown Lincoln and the surrounding areas, some wheeled adventures are sure to pique your interests. Renting a bicycle once or many times can allow you to become familiar with popular destinations throughout the city while a scooter can glide you throughout the downtown area like never before. Let your two-wheeled journey begin!
