This runwayseason was a marvelous one, we saw things unlike anything we had seen before(Mqceeun) and whitnessed the leathertrend live on. Overall I think there was a more feminine and soft feel to the not only the clothing, but also the hair and make-up this s/s 2010.The clothes were flowy and the makeup was kept quite nude and subtle. This soft and feminine feel is very noticeable when you compare it to the structured clothing which we saw , and loved, from the f/w shows. The different idea and look designers created for the coming seasons was apparent in the amount of floaty, long dresses on the runways (Ralph Lauren, ChloÊ, Altuzarra, Calvin Klein, Emilio Pucci) the draping (Lanvin) and the gorgeously girly ruffles. The hues noticeable on the runways were blue, neutral grey shades, but also multicoloured prints and a lot of black was present (Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta, Miu miu, Lanvin, Ann Demeulemeester, Givenchy, Badgley Mischka, Jil Sander, Karl Lagerfeld) which was an interesting contrast. The shapes consisted of an impressive amount of jumpsuits/onepieces, shorts(Maxmara, Isabel Marant), full length dresses and lovely capes(Bora Asku). All in all I think it’s going to be a spring&summer with a lot of variety and a ,maybe even refreshing, feminine touch.
One of the most talked about hair trends for S/S 2010 has got to be the braid, whether it be the Alexander Wang side braid ,the daring McQueen braids or the romantic Oscar de la Renta milkmaid braid(right), as long as it’s a braid you’re good for s/s. Along with being stylish, the braid is an excellent answer for those days when you’re hair just will not do what you want it to. Plus it keeps your head cool on those extra hot days.
New and improved floral prints have been scattered across a lot of runways this s/s. Prada has given the floral print a luxurious look by adding black whereas DVF has gone for a more colourful look by using (vibrant) blues and greens like Isabel Marant. Another possibility is neutral-coloured florals like those of Roberto Cavalli, a designer who’s clothes I usually don’t like, but his prints were gorgeous!
I love the sheer trend. I think that it can make your outfit sexier and a bit daring. A sheer piece under, or perhaps over, pretty much anything will look beautiful. Clothing with a sheer layer in it is also a great way of wearing this trend. Raquel from everybodyfallingdown .blogspot.com wore a simple black cardigan over her sheer dress and created an amazing look with it. Christian Dior, Valentino, Vera Wang, ChloÊ, and Alexander Wang were amongst those who showed sheerness’ potential on the runways.
Ruffles. The word alone is beautiful and by magic the clothes are as well. This must have been what (the) designers (of) Lanvin, Valentino, Stella McCartney and many others must have thought when creating their s/s (rtw) 2010 line. There’s something utterly feminine about ruffles that not a lot of other techniques can muster. Dresses, tops and shorts have been seen on the runway with ruffles, all looking gorgeous. This is definitely a trend worth looking out for this s/s. I certainly will be.
Urban- boho/tribal (prints) are a ‘trend’ that I always associate with summer whether they were on the runways or not. They have such a summery feel to them and are available in so many different forms that everyone can wear them. This year though they were noticeably on the runways! On those of Dries van Noten, Missoni, Diane Von Fürstenberg, Gucci, and Oscar de la Renta to be precise. They’re amazing creations of boho (prints) came in a variety of colours, most of which were blue ,orange and gold as you can see below.
Lace is a relatively new thing, a taboo piece of lingerie, and something a lot of people might not be ready for, but what is as well is an item I cannot imagine being without. It is ,like a lot of things this season, utterly feminine but this s/s ‘trend’ can also be borderline risqué. Most of all it’s a versatile item that can be worn under something to keep it subtle or more noticeable like seen on the runways of Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney and Valentino.
Leather shorts are by far my favourite s/s ‘trend’! They’re so unexpected and fresh, I love them. I think they’re an amazing variation on the massive leather-obsession of f/w ’09 , which is really great and inspiring. On the runways I think they were best done by Celine and Charlotte Ronson. Away from the runways some people are already wearing them! Karla Derass (karlascloset) rocked them with some serious style in a great f/w/proof way. So if you also can’t wait to wear this trend, check her out for a great way to wear them! PS:H&M’s got a nice pair (faux-leather) in the sale section!
Givenchy, Burberry Prosum, and Fendi did everything right this seasons when it comes to shoes. They’ve created a new kind of style of shoes for us to wrap our feet in the coming season. Quite literary in fact. These new styles are all about wrapping around your feet and tying knots. And you can get all of this on a few wonderful inches of platform to help you cope with their tall, spiked heels. Fendi even mixed in the sheer-trend with the draped shoes to create the mauve and red beauties below.
Image courtesy of http://www.stylecaster.com Jade green jewellery is something that a lot of people noticed as a trend for the coming seasons including the wonderful stylecaster.com. I think green is a fabulously summery colour and thus is a great colour for s/s. It will go amazingly with white, grey and this season’s surprising colour: black. Besides this semi-precious stone, others are also very of-the-season as YSL has shown with it’s gorgeous blue and purple rings. Luckily I already have my fair share of jade green jewels, if you don’t have any yet then check out the next page!
Particulière. If this name doesn’t ring a bell, you better get well acquainted with it because it’s going to be a main colour for nailpolish in the coming season. And I’m so happy it is. I’ve been wanting a colour like this for a very long time but it’s never (really) been made until now. It’s a neutral colour and so will go with anything, can someone say perfect? Can’t wait to go and buy it. Hm I might just get the other colours while I’m at it..
