Accelerated Management Programme -Fast track for up-and-coming managers

SBS-EM EXECUTIVE EDUCATION --Accelerated Management Programme

I’m a trained engineer. My mind is technical. And in my previous positions, I mainly interacted with other technicians, so we spoke the same language. Today my attributes are more international and commercial. I’m not speaking only with engineers and the cartesian brain is not enough anymore.

SANNY HANSSENS Project Engineer, Vigan Engineering

I was hesitating between taking a long training course in management and a shorter course. For me, opting for the accelerated programme was a question of timing. I’m about to be promoted and I wanted this new stage in my career to be accompanied by proper, solid training. That’s why the Solvay programme, which includes a proper evaluation at the end, seemed to offer more value than other similar programmes on the market.

CÉDRIC STAPPAERTS Deputy Commissioning Manager, Electrabel GDF SUEZ

I’m now leading a team of 10 people and, in terms of perception, people in the company know what I can accomplish. They’ve seen the skills put into practice and both my managers and my team have greater confidence. As for me, I also feel more confident speaking to different departments and I better understand decisions made by upper management. JESSIE DUNCAN Head of EU Monitoring & Data, Dods

SBS-EM EXECUTIVE EDUCATION --Accelerated Management Programme

A WORD OF WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTORS Why a general management training course for young working professionals ? Now more than ever, young managers are facing a highly competitive and increasingly complex world. Whether they are working in the business world, for the public sector or for NGOs, they need perspective, knowledge and core managerial skills if they are to succeed. Sometimes, career opportunities present themselves when you least expect it. You might not be ready and you certainly do not have one or two years to prepare. When that happens, you need to familiarise yourself with management tools and techniques quickly! Time to take the intensive fast track to leadership. On the corporate level, the training needs for this group are also becoming vital. Retaining talent is now just as important as finding them. To that end, more attention is being paid to career development and management. Companies are looking for targeted learning and short or accelerated training opportunities for their high-potential employees. Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM) thought it necessary to address all these needs with its traditional academic approach and methodology, mixing general knowledge and more specific content, hard and soft skills and striking the right balance between theory and real-life challenges. Our participants should come out of this experience with new insights and knowledge that are directly applicable in the workplace. Anchored in the heart of Europe, the Brussels international community and the business world, the School wanted to offer a programme in English that is compatible with students’ professional obligations. In the next few pages, you will learn more about the structure and specifics of SBSEM’s Accelerated Management Programme. We hope it meets your needs.

THE SOLVAY APPROACH Solvay Brussels School’s Accelerated Management Programme is delivered by academics and experts in their field through a wide variety of learning practices such as self-awareness, interactive lectures, short classroom exercises, student-suggested cases and other case-studies, group discussions, reenactments and many practical examples. More specifically, the Accelerated Management Programme focuses on four aspects:

// THE ESSENTIALS Spotlighting fundamental management concepts providing a basis for understanding everyday corporate challenges and needs.

// UP-TO-DATE Focusing on the most recent concepts in each functional area examined. Participants will be swiftly familiarised with the latest trends and business buzzwords.

// FUTURE ORIENTED Developing a “skills hub” (books, on-line references, cases, articles, etc.) to provide a set of management tools and key resources students can apply immediately and long after the programme is over.

INDIVIDUAL COACHING SESSIONS Each participant in the Leadership & Self-Assessment module is invited for a one-on-one coaching session after submission of the final assignment. The coaching session is an opportunity for participants to receive 1

timely and pragmatic feedback on their Personal Business Plan, and

coaching on being intentional with where they are focusing their time and energy as they build leadership skills and confidence.

At this crucial point in the leadership development trajectory, young managers need to develop an awareness of how their choices are impacting their ability to achieve success in their professional life. Often we are so busy doing the job, we let out development «just happen» or assume it will happen if we chase after certain job titles. Coaching and feedback can act as a catalyst to help raise the young manager’s awareness of the importance of identifying and targeting the experiences they need in their leadership portfolio to be able to jump the curve and achieve their ambitions.

SBS-EM EXECUTIVE EDUCATION --Accelerated Management Programme

The atmosphere inside the group is excellent. Participants come from a wide variety of backgrounds, enriching the discussion and allowing you to expand your network of contacts. NICOLAS REDANT Account Manager, Vanbreda International - Global Solutions

My company was very enthusiastic about Solvay’s reputation. But it’s really the content that persuaded me. Nowhere else have I found the same type of content spread over the same length of time. Even the days – Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays – are ideal. WIM COOREVITS Senior Consultant, Delaware Consulting

The long-term goal is obviously to climb the ladder inside my organisation. But what I was looking for in particular was this immediate return that the AMP has already provided. I made progress in several areas and this allows me to meet my clients’ needs even better. FRANÇOISE BECKERS Management Consultant, Empact
