It is necessary to get more understanding of real lighting effects in order to find a better design solution. The prototyping of lighting system is a direct way of aquiring know-how to achieve the lighting requirement. During this phase, the main problems that need to be solved are: 1. Confirm the shadowing solution. 2. Define the lighting source for achieving best shadow effect. 3. Define the structure of the final product.

The scented material could be used as the gobo piece instead of using traditional metal materials. With different kinds of solidifying process, the beeswax pieces appear with different patterns which could bring a quite natural lighting effect to space. The concept of the project is to mimic natural lighting effect to achieve a relaxed environment.

After the testing of the effect, the lighting system is gradually formed. The designed lighting system of beeswax Gobo pieces and Fresnel lens is used to show the typical lighting effect and bring the natural scented experience to the user.

General Lighting Mode Provides a setup frequency of dynamic lighting effect to guide a breathing mindfulness practice to user.

Relaxing Mode Provides the shadowing effect and low illuminance to space for achieving a relaxed environment. The application allows user to adjust the color of the direct light and play the audios from natural scene.

“The Italian Art of the Panino� Panino Giusto represents the italian identity not only in terms of the ingredients used to prepare the Panino, but also in the style of the service provided and the attention paid to the design. After nearly 40years about establish of Panino Giusto the company now have 28 restaurants in 5 different countries: Italy, England, Japan, Hong Kong (China) and the USA.

WORKSHOP \ INDIVIDUAL WORK \ 1 WEEK

By the aim of promoting and valorizing the panino italiano in the world, the company cooperated with Politecnico di Milano developed the design workshop in university. The task is to redesign the plate for serving the panino in their restaurants.

Diners generally have high satisfaction about the restaurant

waiters & operators are quick and efficient, however too busy to handle especially in dinner time (carry several plates on the arm at a time)

Customers seek for high quality of food Company seeks for the recognization from customers

LEADING ACTOR IS THE PANINO PRODUCT IMAGE

A plate just for Panino Giusto. When people were eating they pay most of the attention on the food, not the utensil for putting it. A perfect plate for panino should not be over-designed on the figure to attract all attention of people which supposed to pay for the food. The plate should suit for both two shapes of panino.

A simple plate yet well-designed. Simple on the shape, the plate should be designed to be convenient in the serving process for the concern of the waiters.

THE ONE SUITS FOR TWO The specific angle for waiter to take the plate easily

The plate is designed to suit for two shapes of panino. Using embossing texture to point out the adaptable location for two kinds of panino.

SERVING MORE AT ONE TIME It is not rare that the waiter serves several dishes at one time, It is a plus function to have the special structure fitted well to the human arm and improves the efficiency of the work.

Reserve the space on the bottom of the plate for waiters to use their arm to carry more dishes at one time.

The use of technology is what we should know for achieving the design ideas efficiently and smartly. As the course's project in the first year of the master in university, we got the brief of using laser cut technology to design an object. Using the Laser Cutting is possible to achieve the complicated and flexible shape and fit for lots of materials. It gives the freedom in ideation and conception. The assignment is rather an opened question. By then I was just reading about the idea of Wabi Sabi, fascinated by the concept of appreciating of the flow of the life. Could an object grows and gradually changes by the time of use as they seem to have a life?

“ COULD AN OBJECT GROWS AND GRADUALLY CHANGES BY THE TIME OF USE? �

This has connected me to the study of the material which I found the copper would rust when exposed to the air and water and grows beautiful green colour on the surface and prevents the internal corrosion. The umbrella holder is usually to be the object which left forgotten with dirty rain and dusts the corner. It shouldn't own a life like this. With the drops of rain on the umbrella and the air, the holder is a factory which produces beauty silently.

Cut the pattern and shape on the material. (Laser cutting on copper sheet/ Knife cutting on cardboard)

STEP.2 FOLDING

Fold the flat sheet into 3d shape. It is necessary to pre-set the folding line in order to guide the correct folding position and easier the process.

It provides each people with their own experience with a single product. It is by what this project will focus to achieve the personalization on the product.

The interaction about the user to a light is not only realized by what user chooses to operate, but the nature mentality react which is detective through physiological status by wearable devices.

Most basic emotions are associated with sensations of elevated activity in the upper chest area, likely corresponding to changes in breathing and heart rate. To corresponde with the body conditions, the light will turn dim and change as a flame to calm the user when people tend to be excited.
