SUCCESS AFTER STARTING OVER After working in corporate sales for over 20 years, James* began battling with bipolar disorder to a point that he was no longer able to maintain employment or his career.
Today, James has maintained his employment and is ready to advance his career. James’ goal for the future is to become financially independent.
Three years after becoming unemployed, James was ready to make a change and was referred to Lifetrack Resources’ employment services for people with disabilities to empower him to find meaningful and manageable employment. James’ job counselor reassured him that he could restart his career even with the gap in employment. Together they began job searching, updating his résumé and practicing interview skills. Two months into his job search, James was offered a job as a mobile phone sales representative. After working 30 hours a week for some time, James confided in his job counselor that when they first met he was sleeping around 20 hours a day. Thanks in part to his new job, James has returned to an average sleep schedule and feels mentally refreshed.
Lifetrack Resources is a leading provider in the metropolitan area helping people overcome obstacles to employment. Annually, Lifetrack helps over two thousand individuals—immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities and those wanting to get off welfare—with training, job placement and job retention. *Name has been changed to protect the identity of the individual served.
LOCAL AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR NANCY CARLSON ENTERTAINS CROWD Nancy Carlson, local children’s book author and illustrator, who has published more than 60 books was the featured speaker at Lifetrack Resources’ annual Legacy Luncheon. Nancy shared with guests her adventures in writing and illustrating pictures books. At each Legacy Luncheon Lifetrack honors individuals who contribute to the future of Lifetrack Resources with a gift to the Endowment Fund or through a gift in their will or estate plan. For more information on planned giving contact Louise Jones at email@example.com or 651-265-2389. 2
During the luncheon, Lifetrack Resources’ staff shared items that symbolize their work. Below are a few examples. The Getting Ready for Kindergarten Calendar includes everyday activities that parents, caregivers and teachers can do with preschool children in their home, school and community. These activities help children learn and grow as they prepare for kindergarten. This calendar includes the Minnesota Department of Education Developmental Milestone checklist specifically designed for 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. A spool of thread represents the new collaboration between Dunwoody Institute of Technology, local industrial sewing manufacturers and Lifetrack Resources. Together, we are creating certified training for new jobs in the industrial sewing industry to provide skilled workers to support this growing industry in Minnesota.
