Parker Lifestyle | May 2018

MAY IS HERE, AND IT’S TIME TO REJUVENATE THE SOUL WITH A GIRLS GETAWAY WEEKEND. Lucky you, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs—and a long soak—is only a three-hour drive away from Parker. Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is a historic bathhouse and resort tucked into the Collegiate Peaks range in Chafee County. The hot springs attraction here is still somewhat of a rustic experience, where you can walk down to Chalk Creek to sit in natural bubbling pools on the river’s edge. Make this weekend all about soaking your cares away.  Sure, if you care to, bring boots... for a hike in ghost town St. Elmo, just up the road from the resort. But save the gold medal fishing, river rafting, mountain bike riding or summiting one of the 14ers for later in the summer, and make this weekend all about relaxing with the ladies. Soak in the hot springs; have a spa day; and explore nearby Salida with shopping, eating and drinking craft beers or Colorado-made wine.

“MAKE IT YOUR OWN SPACE. I DO NOT THINK IT HAS TO BE 100 PERCENT OF THE SAME DESIGN STYLE.”

Find something that you really love—such as a light fixture—and make that the signature piece of your space, Alex says.

AN INTERIOR DESIGNER FOR 20 YEARS, ALEX WHITMAN SAYS HER BIGGEST TIPS FOR CREATING A GREAT HOME IS TO SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THINGS YOU LOVE AND TO MAKE YOUR SPACE WORK FOR YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW. Alex is the project manager for Ellis Design Studio, the firm responsible for interior designing and merchandising Lokal Homes' Two Bridges model homes in Parker.  If you’re a busy mom managing a home business and overseeing homework, carve out a command center with a large flat work table and wall planning calendar. Choose fabrics that will wear well and still look good when friends come to dinner. “Make it your own space," she says. "I do not think it has to be 100 percent of the same design style. It’s OK to break out a little when it comes to personal space.” Alex says she loves the feminine East Coast design traditions she grew up with. “I still love a good floral wallpaper, though I can’t say I love a floral sofa,” she says, laughing. So, love that hot-pink tufted armchair? Make it the signature piece at your desk. Obsessing on that wild floral wallpaper for the powder room? Well, you know what Alex would do.

This herringbone wall adds a pop of interest—and is a conversation starter—for the office. 28
