Calling it another hospital is like calling Frisco another city.

Introducing the all-new, altogether different Texas Health Frisco. There’s no place in America that’s quite like Frisco. That’s why it deserves a hospital that’s one of a kind. From the moment you arrive on campus, you will see that Texas Health Frisco was built with you in mind. It has everything you would anticipate from an advanced medical center, including a collaboration with world-renowned UT Southwestern. But it also has touches you wouldn’t expect, like boot camps and yoga classes, walking trails and natural building materials like wood and limestone, and a rainwater irrigation system. And that makes us more than a hospital, we’re a destination for your health and well-being.

“OURS AREN’T THE RUN-OF-THE-MILL MURPHY BEDS. THEY’RE NOVEL, AND PEOPLE ARE IN AWE THE BEDS DON’T LOOK LIKE A MURPHY BED AT ALL, AT FIRST GLANCE.” SOMETIMES CALLED FOLD-DOWN OR  PULLDOWN BEDS,  THE UNIQUE MURPHY DESIGNS OF DORA MOSS BEDS, LLC OFTEN ARE INSTEAD CALLED  ARMOIRES AND CABINETS DUE TO THEIR CLASSY, CLEVER OVERALL EXECUTIONS.  “Ours aren’t the run-of-the-mill Murphy beds. They’re novel, and people are in awe the beds don’t look like a Murphy bed at all, at first glance,” says Leroy Henry, owner of this Mckinney-based business.  As interesting as the company’s namesake—who was Leroy’s grandmother, Dora Moss—these contemporary guest beds do more than save space. Leroy says any of their vertical or horizontal Murphy beds can be customized to suit various home designs and different needs. They also make bunk beds and kids’ playhouses.

He says they can create one-of-a-kind Murphy bed cabinets including custom features, such as:

+ Added shelving around the folding cabinet for extra storage

+ False drawer fronts to give the illusion of a stylish armoire

+ Selected paint stain or wooded finishes to match other furniture Leroy says their horizontal Murphy beds work well for full- or twin-sized beds, and the space above the bed can be used for other decor, such as bookcases, shelves, photos, artwork or cabinetry. He adds that the vertical Murphy beds provide functional aspects when queen-or king-sized mattresses are desired.  16

Frisco Life | December 2019

“All of our beds are made in Texas,” assures Leroy, who says they also carry a full line of candles, wall decor, lamps, glass art from a local artist, pillows and throws to create guest rooms with character. Those with New Year’s resolutions about reorganizing living or office space may want to think hard about these sophisticated Murphy beds due to their flexibility. They leave more space for having multi-functional rooms, which can be turned into a guest room at the flick of a wrist. The Dora Moss Beds team just celebrated the company’s fourth business anniversary in November.

“DORA MOSS MURPHY BEDS SAVE SPACE, ARE EASY TO USE AND ARE COMFORTABLE. OUR BEDS ALLOW CUSTOMERS TO KEEP THEIR MULTI-PURPOSE SPACES IN THEIR HOMES, AND ACTUALLY BECOME VALUED PIECES OF THEIR OVERALL FURNITURE DECOR.” —LEROY HENRY, OWNER OF DORA MOSS BEDS LLC.

WHILE COMMUNITY HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVES TYPICALLY YIELD AN ABUNDANT NUMBER OF TOYS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN, BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF COLLIN COUNTY STAFFERS IN FRISCO SAY THEY ARE DESPERATE FOR APPROPRIATE DONATED ITEMS FOR TWEENS AND TEENAGERS.  Suggested items to donate for those 12 to 18 years old include books, electronics, food, movie passes, retail cards, backpacks, stick-on phone pockets, barrette sets, beanies, drinking tumblers, battery power banks, lip balm kits, sports equipment, pillows, cellphone cases, journals, pop-socket phone stands, sunglasses, perfume, makeup brush cleaners, wallets, cable bites, Bluetooth speakers, air loungers, card games and mobile chargers.  Donations should be dropped off by Dec. 9 at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collin County Administration Office, 7700 W. Main St., Suite E. Liliana Rogers, the Clubs’ chief development officer, says donations should remain unwrapped, so they can be matched to recipients. “We really appreciate donated gift bags or boxes to eventually place the items in, though,” she adds.  BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS OF COLLIN COUNTY BACKGROUND Starting as the McKinney Boys Club in October of 1968, this club has been a landmark in the Collin County community and has influenced the lives of countless youth.  In 1997, the Frisco branch opened and operated out of the Frisco Independent School District Administrative Offices. Less than a year later, it moved to Acker Elementary School until opening doors to a location at 6890 Main St. in downtown Frisco. Not long after, the Bob and Joy Darling Branch was opened at 6726 Main St., also in downtown Frisco. For several years, this location served approximately 260 to 300 children per day. Children crowded around the floor to soak up the motivation and teaching that came from staff members. They moved pool tables and foosball tables every day to set up tables to enjoy a hot meal. The Frisco club moved again in 2008 to the current location of 8750 McKinney

LEGACY GIFTS Liliana, who oversees The Heritage Club as an association of friends of Boys and  Girls Clubs of Collin County, says it’s an excellent time of year to consider including the Club in estate plans. Such plans might  include wills, charitable gift annuities, trust arrangements, real estate gifts or life insurance policies. She adds that these types of financial donations are great ways to help start a child’s future. “Boys and  Girls Clubs of Collin County keeps youths  safe after school by providing a positive environment where they can learn, play and grow. Donate today to help get more young people on the road to a greater future,” says Liliana.  “Your tax-deductible gift today will make a world of difference for a youth in need. PARTING THOUGHTS

Corners of the Heart Mark and Debbie Blum

BLESSINGS FROM OTHER’S HOLIDAY INSPIRATIONS ARTICLE BECKA CORBITT

HEARING FROM THE HEART OF ANOTHER IS BEYOND INSPIRING. Each person’s thoughts take us down a journey of discovery and bring to life the story that lies within our own heart. The Christmas Season is immersed with different perspectives and holds special significance to each person individually. Following are four such different, yet deeply moving, thoughts.  Kevin Westerfield

“I love Christmas because people think of generosity! My wife, Debbie, and I have given our lives to help other people—all around the world. This Christmas, I challenge you to do something for someone who could never repay you. Generosity is love in action, and  the rewards are eternal!” —Mark Blum, Elevated Roofing, LLC, relationship manager “Love is always in season! Spread love everywhere, first of all, in your own house. Give love to your children, to your wife or husband, to a next-door neighbor. Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness.” —Kevin

Milessa Murphy Stewart

Westerfield, Frisco Chamber of Commerce relationship manager “Like the saying goes, ‘Save the best for last.’ Living in Frisco, we rarely see snow, but we do have our fireplaces ablaze and family gathered for special times. It doesn’t matter what faith we celebrate during this season; we are kindred spirits, full of the gifts of grace, love and thoughtfulness. Personally, December is my favorite dessert—oh, I mean month (LOL)! Happy End of Year.” —Milessa Murphy Stewart, modern impressionist artist “The holiday season for me is the time to exhale. The time to give myself grace for what I have or have not accomplished over the past year. A time for gratitude and peace. I love the smiles from people who normally don’t smile, and the special time I spend with family and friends.” —Evelyn Kershaw, stylist and entrepreneur GENEROSITY. Gifts of grace. Thoughtfulness. Loving one another. Gratitude and peace. Such amazing thoughts that encapsulate this wonderful Christmas season. As Billy Graham shared, “Christmas is
