OPEN HOUSE

THE INTERIOR OF THE WESTRIDGE ABODE IN HIGHLANDS RANCH WAS GETTING “REALLY MASCULINE,” ACCORDING TO DESIGNER TRISH BONNEY. “I kept saying (to the wife) we have to put you in here, make it more feminine!” Bonney, who owns TAB Interior Designs in Highlands Ranch, encouraged the owners not to remodel but “refresh” the master bedroom. Once she had the go-ahead from the husband, Bonney and her design assistant, Bryonna Williams, went for it. Pulling from Pinterest and some items the wife already owned, including a “pillow she could never figure out what to do with,” Bonney created a mood board for the wife, who was smitten with all of the concepts. As for the husband’s take on the prospect of living in a feminized boudoir, “His attitude was, ‘happy wife, happy life!’” Bonney laughs. With a “tight budget” of $8,000, the team decided on new floors, a large area rug and wallpaper. They also decided to add a sliding barn door between the bedroom and bathroom. “The floral wall-covering is gorgeous. We paired it with a navy paint on the other walls,” Bonney gushes. Acting as a foil to the dark, masculine furniture, she added a set of cream colored side tables with an antiqued finish. TAB Interior Designs Principle and Designer Trish Bonney with her design assistant, Bryonna Williams in the freshly remade feminine boudoir.

With the six-week project completed, the owners—husband and wife alike—are pleased. “This room shows you how to do something feminine without it being all pink.” Bonney says with note of satisfaction.

"A 'REFRESH' IS A GREAT WAY TO SHOW HOW BIG YOU CAN GO WITH A SMALL BUDGET," BONNEY SAYS.

Jeane Timmer Dole Jeane Timmer Dole is so passionate about design that pictures from her worldwide travels—another passion—focus on design elements rather than people. “I enjoy photographing things like tiles or ceilings, and observing different uses of materials,” the mother of three adult children says. This eye for design has fueled Dole’s interior design company, à la carte DESIGN, for the past 16 years. “I love transforming personal spaces and showing people how important a beautiful living environment can be to overall well-being,” she says. “When a client says, ‘You really get me,’ I know I’ve succeeded,” says Dole.

Krystal Woodbury At age 10, Krystal Woodbury stood on a table during a party and announced that she was going to be a lawyer. Thirty-five years later, Woodbury’s dedication to her law career hasn’t wavered. An estate planning attorney with The Law Center P.C. in Highlands Ranch, Woodbury also owns Colorado Fiduciary Services, LLC. But while law has been lifelong, Woodbury has a newfound passion for bowling, alongside her husband and 10-year-old son. Woodbury particularly enjoys working with the elderly, and

AJ Kikumoto A lifelong dancer and mother of six children ranging from 2 to 14 years old, AJ Kikumoto is an instructor and coach at Starstruck Academy of Dance. “I love how freeing dance is, but it also requires discipline,” she says. An avid volunteer, makeup consultant, and Highlands Ranch resident since 2008, Kikumoto was overjoyed to compete as Mrs. Highlands Ranch in the Mrs. Colorado America pageant in April , where she placed in the top 12 finalists. “Now is a powerful time in my life. I can finally concentrate on myself, which makes me a better mom as well as a better contributor to our community,” says Kikumoto.

Andrea Ferretti For Andrea Ferretti, Vice President and Associate Chief Nursing Officer of Children’s Hospital Colorado, it’s always been about the children. They are her passion and her motivation. “The strength and resilience children show in the face of health challenges is inspiring,” she says.  In a pediatric nursing career spanning 41 years, Ferretti sees life’s miracles as well as its tragedies each day. This has given her an appreciation for life that drives her professionally and personally. A mother of two sons and two grandchildren, she enjoys service work, outdoor activities and traveling. “I wake up thankful each day,” she says. 24

I do what I can to help so that the child can get back to being a kid,” says Bruny. Though she focuses on surgeries in cancer patients, she also performs routine surgeries. “I take what I do very personally, and I take it to heart when things don’t have the desired outcome. But the successes I hold dear. They keep me going,” Bruny says.

PARTING THOUGHTS

WHAT SIXTY LOOKS LIKE ARTICLE DAWSON BUTLER PHOTOGRAPHY JODI MICHAEL HORNER

WHO: Susan Whatley AGE: 60 ABOUT: Retired dental office manager, mother of three and grandmother of five HAVE YOU ALWAYS TAKEN SUCH GREAT CARE OF YOURSELF? I have always tried to do the best I could at taking care of myself—I’ve probably been working a little harder at it over the last ten years. WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED? I stay motivated by setting goals for myself and challenging myself only!  I am not competitive when it comes to others. WHAT ARE YOUR TRIED & TRUE METHODS? Getting a good night’s rest and drinking plenty of water are key. I also buy organic whenever possible, limit sugar to natural sugars and do my best to stay away from high fructose corn syrup. Aside from that, I am always sure to get enough protein when working out so that my muscles have the proper fuel they need to not only build but recover.  I also try to drink a smoothie once a day made out of coconut & almond milk, organic frozen berries and organic greens.
