Round up the women who make life fun and hit the road. Our guide will help you plan the perfect trip and make sure you have fun—and plenty of things to do—while you're away. We'll also bring you inside a local feminine space and share some favorite items from a local duo. AS AN AWARD-WINNING INTERIOR DESIGNER, NANCY BARRETT ZEROES IN ON CLIENT'S INNER DREAMS FOR SURROUNDINGS. This owner of Beautiful Rooms at 16670 Old Chesterfield Road has been assisting clients since 1995, including how to create the newly popular "feminine spaces." "Oftentimes, it's about adding the right accessories because many women want timeless, long-lasting but customized interiors," Nancy says. As an American Society of Interior Designers member and past chapter president, Nancy applies solid, natural design fundamentals into every project. But to create more "her space" personal touches, she says there are many choices of bling. "To glam it up, we can weave in different types of sparkle, such as fabrics, crystal or metallics," she says. "And to create a more feminine look overall, we use more curved lines." For example, Nancy had a recent client who wanted a custom-tailored gathering spot for herself and friends, so they turned a living room into a space with four chairs, circular table, big mirror and chandelier. She also had a client who wanted to remodel her bathroom with some feminine touches without going over the top. A soaking tub, lighted mirrors, crystal cabinet hardware and green–her favorite color—glass tile added a feminine thrill. CONTINUED >

”TO MAKE A SPACE WARM AND INVITING, I LIKE TO MIX MULTIPLE TEXTURES TO EACH CLIENT’S TASTE.”

GET THE LOOK + NANCY SUGGESTS INCORPORATING TRENDY ACCESSORIES.

She says a popular, current touch is adding softness through faux fur: fur on benches, as throws, at ends of beds. Introducing shimmery, gold-colored items instantly makes rooms pop. Add new decorations that easily can be changed or switched out for seasonal reasons. This bedroom formerly was home to teenage boys. Now it beckons with chenille fabric, a sparkling acrylic bench, mercury glass lamps and metallic art frames.

DINNER & A MOVIE STAR ENJOY LUNCH OR DINNER AT ART ON THE SQUARE AND CATCH MELISSA MCCARTHY IN “LIFE OF THE PARTY” ARTICLE KATHLEEN KAISER

IF YOU TRAVEL FOUR HOURS NORTH OF ST. Louis, you will find the town of Plainfield Illinois, which is where Melissa Ann McCarthy’s story began. Born into a Catholic home, and raised on a farm, this girl’s Midwestern roots are strong and deep. Deciding to leave the nest to head to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale for college, McCarthy soon decided the college life wasn’t for her and headed off to do stand-up comedy in New York City and Los Angeles. She is an alumna of The Groundlings, an improv and sketch comedy troupe which she was a part of for over 10 years. Then, when the small screen came calling, she didn’t miss a beat, performing opposite her cousin Jenny McCarthy in the short-lived NBC comedy "Jenny." But you probably remember her best from her role on the small screen, playing Sookie St. James, the super-friendly and very klutzy friend of Lorelai in "Gilmore Girls" from 44

A great place to enjoy exquisite food while also getting the opportunity to view fine art from all over the world is at the 17th Annual Art on the Square, May 18-20, in Belleville, Illinois. Once you’ve strolled around the public square filled with artists showing in 12 different mediums, you can also enjoy fabulous culinary creations from the award-winning Beast Craft BBQ or delectable sushi from St. Louis’ own Drunken Fish. You might also want to indulge that sweet tooth of yours with homemade German pastries from Oma Gisi's German Bakery or dive into some handmade ice cream from the White Cottage Ice Cream Parlor. Once your tummy’s full, you can enjoy live music, a childrens' area and so much more all weekend long.  For more information about the show and the culinary creations throughout the food court, visit ArtOnTheSquare.com. IN CHESTERFIELD COMMONS PLAZA, OBVIOUSLY FOCUS ON HAIR WITHIN THEIR SALON. But they also often concentrate on tresses during charitable events and for community causes. One nonprofit very special to artistic directors Kathy and Allyson is Friends Of Kids With Cancer.

"We're truly blessed and honored to be able to help these beautiful stars shine," Kathy says about Friends of Kids' annual Fashion Show & Boutique fundraiser, The fundraiser is a day at the Ritz Carlton that focuses on the youths' fun, smiles, laughter and strength. It's about not letting cancer define one's life. The kids hit the runway, complete with hair and makeup done by area cosmetologists, including Kathy.

The concept of spotlighting others even works well with the name of Allyson and Kathy's salon, which, translated from Italian, means "nice, beautiful people." In fact, Allyson says their motto is, "Bella Gente brings forward the beautiful person in you." Additionally, Bella Gente Salon team members donate winter coats for Warners' Warm-Up coat drive each year. They also collect canned goods for Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service, which is one of the region's largest social service providers for individuals, families and children. "With all of the craziness in the world today, this salon offers a respite and encourages positivity," Kathy says.
