Billings Lifestyle in 2018! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting down to write our January letter to all of you—talking about resolutions and renewal—and yet, here we are, almost time to do it again. There’s a unique perspective that working in publishing brings. While we certainly don’t want to wish our lives away, we’re always looking toward the future. Whether it’s planning our next issue or developing story ideas for the next year, we’re often already fast forwarded to future months before the current month has even begun. The fast-paced lifestyle this industry calls for can often make it difficult to really settle down and absorb what’s going on around us and, before we know it, the year is over and it’s time to move forward again. So this December, we hope you take the time to slow down a little bit. With the holiday season upon us, we hope you make the time to take it all in. Enjoy your time with family and friends, bask in the magic of the winter season, reflect on past memories you hold closely in your hearts and keep the new ones you create in the present for as long as you can. We’ll take your lead, and we can’t wait to see you next year!

AROUND TOWN

33RD ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREES Begun in 1985, the Festival of Trees has become synonymous with the holiday season in Billings. For many residents and visitors, the holidays would not be complete without at least one visit to view the trees or participate in the weekend activities. Each year, the Festival of Trees provides an opportunity for community members to help prevent child abuse and neglect in Yellowstone County and the surrounding area. Donating or buying a tree, sponsoring the event or participating in one of the many weekend activities during the festival helps raise money and awareness. For

A FLAIR FOR HOME DECOR RUNS IN KELSEY MEIER'S FAMILY. Her grandparents founded Wagner's Home Furnishings in Missoula 65 years ago, a business that specializes in making "houses into homes." Her own interest in decorating flourished from an early age. "As a child, I couldn’t wait for the seasons to change so that I could help my mom bring out the holiday decorations," Kelsey says. "Whether it was Christmas, Valentine’s Day or even St. Patrick’s Day, my mom decorated for each and every holiday, and I loved it—I still do." Kelsey also loved to rearrange and redecorate her bedroom. Born and raised in Billings, Kelsey graduated from the University of Montana in Missoula, where she spent time working at the family store, cultivating her knowledge of furnishings and styles. Although her degree is in elementary education, she ultimately ended up back in her hometown with her heart set on a new endeavor: a seasonal decorating business. "Friends and family have often asked for help when it came to making decorating decisions," she says. "On numerous occasions, I have been told, 'You have a knack for decorating. You really should do this for a job.'" Her start came earlier this year when she posted a photograph of her festive fall porch on social media. Soon after, the requests for decorating help were pouring in, and Adorn Montana was born. Adorn Montana specializes in front porch decor, tablescapes and basic decorating (seasonal and every day), as well as window displays for businesses. "What makes my business unique is that I rent my decor to clients," Kelsey says. "Of course, I’m happy to incorporate my client’s own decor and ideas, but for most, all they have to provide is the space for me to come and 'adorn' their home!" Devon Davidson, MARS

Raised on a farm in Northeastern Montana, Devon Davidson always believed he would become a farmer, joining the trade of his father. During junior year of college, his father passed away, leaving Devon to contemplate the future. He met his wife shortly after his father’s passing and spent a few years working in North Carolina and Michigan, but ultimately ended up back in Montana to start a family. Partnered with his cousin, Devon decided to embark upon a new business venture. Both shared an interest in the MARS franchise which offered mobile auto cosmetic repairs for dealerships. Since then, his cousin has moved to Washington to run his own MARS, and Devon’s team is set up in a new building on Gabel Road. Their business services the retail public and offers a variety of services to accessorize vehicles, while continuing to service all major auto dealerships in town for cosmetic repairs. MARS can do almost anything to repair a vehicle cosmetically, detail it or accessorize it. 24

CLEAN WATER

CHANGES ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.

When a community gets access to clean water, it can change just about everything. It can improve health, increase access to food, grow local economies, and help kids spend more time in school.

TIFFANY YOUNGREN, OWNER OF OMH AGENCY, SHARES HOW SHE USES AMAZON ALEXA’S DAILY FLASH BRIEFINGS

INFORMATION IN A FLASH ARTICLE

JEFF LETHERT

I LOVE FLASH BRIEFINGS BECAUSE I

ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE A “SHOULD” LIST

01 04 02

THAT INCLUDES LEARNING WORDS, READING THE BIBLE, BEING UP TO DATE IN MY INDUSTRY, AND, WELL, SOMETIMES I JUST WANT TO LAUGH. I built my Alexa Daily Flash Briefing to check all those boxes! The cool thing

05

about Flash Briefings is that they are short. They must be under 10 minutes each—I only select those under 3 minutes—so I can get through a few as I’m taking my coat off and starting my computer in the morning. Whatever is important to you—let’s say you want some nutrition inspiration, bible devotions, meditation, news, tech or financial updates—there is likely a flash briefing for that! Learn more about OMH Agency at OnlineMarketingHelp.net.

FLASH BRIEFINGS I LOVE 1. Word of the Day 2. Tech/business news: CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Cheddar, Daily Tech Headlines. The news sources I follow typically give me news I don’t always get on TV or radio. 3. General news: Just about every major news source has a Flash Briefing skill. 4. Digital marketing: Gary V 365. You can pick specific training in your industry. 5. Joke of the Day 34
