Unique. Historic. One-of-a-kind. Exclusive. Luxury. Iconic. Private. Lake front. As brightly as those terms glow, they are not close to describing The Lake Houses at Eagle Cove. Eagle Cove is not just a house in a gated, lakefront community, it is it's OWN gated community, nestled right up to the sparkling edge of Lake Washington. Three luxury single-family homes, a guest home, plus one monumental boat house. All right on the shore, with staggeringly 180 degree vistas from nearly every room in each house. As stunning as the history is long.

VICE PRESIDENT OF ONSTAGE HOME STAGING SHARES THE LATEST TRENDS ARTICLE JORDAN BLAINE PHOTOGRAPHY KARA MERCER

BEGINNING HER CAREER AS A DESIGNER IN PORTLAND, OREGON, WHITLEY WIRKKALA IS NOW VICE PRESIDENT AND PARTNER OF POWERFUL HOME STAGING COMPANY ONSTAGE. “Ever since I was a little girl I would lock myself in my room all weekend to rearrange, and no one could come in until it was finished,” Whitley says about growing up with a love for design. Turning her passion into her career, she joined arms with a unique company, OnStage, a design staging company that believes the biggest trend of all is a timeless look. “We are seeing a use of metals combined with wood, white linen to neutrals and floral to bring warmth,” Whitley says, explaining design trends we are seeing now. “You want to stay away from bright colors when you are trying to sell a home—use a light gray or neutral rug to soften a look,” she says. “Oversized furniture takes the feminine space and adds a touch of masculinity." Having created and staged many homes, Whitley explains her passion. “What I love about staging is how fast you see the transformation. When you finish placing accessories and hang the final piece of art, you take a step back, look at your creation and smile. I love seeing a room come to life.” “OnStage has locations in Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Boise, Idaho; and San Francisco.”

HOW TO ADD FLORAL TO YOUR SPACE 01 | Coordinate your floral choice with the space colors; it should be proportionate to its surroundings. Green gives neutral colors a simple pop of freshness. 02 | Use an appropriately sized vase for your arrangement. Think of it as the frame displaying the art. The vase should hold its place in the overall appearance of the centerpiece. 03 | The arrangement becomes the focal point. Make sure its placement lets it be admired!

GOODBYE CROP TOP

WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU AND HOW DO YOU THINK YOU IMPACT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY? Community starts in your own home, with your family and your neighbors. To be there for those you see on a daily basis is most important. If you do that, the outreach will follow. WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOU DO? That it is actually making a difference in women’s lives and they are finding as much of a need for it as I did. DO YOU HAVE A MANTRA OR MOTTO THAT YOU LIVE BY? I N T H E G A M E O F R E A L E S TAT E , IT'S LADIES FOR THE WIN

IT’S THE YEAR OF THE WOMAN AND THE BELLEVUE LIFESTYLE

IN THE GAME OF REAL ESTATE, IT’S LADIES FOR THE WIN! According to the 2017 Member Profile by the National Association of Realtors, 63 percent are women! "I'm inspired every day by the intelligence, strength, grit, ambition and class of the women that make up our Bellevue real estate market. These women are powerful!" Jeramy Poole, founder of Real Estate Social and host of "The Moment Live," says. Women are winning in top leadership. For the first time, a female leader has been ranked among real estate’s 10 most powerful leaders with Zillow Group Chief Operating Officer Amy Bohutinsky claiming the No. 10 spot. The National Association of Realtors has come a long way since its founding in 1908 when membership was entirely male. The first woman joined in 1910, but women were excluded from real estate boards, so they started the Women’s Council of Realtors in 1938. 44

Now, women are not only on the boards, but they are also running them. “In the past, being an entrepreneur and creating a business from the ground up was intimidating, especially in an industry dominated by men," Chelsie Andrea, president of the Women’s Council of Realtors, says. "At best, a woman’s role in real estate would have been as the decorator. "I have the privilege of being surrounded by talented, professional and articulate women who have taught me to stand firmly in my beliefs and create the kind of business I am proud of. I get to wake up and do what I love every day largely because of the women who have come before me, and for that, I am grateful.” Women bring a refreshing, noncompetitive approach to the real estate industry and are among the largest participants in mentor, mastermind groups and training. “My lifetime goal is to empower all girls and young women to reach for the impossible by dreaming big, by working hard and by being prepared when opportunity knocks," Jacqueline P. Nguyen, founder and broker of The One Real Estate Group Keller Williams Realty Bellevue, says. "My legacy will be the women’s lives I am able to inspire to greatness!” Female agents bring a holistic approach to serving their

clients by combining expert professional knowledge and skills with a commitment to providing a caring, supportive experience and creating the best possible outcome for their clients. "I think there are two things that make our clients successful and our team successful: people and culture," Barb Pexa, founder of Barb Pexa and Associates, says. "We are not in the house business; we are in the people business. We put people first. We have fantastic team culture, and I know that trickles down to our client's success." Women have a unique ability to see the energy in a home,

how the floor plan will be utilized, how the flow of the spaces will enhance their lives, and how the schools and community will create optimal learning and support life-long friendships. “Despite the challenges, being a woman in real estate today has its advantages, especially with female clients making most of the homebuying decisions," Mary Lee, founder of Mary Lee and Associates, says. Advancing women in the industry is an increasingly topof-mind issue. Industry leaders recognize good investment decisions, and today’s fast-paced and competitive marketplace requires diversity of thought and ideas drawn from a broader range of experiences and perspectives. “Successful women in real estate have an innate ability to connect with people and to sell and lead in a more heartfelt way,” Barb says.
