The Mount Gambier Senior Citizens Club has hosted its first intervlub visit with the Hume Sri Lankan Seniors Association spending February 8 and 9 in the Blue Lake City, enjoying a Saturyda evening event with the local club, as well as a farewell breakfast.“It was a really great weekend,� Mount Gambier Senior Citizens Club president Peter Ploenges said. “We shared a meal and then they danced and danced and danced - everyone had a great time� The Hume club had around 50 members as part of thier visiting contingent and a strong bond has now been formed between the two clubs. The two clubs kickstarted a relationship through facebook and the visiting group arrived late Saturday and was treated to a barbeque at the Mount Gambier headquarters that

night before backing up for a farewell breakfast on Sunday morning. “Some of Mount Gambier’s Sri Lankan community came to the barbeque and we just enjoyed having a chance to chat to the Melbourne visitors,� Mr Ploenges said. The James Street headquarters of the Mount Gambier Senior Citizens Club is still undergoing its redevelopment and the current membership iof around 80 is still keen for more people to get involved with the club. “We get together and have a good old chat,� Mr Ploenges said. “People can drop in anytime we are there to see what’s on offer. Indoor bowls is played Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons with a 1.30pm start for play, with a Saturday evening session from 7pm as well. The two card groups meet

on Thursdays from 1pm and Fridays from 12noon. The club also heads on a couple of day trips during the year, with Hamilton, Naracoorte and Portland all popular destinations, and with only $15 for membership, it is great value. YMCA SA Youth Parliament is a non-partisan program providing a platform for young people aged 15-25 to express their views on issues important to them, build leadership skills, gain parliamentary understanding and learn about democracy. It focuses on personal development, empowerment and connecting politicians and lifestyle1.net | 28

decision makers with youth.The Youth Parliament program runs from March to August every year and includes mentoring, a training weekend, a week long camp and access to Parliament House.To participate in Youth Parliament, there is no presumed knowledge - the program takes pride in educating participants about everything they will need to know for Residential Week, including our parliamentary system and debating tips.Rural and Regional Travel Scholarships are

also available which cover the costs of travel to and from Adelaide for the Training Weekend and Residential Week, as well as accommodation for Training Weekend (accommodation for Residential Week is covered in the cost of participating in the program).
