TO THE RESCUE: It’s game on for the Ardmona Cats in 2020. The club has enlisted the services of Shane Crawford (seen below in his playing days with Hawthorn) as coach. And as these images show, the former Hawk star has been out in the local community connecting with officials, fans, players and supporters.

It is looking to be a great year for Ardmona and also the club’s 100th year CLUB TREASURER TEISHA McCOY

Club treasurer Teisha McCoy said attracting Crawford, the 1999 Brownlow medallist and 305-game premiership star, was a game-changer. “Shane has mentioned before he has been watching Ardmona for a few years now and coming to games when he could, sitting in his car and just watching from afar,” McCoy said. “The club was going through a rough time financially. The day Shane phoned the club president to speak about coaching was the day after the club had been dealt the devastating news that we were suspended from the Kyabram District Football Netball League.

“The club executives were already preparing an appeal submission and Shane immediately wanted to help. I still have the image of us sitting at a round table in one of the first meetings to discuss how Shane could assist with the club if we were successful in our appeal. “Together we fronted an appeal panel, pleaded our case and overturned the suspension. There was no time to celebrate as we were straight into planning for the season. It is looking to be a great year for Ardmona and also the club’s 100th year. “Hopefully this virus doesn’t hold us down for too long, we’re roaring to go!” AFL.com.au     AFL RECORD  34
