Add your event

to the Local Events system

If you’re a local charity, group, club or society, then the Local Events system on our website is the ideal way to reach local people. 1

First of all, visit either www.retfordlifemagazine.com, www.worksoplife.com, www.gainsboroughlife.com or www.sherwoodlife.com and click on the ‘+Add your event!’ button on our Local Events calendar — you’ll find it on the left hand menu.

2

Next, start to fill in the details for your event; the name of the event, which area it is applicable to, the address of where it is taking place, what type of event it is (choose a category — if there isn’t one that best describes your event, choose ‘General’, email us and we’ll add a category for you), and who interested people should contact to find out more about it. Then you can use the details box to describe exactly what the event, meeting, course or class etc. is about. Next, if you have an image to promote your event — perhaps a club or society logo, or a photograph for instance — you can upload this too. Simply click ‘Browse’, locate the file on your computer and click ‘Upload’.

Next you can set the date(s) of when your event is happening…

Now you can set when your event is taking place. You need to fill in the ‘Start date’ and ‘End date’ times. Use the ‘No Repeat’ option if you want to just publicise one particular event day, or days. This way, you can tailor what you say in the ‘Details’ section to be very specific to that event. If your event is just for one day, you can skip straight to step 8 If your event is a festival that runs over several days for instance, choose the start and end dates as appropriate, and the start and end times with the ‘No Repeat’ option. If your event is a meeting, either weekly, fortnightly or monthly etc., set the ‘Start date’ and ‘End date’ to the first meeting you want to publicise e.g. 12-08-2011. Then set the start time and end time, remembering to set ‘am’ or ‘pm’. If you left it at this, your event would be posted to the calendar, but would only show up until the date of the event you chose. If your event or meeting happens more than once, say once a week, or every second Sunday of the month, you can set the ‘Repeat type’ option.

4

Choose ‘Daily’ if your meetings are running for a period of 1–7 days. You can use the ‘day(s) between each event/meeting’ box to set this. Then, choose either ‘Repeat Count’ e.g. setting ‘4’ if you have a set of 4 meetings coming up, or alternatively, choose ‘Repeat Until’ and select the day of the last meeting.

5

Choose ‘Weekly’ if your meetings or classes happen every 1-4 weeks. Again, you can set how many weeks lapse between your events and choose to repeat the event a number of times, or until the day of the last event, meeting or class. You can also use the ‘By Day’ function if your event happens on two or more days in a week — e.g. if you have two events or meetings on Wednesday and Friday, every 2 weeks, choose ‘2 week(s) between each event/meeting’ the number of repeats you want, and then tick Wednesday and Friday in the ‘By Day’ section.

If your event is monthly, choose the ‘Monthy’ option. Again, you can set how many months lapse between your events and choose to repeat the event a number of times, or until the day of the last event. If your event or meeting happens every month, e.g. the 15th of every month, you can use the ‘By Month Day’ option by typing ‘15’ into the box. If your event happens on more than one day of the month, say the 15th and 20th every month, type ‘15, 20’, or as many days as you need, separated by commas. Or alternatively, choose the ‘By Day’ option to specify which day of the week, in which week of the month your event occurs on every month. If your event was on every second Wednesday of the month, simply tick ‘W’ for Wednesday, and ‘week 2’.

7

If your event is yearly, choose the ‘Yearly’ option. Again, you can set how many years lapse between your events and choose to repeat the event a number of times, or until the day of the last event. Type in the ‘By Year Day’ section which day of the year (1-365) your event wil be on.

8

That’s you almost sorted now. You just need to fill in your name, telephone and email address. This information in this section won’t be published, but it means we’ll be able to get in touch if we need to check any details with you about the listing. Then, tick the ‘I agree to the terms and conditions’ box — click on ‘terms and conditions’ to read them — and press the ‘Submit’ button. Your event will be submitted to us, we’ll check to make sure everything is ok for you, and then add it to the calendar!
