visits Buchanan Castle Golf Club In February this year Buchanan Castle Golf Club became a member managed club when the members entered into a long term lease of the James Braid designed course and greenkeeping facilities with Montrose Estates. Tommy Gemmill the chairman of the new member owned company which entered the lease, spoke to Park Life.

‘This is the start of a new chapter for Buchanan Castle Golf Club where members interests will be paramount in the future development and investment we make in the course and related facilities and where any surplus we make will be ploughed back to enhance the golfing experience for members and visitors alike.’ The changed circumstances were overwhelmingly supported by existing members many of which contributed to a new fund to be used to support the ongoing development of the new club. Andy Steele the Club captain said ‘The new arrangements will allow us to build and develop the fantastic heritage we have at Buchanan Castle derived largely from the involvement of the Duke of Montrose and his father who engaged James Braid to design the course on the Montrose Estate parkland. The parkland and its mature trees together with the river Endrick and Connic hill make for a stunning backdrop to the slice of golfing paradise that is Buchanan Castle’. The new management team has plans to develop the golfing facilities and to market the course better. In the past the quality of the course and its environs was enough to attract both members and visitors alike but now there is more competition across a wide variety of activities. Buchanan Castle Golf Club has great facilities with the James Braid course as the centrepiece backed up by an academy course, which is ideal for beginners, a driving 22 | and www.parklifescotland.co.uk range a practice ground. There is also a pro shop which

offers lessons and club hire so we can support serious golfers, beginners (men and women) junior golfers and seniors as our course offers a serious golfing challenge but is built on relatively flat parkland.
