Hello, I’m Hydro Genie and I’m here to grant you three wishes...

Save up to half the cost of heating your home!

To make your home instantly warmer

To dramatically reduce your

heating bills To make your home more

Hydro Genie is the trading name of: Biskit Controls Ltd, Orchard Mill, Back Loan, Thornhill, Stirling, Scotland FK8 3QB Tel: 01786 850 375 Email: Web: 10 |

Biskit Controls Limited

Local business owner invents system to radically reduce heating bills With the cost of heating our homes every year a large chunk out of our incomes, are you wishing there was a way to enhance your existing heating boiler or heat pump and have a warmer home but cost you less. Then our local entrepreneur Mr Jim Bisset has the answer to your wishes. The owner of BisKit Controls Ltd based in Thornhill Stirling has invented a revolutionary new way to increase the heat from your radiators by up to 20%, stop the rusting inside your radiators, remove any existing dirt in the pipes and radiators, enhancing the heat transfer from your boiler to the heating fluid so your boiler gets up to temperature faster saving you money. The name of this innovation is Hydro

Genie and comes in a number of combinations to reduce the bills in any size of home or small office. Testing of the the system was carried out in conjunction with the Scottish Government funded Scottish Environmental Technologies Network (SETN) on a 3 bed house where a 49% reduction in gas consumed was recorded. So if you are wishing there was a way to reduce your Oil, LPG, Gas or Electric bills then the Hydro Genie System can grant your wishes. Jim said: “It struck me some years ago that if there was some way to implement “Henrys Law” and “Graham’s Law of Diffusion” into heating fluid, the transfer of heat to and from the fluid could lead to energy savings being made and a reduction in carbon emissions, so that’s how Hydro Genie Systems evolved into what we are able to offer clients to day, a retro fit system that can provide that next leap in boiler and heat pump efficiency for heating

homes and commercial buildings. Our systems are a cost effective alternative to renewable heating systems but can also enhance existing renewable heating systems”. BisKit Controls Ltd have approaching 200 systems installed and each install comes with a government granted 15% reduction on the full installation cost for everyone in the UK. With installers appointed across the UK and Eire, BisKit Controls Ltd have a healthy order book and continue to provide Warmer Homes for their growing number of clients who continue to provide them with positive feed back. The outlay on a Hydro Genie System is quickly recovered from the savings made in around 2 - 4 years depending on the fuel spend and comes with a 5 year parts warranty and a performance agreement. Domestic Hydro Genie Systems and their Commercial Heating and Cooling HydrO2 Systems, are both trading names of BisKit Controls Ltd.

Park Life Interview

with Scott MacColl of MacColl Landscaping incorporating P.D. Stokes Can you tell me about the new business you have taken over? The business MacColl Landscaping has taken over is PD Stokes. They are based at Dobbies Garden World Milngavie and were initially established in 1982. Paul Stokes has built up an exceptional reputation over the past 35 years for high quality garden design and construction. Paul contacted me three months ago about a potential buy out opportunity. I was very flattered that he approached MacColl Landscaping and feel that this is a reflection of the standard of work we as a team have

MacColl Landscaping have the knowledge and skill set to design and create beautiful spaces to cater for all of these reasons and many more. Over the years the garden has become an extension of the home and therefore making this environment somewhere our clients enjoy spending time in is what we strive to achieve. been completing over the past 10 years. We now as a company will build on our combined reputations and cement MacColl Landscaping Incorporating PD Stokes as one of the main private garden design and construction firms in central Scotland. We are excited and look forward to what lies ahead for all involved.

What is the secret to having that perfect garden?

Do you have a favourite job you like to undertake?

What plans do you have for the company in 2017?

I enjoy meeting new or existing clients and discussing with them what they would like to achieve in their garden. It is always interesting to identify the purpose they would like to use it for whether it be entertaining friends, an area to dine outside undercover (ensuring the Scottish weather doesn’t interrupt their downtime) or maybe a space for the children to play in a safe fun environment. We at

I am going to increase our online presence by updating websites and social media. I will continue to work on marketing the company aquiring some accreditaions within the landscaping industry. We will also build show gardens in a number of garden centres over the winter 2017. This will showcase to members of the public what is on offer from MacColl Landscaping Incorporating PD Stokes.

The right layout and a balance between being able to relax in the space without feeling every time you step out you need all your gardening tools to hand.

Moishe’s Bagel Sat 24th June 7.30-8pm “This fearless 5-piece emphatically puts the ‘class’ into ‘unclassifiable‘ “(The Scotsman) Moishe’s Bagel began in 2003, the lucky accident of an Edinburgh-based Chilean tango singer and four like-minded musicians. A shared love of klezmer, jazz and latin music soon saw them onstage at Henry’s Cellar Bar with a few tunes and a lot of enthusiasm. Since then, the band has regularly toured the UK, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, notching up sellout gigs at the Jazz Cafe, Sage Gateshead, St George’s Bristol, Edinburgh Queens Hall and many many more. Along the way, they have managed to record four CDs, earning them a Songlines Top of the World and Sunday Telegraph top 10 world albums. When someone in the family has a hearing loss the whole family has a hearing problem.

– Dr Mark Ross PHD If that someone is you... • It might just be that other family members get a bit irritated with you at having to repeat themselves.

• It could be that they miss sharing things with you, like a joke or a favourite TV programme.

• Or it could be that they’re worried about how withdrawn from them you have become

At Clements Hearing Services we have helped thousands of people with hearing loss and their families. We’ve been helping them since since 1996, and we can help you too using the most up to date hearing aid technology. The most important thing to us is to give you good service. You get to know us and we get to know you.

Park Life Interview

with Stuart McDonagh of SYKAM & Co Chartered Accountants What kind of businesses do you look after? I look after start-ups through to well-established businesses, locally and around Stirling and Glasgow. My clients range across all sectors including food and drink, innovative technology, construction and property. I love what I do because I see all kinds of businesses at different stages of their development, for example I have a technology company seeking over a million in investment at one end of the scale and a start-up food business with a

Are you starting, growing or just want to improve your business? Approachable, practical and pro-active accounting, tax and business service. Contact Stuart McDonagh FCA for a free initial consultation SYKAM & Co, Chartered Accountants, Balfron

few thousand in sales at the other. I offer clients whatever services they need, from start-up advice, year-end accounts, tax compliance and business planning, through to financial business consultancy, part time finance director services and anything in between. Because I work on a fixed fee basis there are no unexpected costs and I always start with a free no-obligation initial consultation.

What’s the biggest mistake businesses usually make? Planning is vital, to not do so can cause cash flow problems. This can affect start-ups, where growth is not as quick as expected, but also established businesses who are growing when cash can be tied up. I’m a believer in the old adage “turnover is vanity, profit is sanity, cash is king!”

Do you have any good advice for those of us running our own business? Yes lots! Three simple steps that I would advise are, firstly, think about what you want from your business and then set it out in a brief business plan so you know what you are aiming for. It doesn’t have to take much time but in my experience is extremely helpful to help focus on what’s important. Secondly, having some form of cash flow forecast will highlight potential problems and give you time to do something about them. Lastly, know exactly what your profit margins are and regularly review them so you don’t undervalue what you do. Many businesses grow their sales but not their profits ending up busier but making the same or sometimes less money than before. Identifying and then putting your effort into what is most profitable and really understanding your costs can make a huge difference in being a healthy and successful business.
