CHARTER SCHOOL ON CAMPUS LIFEHOUSE OF HOUSTON PARTNERS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS - UNIVERSITY CHARTER SCHOOL In 2008, leadership at LifeHouse of Houston had a big dream. It consisted of helping the residents in a long-term way that would pay big dividends for their future by providing a school on the campus. Due to various reasons, the dream quietly faded into the background, not yet ready to come to fruition. Fast forward to February of 2015. LifeHouse received an email from The University of Texas - University Charter School (UT-UCS) whose mission is to provide a personalized learning experience for students in need of alternative educational programs. They were interested in placing a school on the LifeHouse campus at little expense to the ministry. With great excitement, the staff and board went to work doing the necessary research to be sure it was the right fit. After various meetings and visiting with the appropriate folks from UT-UCS, it was deemed the school
would greatly enhance the experience of the LifeHouse resident and add immense value to the ministry. Beginning in August, the school will staff up to two teachers, four hours a day, and focus on credit restoration and progress toward a diploma. What makes UT-UCS unique is the opportunity for girls to receive specialized instruction tailored to their scholastic needs. Girls ages 12-26 will be eligible for enrollment and have the opportunity to continue classes beyond their stay with LifeHouse. The school will also be open to non-residents of LifeHouse through the LifeLine program. As stated by the wisest man that ever lived, King Solomon, “There is a time for everything. . . . The Lord Jesus saw fit that this year was the divinely appointed time for this seven-year-old dream to come true. Watch your inboxes for more information on the school!

HOUSING LifeHouse homes have been full of life this summer with visits by potential partners, a retreat, and necessary upgrades to the campus! We are so grateful to Manchester Carpet for installing much needed new carpet in several rooms of the homes at no cost to the ministry. Each time we look at the floor, we will be reminded of God’s goodness to LifeHouse. Also contributing to the fresh look is a new coat of paint in various rooms and a ramp built for the minor home in keeping up with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. We are excited for the residents and house parents to enjoy these upgrades. In addition to the improvements, we added

something even greater to our homes – new house parents! Through Grace Bible Church, Heather and Greg Lytle came to LifeHouse in May 2014 as respite houseparents and are now serving full time in the minor home. We love them already and are so excited to see how the Lord will
use them. Please pray with us for the Lytle family as they embark on this new journey. If you are interested in donating services for the homes or taking a tour, email Dawn at dawn.schauweker@ lifehousehouston.org.
LIFELINE, NON-RESIDENTIAL SERVICES
After graciously accepting an invitation from LifeHouse of Houston, Lana Sanders, author and founder of Beauty for Ashes Ministries International, led a two-day retreat at the campus called “Transformed by Grace”. It was a time for LifeHouse alumni, recent residents, and current residents to re-charge and refocus on their relationship with God, and for some, to come to know Him for the first time. Childcare was provided for alumni to be able to fully enjoy the retreat. Lana taught profoundly on our identity in Christ, forgiveness, restoration and healing. She also shared with the girls her own story regarding abortion, abuse, and how Jesus continues to heal her through teaching and mentoring women from similar backgrounds. By the end of the

retreat, not a dry eye could be found in the room as the heart of every LifeHouse girl, staff, and volunteer was immensely moved! Making the weekend even more special were volunteers from Apostolic Temple Church who worked hard to ensure everyone
was comfortable and well-fed with snacks and food throughout the weekend. LifeHouse looks forward to hosting a 2016 retreat and continuing to utilize this event as a way to keep in touch with LifeHouse alumni!
A CURRENT OR FORMER LIFEHOUSE RESIDENT
Sal-e receives her new computer from the Linda Sadler Memorial Fund
A young, bubbly girl named Sal-e was attending Sharpstown High School when she found out she was pregnant. “I thought it would be easy in the beginning, but I realized as time went by I would need more and more help,” Sal-e said. God knew and provided. Sal-e learned about LifeHouse through her mentor and has been living at the minisry since January. Her favorite memories so far are the family atmosphere that has taught her structure and
responsibility and the Fourth of July barbecue filled with fun and great food. Upon the birth of her baby boy, Sale-e plans to attain her high school diploma. She says that instead of being nervous or fearful, she is now ready to be a mom because of her time at LifeHouse. Join us in praying that Sal-e will have a smooth transition into motherhood and for her light to continue to shine to all she meets.
PREPARATION FOR POTENTIAL EXPANSION In 2008 the ministry was given the funds from some very generous donors to purchase the house next door and renovate it. This doubled our capacity to serve up to 12 girls at one time. Today, in 2015, the LifeHouse board of directors and staff are prayerfully considering another expansion for LifeHouse in order to keep up with increased needs. While doing research for the potential expansion, it was recommended by LifeHouse Advisory Board Members, Laura and William Wheless, to conduct a thorough internal analysis of the ministry by an organization called
Excellence in Giving (EIG) based out of Colorado. EIG is a fullservice philanthropic advisory firm designed to increase the joy of the high-capacity donor through a personalized process of discovery, evaluation, participation, and celebration. The Wheless’ and LifeHouse board member, Teri Andrews and her husband Ronnie, generously donated the money for the initiative. EIG took a “deep-dive” into LifeHouse programs, financials, marketing and development areas. They helped to identify key outcomes and indicators that will

help the ministry strategically plan for a potential future expansion. We are very grateful for the work done by EIG as the ministry will benefit greatly from the
wealth of information revealed. A big thanks to the Wheless’ and the Andrews for recommending, sponsoring, and supporting this beneficial analysis!
