Art Collectors If you are interested buying any of the art work in this issue, you may contact the gallery or individual artist.

As

the new year begins, the gallery also is beginning a new venture: a quarterly magazine. During this issue you will be introduced to many of our wonderful artists and read about upcoming Juried events and Art Exhibitions.

From the gallery’s inception in 2010, it has continued to grow and evolve into a beloved hub for local and international artists in beautiful Jupiter, Florida. The gallery proudly represents more than 20 artists ranging from mixed media to photography and sculptors to painters. The art represented is diverse, representing the best of the South Florida art world. You may learn more about each artist through the gallery website or through the artists’ personal websites. We invite you to reach out to them if you have any questions or ask for a private showing. Unlike other galleries, A Unique Art Gallery is a co-op that is funded directly by participating artists. On the second Wednesday of each month from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., the artists host an open house or exhibition of one or more of the artists. Many times each exhibition is connected with a charity so proceeds from art sales are shared with a local charity because giving back to the community is important to us. Plus, who can pass up an evening of art, mingling and complimentary drinks and appetizers?! Whether you are new to the area or are a longtime resident, we invite you to come by the gallery. We are open five days a week and would love the opportunity to share our art with you. On behalf of all the artists, we wish you Happy New Year!

I am an artist because to be anything else would be untrue. Through my art I hope to bring awareness to situations in the world which are not always so easy to talk about or even read about. I enjoy also taking themes from the past and working them in a new and exciting way, a way in which people have never seen before. When I create my art, I always see the images in all dimensions in my mind. Every piece takes hours of thoughtfulness and consideration so that the art can tell a story and give the viewer a journey through a world created in a single piece. Some concepts for work can be inspired from the weather or a song, and then the ideas flow easily. Other works are themes which can require days of research, and investigation of symbols, history and literature. When I first started seriously as an artist, I didn’t trust myself beyond a white sheet of paper and a black marker. I created my first works on the basis of my black and white checkered pattern. Over the years I discovered my love of colors and through much trial and error eventually developed the technique of “surreallations”. It is my own way of creating the illusion of depth and movement in a piece. All my works today are carefully developed using a variety of tools and different mediums in order to perfect this technique. However, in nearly every work I create you can still find the original black and white checkered pattern which was the seed from which my art has grown.

I am an artist best known for photography and digital art. I was originally born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. I moved to Florida in 1962 where I grew up in Fort Lauderdale. When I received my first camera a Polaroid swinger it opened a new world for me as a photographer. I used this camera until I finally wore it out. I have now been doing photography for over 30 years. The opportunity came for me to work and teach photography with some very popular photographers. Art has always been my first love though. Along came computers and digital photography which allowed me to put my photography and art together as one. Now a teacher of Digital Art I am able to help others express themselves through all kinds of Medias, whether it is oil, or watercolor, pastels or just drawings. My artwork comes in many different forms, It can be produced to fit your needs from small to very large and customized colors.

“Kira and the Bumble Bee”

“Humbled by the River” 24” x 26”

“Visions of Past and Present” 24 x 18”

While my roots are in oil painting, I’m a contemporary artist. Along the way I added photography, became a psychotherapist, evolved into a photo-therapist and now am deep into my recent discovery, digital painting; a discovery that has allowed me to combine many of the different mediums that I love. I developed and implemented a phototherapy program in the school system working with at-risk kids and became passionate about getting their amazing work displayed. Much of the time when I begin a painting I don’t have a completed idea. Color speaks the loudest for me and I let it take the lead until some sense of design emerges and then the relationship between the elements begins to form. It’s then that the story in me takes over. I’m an explorer and love to travel: in the world, in my inner scapes, and through my art. As in my life, so in my art, things appear; a wee bit strange, vibrant, magical and definitely divine, with lots of rough prickly edges to add rich texture. My home gallery is A Unique Art Gallery in Jupiter. I have been juried into numerous galleries in Palm Beach County, winning recognition and awards from renown people such as; Raymond Gehman a freelance photographer at National Geographic and Douglas Jencks an art appraiser, curator and manager of Wally Findley Gallery International. My paintings have shown in many South Florida galleries including the Palm Beach International Airport. * All artwork can be custom made to any size. * All can be processed on canvas or archival water color paper. * The transformations (“An Afternoon Together” and “Kira and the Bumble Bee”) are a cooperative - by using a customer’s photograph and transforming it into a piece of art.

I started my career in advertising; however my first love has always been painting, which I have done all my life. Fortunately certain events took place in my life; which have afforded me to pursue my painting full-time! My work has been hung in small gallery shows, also industry shows in Detroit. I am now painting full time here in Jupiter, where I grew up. If you like what you see, but have something else in mind; let’s get together and discuss what we can come up with. I prefer to work in concert with my clients. I will paint what you would like and have fun doing it. Having fun is always important to me while working together. Together we can create a custom work of art.

After years of painting representational art, I decided to Experiment with nonrepresentational art and suddenly I found my new passion. Non-representational art for me, became exceptionally freeing. I can alter the conception of reality using forms, shapes, textures, patterns, and colors. In other words I can express how “Spring” feels using this medium. My intention is to continue to explore and create within this venue. Professionally exhibiting art since 1998 in both New York and Florida in galleries, museums, businesses, airports, private homes and public buildings.

Recent awards and achievements: First Prize Blue Ribbon award for exhibit at the Lighthouse Art Center and Museum in Jupiter, Florida. Second Prize Red Ribbon for exhibit at the Palm Beach Gardens City Hall. Recently juried into the Boca Raton Museum Artists Guild as a Signature Member. Recently installed as a member of the National Association of American Pen Women.

My work has the common thread of color and light. I work with all mediums and styles. My mother was an artist and I have been involved with creating since my earliest days. I have a degree from FSU and The Art Institute of Ft Lauderdale. I have worked as a teacher. puppeteer and graphic designer. When I retired from the 9-5 work world I devoted all my energies to art. I have shown in galleries in the three county area and done commission work for private collections in 8 states. There is nothing I won’t paint. I’ve done walls inside and out, painted antique furniture and designed a glass wall for the West Boynton Beach Library. I bring art to what some call crafts and happily create art that has practical uses as well as for display only. Anything that can evoke an emotion through color is art in my book.

With each one of my paintings, I try to create work that represents the depth of life that brings the viewer to not necessarily think but wonder, question and feel. My aim is more an emotional than an intellectual response to the work I create. Trying to capture the very thing that connects us all is mystical, but is the essence of life itself. Growing up in a family of musicians, often music is part of my creative process. It helps me either calm or energize the energy within to achieve balance. Some of my recent achievements include: - Honorable mention for Painting and Other Category for “Paris Shanghai I” Light & Space Gallery 2012 - Honorable mention for Painting for “Storm” Light and Space Gallery 2011 - Elements of Art and Texture Still Point Gallery Jury selection 2012

I believe I was born an artist because of my attraction at an early age for forms, designs and color. In the parochial school where I studied, the nuns did their best to teach me pencil drawing, but creativity and imagination took over and expressed themselves all along during my academic studies. Out of practicality, after high school, I went to Pharmacy School with my artistic soul. During my pharmacy career, I took classes and participated in Juried shows and art exhibits whenever possible. I am actually very pleased to be a full-time artist, enjoying the climate and sceneries in the Sunshine State. Born in Haiti, I value color, mostly primary colors. I love bold colors with a mixture of light and shade to give it definition. My painting subjects are varied: fruits, flowers, landscapes, sceneries - they all please my eye and invite me to paint. In my backyard screened studio, I work mostly five days a week with enthusiasm, fun and stimulated by the nature around. I feel lucky to express my talent with no pressure and a lot of satisfaction.
