I read the story “That Lazy Ah Fun” in the book Shen the Sea by Arthur Bowie Chrisman. In the story there is a boy named Ah Fun and his dad is Dr.Chu Ping. He told Ah Fun to go get some water for dinner, but he so lazy that he went to the ditch and when they drank it Dr.Chu Ping got sick. He told Ah Fun to make a fire to keep him warm. But Ah Fun was too lazy to look for fire wood so he took his Father’s medicine tubes and threw one of them in the fire. But when Dr.Chu Ping got cold again he asked Ah Fun to fix the fire again so he got another medicine tube and threw it in. Then this went on until they got to what we call gun powder and when Ah Fun threw that in, it exploded and Dr.Chu Ping went through the roof of the house. And their neighbor was milking his cow but when he heard the big noise he ran for his life. His cow did too, but the cow did not come back. Their neighbor did. Finally all of the town came and was calling Ah Fun lazy but Dr.Chu Ping said no he’s not, he’s not. The Dr. was happy because he knew that his son invented gunpowder.
That Lazy Ah Fun
“That Lazy Ah Fun” from the book, Shen of the Sea, by Arthur Bowie Chrisman is a very funny little story. It made me giggle because the doctor’s son, Ah Fun, was so lazy. He didn’t bother to go outside and cut firewood to make his father warm when he was sick. So he looked around their house for wood. Then he found the tubes of medicine his father used. When he got to the last tube, it held huo yao, the substance we use today as gun powder. When he threw it into the fire, his father exploded through the roof, because the fire was underneath him. That was how gun powder was invented.
“That Lazy Ah Fun” In Shen of The Sea By Arthur Bowie Chrisman
In this book there are many stories. The one I read is a funny story of a little boy who invents gun powder. The name of this story is That lazy ah fun. In the story a doctor gets sick from being out in the cold helping people. He asks his lazy son to start a fire to warm him up. But the doctor doesn’t expect to actually to go up. As the lazy son sticks everything he can find in the house into the fire he accidently puts the doctors collection of medicines in the fire. One mixture just happened to be gun powder.
Baaannngg!!! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! What goes up must come down. In a cabbage patch! BUMP! Then the doctor had the best idea. This could be used to scare away the demons. So that is what he did he went back and got the medicine. That is how Ah fun discovered gunpowder.
