Uncle Wiggily’s Adventures A Note From the Publisher If you are not familiar with Uncle Wiggily stories, the following letter, which was found inside an old copy of the book, best explains their value. “Once upon a time when I was a little girl , this was my favorite story-telling time--to be read from Uncle Wiggly’s Adventures. My Aunt read it to me every night on Monday through Friday just before bedtime. I wish I had all those stories— there must have been hundreds, because she read new ones to me for years every summer and she had cut them out and kept them until I came up to see her when school was out for summer vacation each year. And what I liked best was that the characters in the stories had real personalities—and were very quaint and interesting and quite believable. Also they talked to each other a lot and had friendly conversations that taught me how to treat other people and how to think about some everyday problems and find answers sometimes. Old Uncle Wiggily was a very patient and friendly and wise Rabbit—a lot like my grandmother and also like my great-uncle. I hope you know people like that in your everyday life, too—since wise, loving rabbits are pretty hard to find.”
