CULTIVATE

FAITH FOLLOW GOD’S CALLING WHEREVER IT MAY LEAD.

LAW THAT’S DEEPLY ROOTED IN THE BIBLE WE TEACH that the Western legal tradition is firmly established

upon a foundation of faith. We believe the law is best learned within the context of the Christian intellectual tradition and the integration of faith and reason, with Scripture standing alongside revered documents such as Magna Carta, the Justinian Code, and the Mayflower Compact. A legal education at Liberty, with its emphasis on faith, learning, service, and the search for truth, brings a sense of empowerment that will last throughout your legal career.

FAITH THAT BUILDS CHARACTER WE BELIEVE the best lawyers possess both knowledge and character. We value the biblical foundations on which the concept of law was built and incorporate those Christian values into our program to teach students how to integrate faith and ethics into their pursuit of justice. Our students graduate with the skills that will help them succeed in multiple areas of law, and they distinguish themselves with their work ethic, compassion, and honesty.

24

“One can be sophisticated and believe in God. Reason and intellect are not to be laid aside where matters of religion are concerned.

BELIEFS THAT GUIDE US Prayer Mentoring We know that law school can be a challenge, academically and in other ways, so we commit to helping each and every student with this important transition through prayer mentoring. We want to ensure you are prayed for and with, loved, and discipled. Your mentor will reach out to you as soon as you arrive on campus, connecting you to a local church and giving you the spiritual support you need throughout your time at Liberty. We want to encourage you in your walk with the Lord so that your relationship with Him is stronger on the day of graduation than on the day you arrived at Liberty Law.

“ My time at Liberty Law was among the most pivotal of my life. I learned there that why you practice law —your motivation — is as important as how you practice law. Law practice is fundamentally about service — helping people with their most intimate problems in their most trying times. Liberty gave me not only the practical tools to succeed as an attorney, but also a grounding in faith that reminds me that practical, caring service is truly a higher calling.” TRIPP ISENHOUR Class of 2008, Attorney and Counselor at Law at Caskie & Frost

STUDENT ORIENTATION WE KNOW THE TRANSITION from undergraduate/graduate

studies, or another career, into law school can be difficult. To help you transition successfully, we’ve developed our Systematic Approach to Integrated Legal Studies (SAILS) program. This required orientation helps you with the challenges of adjusting to law school and its demands. During the SAILS program, you’ll hone your legal writing and reasoning skills and prepare to actively participate in class discussions. In addition, you’ll also learn the following: • Basic legal terms • Exam-taking strategies • How to draft case briefs • How to create case outlines Through the SAILS program, you’ll meet the faculty, get to know your classmates, and meet the mentors who will support you throughout your first year. Your orientation schedule includes sessions taught by our faculty and optional activities with your mentors. The schedule also leaves time to address housekeeping issues like purchasing books, getting your Flames Pass, contacting the university’s IT Help Desk, and registering your vehicle.

“ Liberty University School of Law takes a markedly different approach to the study of law than many other law schools. Of particular interest, we openly explore how conservative principles, capitalism, and Judeo-Christian values undergird the law’s foundation and liberty itself.” TORY L. LUCAS Associate Professor of Law
