A WORD FROM OUR DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

IAN McCAW Flames Nation,

This is a special time to be a Liberty Flame. We are enjoying an extraordinary level of success as we pursue our vision of Training Champions for Christ, providing a high quality student-athlete experience, and achieving victory with integrity. We are thankful first and foremost for the Lord’s blessing and favor to make this possible. We are also grateful for our Flames Club members who generously invest in Liberty Athletics. Our increased level of competition necessitates enhanced budgets and improved facilities, all of which require a shared sacrifice and commitment from all constituents. As we continue to aspire to reach new heights, we need all of Flames Nation to Rise With Us by making an annual commitment to Liberty Athletics. To those already contributing, I extend a heartfelt thank-you. To those considering joining our team, I strongly encourage you to start making a difference as a member of the Flames Club! Sincerely,

CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS SINCE 1979

BIG BLUE CLUB 1979-80

LBC SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION ASSOCIATION (SFA) 1980-83

The Flames Club completed its 15th year of record growth in 2019 as 1,709 members contributed $1,326,000 to the annual fund. Including legacy gifts for facility improvement and luxury suite contributions, Liberty Athletics Development received over $2.2 million in donations in 2019.

THE FLAMES CLUB MISSION The mission of the Flames Club is to raise financial support for Liberty University Athletics and ensure that our coaches and student-athletes have everything they need to compete at the championship level. With the ever-increasing cost of competing at the NCAA Division I FBS level, a dynamic booster club is critical to putting the strongest possible teams on the field. 4

TALON CLUB 1983-90

The Flames Club is directly linked to the success of Liberty University Athletics and is the channel through which Flames Nation (fans, ticket buyers, students, alumni, former student-athletes, parents, families, and local businesses) can participate in the success of the athletics program. Flames Club members enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that their gifts are more than monetary contributions — they are investments in the lives of our student-athletes. These gifts help to provide our student-athletes with the academic foundation, athletic discipline, and spiritual training needed to make an eternal impact in their post-Liberty careers. Flames Club members can also be rewarded with preferred parking, seating, and hospitality privileges (based upon membership level). Benefits may be declined for tax purposes (see your tax advisor).

JOIN OUR TEAM

MEMBERSHIP STARTS AT JUST $60 Contributions may be submitted to the Flames Club office by mail or online at LibertyFlamesClub.org. Payments may be made by cash, check, credit card, or stock transfer. They may be paid in a lump sum or on a monthly or quarterly basis, with the final balance due by Dec. 31. The Flames Club operates under Liberty University’s nonprofit 501(c)(3) status, but not all gifts are necessarily tax deductible. Under a recent federal tax law, effective Jan. 1, 2018, the portion of a contribution which qualifies a donor for seating privileges is no longer tax deductible. Gifts to the 2020 Flames Club annual fund qualify for membership privileges for the 2020 football, 2020-21 basketball, and 2021 baseball seasons, unless the donor waives those

The Flames Club was originally established as the Big Blue Club in 1979 under the direction of Head Football Coach Tom Dowling. Several name changes occurred before the Flames Club emerged in 2001:

privileges. Gifts to the Flames Club for which a donor elects to waive privileges also maintain the potential for tax deductibility. Please consult your tax advisor regarding how these options may affect your individual tax situation.

MATCHING GIFTS

INCREASE YOUR IMPACT Most large companies will match donations made by their employees to charitable organizations. If your company matches contributions, please forward matching paperwork to receive full recognition and benefit credit for the entire gift, including the matched portion. Contact the Flames Club for more information about matching gifts.

COMING IN 2021:

CHANGES TO THE FLAMES CLUB MEMBERSHIP LEVELS The current dollar contribution amounts associated with each Annual Fund membership level have been in place since 2013. After seven years, Liberty University’s enhanced commitment to building a program of national prominence and the growing cost of NCAA Division I athletics necessitates a periodic adjustment of those contribution amounts. Understanding that planning is important to those who desire to support our program, we would like to thank all members who have supported the Flames Club over the past six years and provide appropriate notice that the contribution amounts for 2021 will be as follows:

26

LETTERWINNERS ASSOCIATION EXCLUSIVELY FOR LIBERTY’S FORMER NCAA STUDENT-ATHLETES, COACHES, MANAGERS, STAFF, AND CHEERLEADERS.

All former members of the Athletics Department are encouraged to join the Letterwinners Association to support their former teams. Visit LibertyFlamesClub.org for full details.

LEGACY GIFTS AND NAMING RIGHTS

MORE WAYS TO

HELP

MEMBERSHIP REFERRALS The easiest way for current members to earn loyalty points and increase support for Liberty Athletics is to refer new members to the Flames Club. Everyone wins — the referring member earns points for seating and parking privileges, the new member enjoys participation in the Flames Club, and Liberty Athletics receives additional financial support. If every 2019 member refers just one new member for 2020, we will reach 3,500 members. For more information on referrals, please see the loyalty points section on Page 6.

All 20 NCAA Division I athletic teams at Liberty University have legacy gift needs beyond the Annual Fund campaign. Legacy gifts provide naming opportunities for the improvement of existing facilities or the construction of new ones. These gifts receive double loyalty points but do not count toward Flames Club Annual Fund membership levels. Gifts benefit the Athletics Capital Fund and may be pledged and paid over a period of up to five years. Since no tangible benefits are received outside of naming opportunities, legacy gifts may be considered 100% tax deductible (see your tax advisor).

MEN OF ARMOR FOOTBALL ALUMNI WEIGHT ROOM CAMPAIGN Liberty Football alumni and others are encouraged to support the $250,000 campaign to name the new weight room on the bottom floor of the renovated Liberty Football Center (LFC) in honor of the Men of Armor ministry. The evangelistic ministry of Liberty’s football and strength programs was started in the 1970s and continued into the 1990s. Donors can have something in the LFC named in their honor, and gifts begin at $2,000 to name a locker. The campaign was launched by a pledged dollar-for-dollar match of up to $125,000 by former Liberty football player Richard Osborne (’79).

Current legacy gift projects include the archway gates at Williams Stadium and the Men of Armor Alumni Weight Room in the Liberty Football Center. Interested parties should contact the Flames Club at (434) 582-CLUB or FlamesClub@liberty.edu.

DEFERRED GIVING Deferred gifts enable donors to support Liberty Athletics in a greater capacity than they may have thought possible, and some gifts can provide current income and/or tax benefits to the donor. Some of the deferred gift options include charitable gift annuities, will bequests, life insurance gifts, and various types of charitable trusts. Contact the Flames Club for more information on deferred gift options.

WILLIAMS STADIUM ARCHWAY GATE CAMPAIGN Special friends of Liberty Athletics have the opportunity to leave a permanent legacy at Williams Stadium by having one of 19 archway gates in the south colonnade named in their honor. For a gift of $50,000, donors can have their names, or the names of their loved ones they wish to honor or memorialize, carved into the concrete. There is also one opportunity to name the larger and more prominent Gate 1 for a gift of $500,000.
