Upon successful completion, students are prepared for graduate study or careers in business and industry.

Mission Statement The Department of Speech Communication and Theatre is one of ten units in the College of Liberal Arts. The Department promotes effectiveness in the communicative and performing arts as the key to all of our encounters and interactions. With this philosophy, the department is dedicated to preparing its students to become significant contributors to society. Our goals are achieved through critical/ analytical processes, performance, student organizations, co-curricular activities, and stateof-the-art facilities and equipment that enhance each student’s experience in the department and the university. The department is composed of two concentration areas of study: Speech Communication and Theatre.

Bachelor of Arts Theatre The concentration area of Theatre offers a well rounded curriculum of coursework and practical application, leading to the Bachelor of Arts Degree. Students gain practical experience through workshops, national conferences, and participation in three to four major productions per year. In addition, senior theatre majors are required to direct/design a projet that demostrates their knowledge of theatre.

Program Requirements Students entering the Speech Communication of Theatre program are required to fulfil certain requirements. For Speech Communication, students are expected to meet with the program coordinator, submit a current resume, and complete an Individual Communication Assessment (ICA). Applicants must contact the program coordinator to schedule an assessment. For Theatre, students must participate in an audition/interview with the program coordinator and submit a portfolio of material including an essay on a designated topic, a resume, and a head shot. Applicants must contact the program coordinator to schedule an assessment. A limited number of scholarships are also available for those who qualify.
