CALL TO PRAYER, A ‘SPIRITUAL TRANSACTION’ WITH GOD

Words

FROM RICK

C

harles Spurgeon once penned powerful words on prayer that should echo in our spirits today.

men, women, boys and girls across the United States and around the world are having spiritual transactions with the Lord Jesus Christ.

“True prayer is neither a mere mental exercise nor a vocal performance. It is far deeper than that. It is a spiritual transaction with the creator of Heaven and Earth.”

These transactions are not bargaining chips for future favors or simple phrases conducting a business deal, but rather words from the heart that transcend time, place and circumstances.

April second is the day I write this greeting, and as I write there is a calm assurance that

These prayerful words are lamentations, cries, declara-

tions, and reflections of God’s people asking Him to move according to His will. No malice or demands. Just prayer. “If my people who are called by my name shall pray...” Assignment accepted and spiritual transaction to follow. Would you join me in praying the Lord’s Prayer right now from Matthew 6? “Therefore, pray in this manner: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’” Thank you for praying. May God be with you, your family, friends, neighbors, and our world. STEPPING UP FOR OUR Y

ou’ll NEVER regret stepping up for God’s Kingdom!

I’m writing this today in the hope that others will join my wife and I, and the Light for the Lost team in stepping up. The past couple of months have been a reminder to my wife, Tara, and I about what is really important. Our son, our home, our marriage, and our walk with Christ are the top priorities. And something else: Our faithfulness to missionaries.

reacts, recoils, and cuts back due to the COVID-19 virus, Tara and I want to step up! And we want to invite you to do the same. The day of this writing, April 2, we gave an extra gift to each of the missionaries we support, and it felt GREAT! Any time you step up for God’s kingdom, it’ll feel that way. All over the world missionaries are facing extreme, and even desperate, situations. The COVID-19 virus has forced many of them into quarantine and isolation. Some have been infected and are fighting for their lives in hospitals.

Missionary Randy Tarr uses LFTL resources in Burkina Faso. We’ve made a point to make sure that missionaries to whom we’ve committed support are taken care of. God has always blessed us so we could support missionaries. Actually, we’ve done so since we were children. While the rest of the world financially

R MISSIONARIES

Missionary Devane McGee (retired) distributes solar-powered audio Bibles in Angola. Many are dealing with the intense, inconsolable pain of a broken heart as they watch hundreds of people to whom they’ve been called to minister suffer physically and emotionally. Even die.

And those missionaries aren’t backing down. They’re stepping up, too! Whenever and wherever possible in the midst of a world awash with uncertainty and fear, they point people to Christ. Please pray for them today! Remember to stand with our missionaries all over the world and the U.S. And then consider how you could step up for God’s kingdom. It’ll feel great, I promise.

WHAT CAN A MAN DO DURING THIS TIME? E very generation shares common experiences, music, heroes, TV shows, economics, and significant events that help shape lives and homes.

“HOW CAN YOU LEAD YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY IN THE MIDST OF THIS CHAOS?”

Fifth, show your family the importance of prayer. What your family needs now more than ever is connection to God for reassuring words of comfort in the midst of uncertainty.

Sixth, engage with Scripture as a family. Try memorizing a verse like Philippians 4:6-7 or Matthew 11:28-30 and discuss it together. Seventh, help your family practice gratitude. You can do this by focusing and being grateful for the things you have.

2020 has called us to face a health emergency called the Coronavirus pandemic. Sports competitions are on hold. People are wearing masks, hoarding toilet paper and hand sanitizer, working and finishing the school year from home, and enduring national lockdowns. How can you lead yourself and your family in the midst of this chaos? First, help your family acknowledge the emotions they have. Second, teach your family the importance of staying connected with others. Third, demonstrate the value of exercise and personal care (this helps greatly with anxiety and depression). Fourth, show your family how to choose joy. The daily routines of your family have been disrupted, so show your family how to enjoy this unexpected time together with lots of joy. Maybe you could do a weekly family game night or movie night?

Men, we are human and vulnerable during this challenging time. I encourage you to give yourself and your family the gift of turning to God for strength. Think about the times when other people have faced chaotic times and got through them. You can too! Dr. Jimmy White is director of discipleship for Men’s Ministries. M

en can build their knowledge about the Holy Spirit through a new digital resource called Targeted Discipleship Series: The Holy Spirit, a 30-lesson study for men on the person, function, and role of the Holy Spirit in daily life. The ultimate goal of this series is to help a man understand what the Holy Spirit and God’s Word says to him.

Holy Spirit, says. “It’s the first Targeted Series title, which takes important topics and helps men go through a structured process to zero in on biblical truths and apply them.” The Holy Spirit is free on the Men’s Ministries app and at www.men.ag.org.

Each lesson has four sections designed to provide a wide overview, bring the subject closer into focus, deepen the reader’s relationship with God, and finally put biblical truths into practice. “Pastors, men’s leaders, and any man wanting more of the Holy Spirit will benefit from this study,” Jimmy White, Men’s Discipleship Director, and author of The

FATHER’S DAY (JUNE 21) IS NATIONAL MEN’S MINISTRIES DAY

F

ather’s Day, June 21, is also National Men’s Ministries Day in the Assemblies of God. Normally we ask churches to do two things on this day. First, celebrate the many roles that discipled, missional men play in the life and ministry of the church. Second, emphasize and point more men towards Men’s Ministry. We realize some churches may not be able to meet in person yet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless, if you attend church in person or attend church via the Internet, remember to celebrate fathers, husbands, sons, and

grandfathers. Encourage every man you know to get involved in a men’s ministry or help start one in his church/community. Ministry to men matters!
