LEYRE JULIAN VILLENA Industrial Product Design Portfolio

ABOUT ME Hi! I’m Leyre, an Industrial Product Designer at Mondragon University, in the Basque Country. I’ve spent my last year at Howest University in Belgium with the Erasmus+ programme. I consider myself to be a perfectionist and demanding person with myself. I try to help my colleagues as much as possible and work hard until I get a good result. I am a positive and active person. I like to spend time doing things that I love, so I take advantage of every opportunity to learn and develop my skills. I prefer to work as a group, since this is how different perspectives and knowledge are shared, thus achieving better results. As for the design process, I like to focus on observation, empathy and analysis. Always having contact with the user and achieving a solution centred on this. Helping to facilitate their daily life.

ANALYSIS LIST OF DEMANDS:

The client is Sander, a 25 year old man who lost his left hand fingers on an accident. He used to mountain bike with his friend but after the accident he could not continue. Now, he would like to resume it. Sander chooses not to wear a prostheses on a daily basis, but he might wear one for special activities. While designing a solution is important to take into account that his hand is sensitive and he can not use too much strength.

G: Make mountain biking possible for Sander again. U: Sander Rommens. T: Hacking and prototyping.

PROBLEM

BENCHMARK

The lack of an object has been detected for storing and transporting the hairpins. With the aim of solving it, there have been several interviews with hairpins’ users to analyse how they solve the problem and identify what are the most important aspects to take into account.

FINAL CONCEPT ABS wall & container This part has two main functions. Firstly, is the separation between both parts of the container, allowing bigger products to be stored in the left side. The second function, is to storage the small plastic elastics inside. This part can be slided in and off, making it easier to clean and to take those elastics.

2 mm Polypropylene cards The cards are made of polypropylene since it is a waterproof material, soft and cheap. This is so since the product will be stored in the bathroom; hairpins should be placed on them easily and the price of the product should not be high. The small thickness, apart from facilitating the placement of the hairpins, also prevents them from enlarging and losing their function. These cards will be produced by laser cutting of polypropylene sheets.

ABS container The container is divided into two parts, separated by a wall and with different heights. In the lower part, you can see small projections, in which you can enter the cards. In this way, in this part the hairpins will be stored. In the other half, all the other products (such as tweezers, elastics, combs...) Will be stored.

Rubber case In the lower part of the product, a 0.86 mm silicone case can be seen. Although the function of this is mostly aesthetic, it also acts as an anti-slip.

-Social a spects positive design -Environment: eco-design-sustainability 2) It has to be focused in the chilling topic 3) It has to be in accordance to the company Wilde Westen, but also to the Bos Festival -Values -Philosophy -Aesthetic -Function In the same way, it has been decided to add the next one:

The final concept to develop:

4) The product must be innovative. -Attract user’s attention -Create curiosity 5) Define the aesthetic aspects of a product using the design methodology. DIFFICULT TO MAKE ALL PEOPLE ENJOY AND RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT

PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE AROUND PEOPLE DO NOT RESPECT NATURE

SKETCHING AND PROTOTYPING

DEVELOPMENT Focus on the stable prototype.

FIRST CONCEPT An stable product, with the correct shape that allows the user listen to the nature, and enjoy it’s music in the chilling zone. It has to be easy to assemble and disassemble for the stuff and intuitive to use. The aesthetic must be in accordance to the one of the festival.

MARKET ANALYSIS AND POSITIONING

USER When defining the user, in this case it has been important to take into account two aspects. On the one hand, the user will be the child, but on the other, the person who will decide whether to buy it or not are the parents. Therefore, defining both has been essential.
