Note In response to any question arising about the reason for describing this short suite of pieces as ‘deceptive’, the answer is simply that the ‘Aria’ is not an aria, the ‘Dance’ is not a dance (at least, not easily danced), the ‘Elegy’, while arguably elegiac, is neither a poem nor a lament for the dead. The ‘March’, similarly, is not a march.
