Een compacte voetgangersvriendelijke stad is het devies van Brent Toderian. Met straten en pleinen die uitnodigen tot bewegen én verblijf, een stad die op ooghoogte prettig is en de zintuigen streelt. Dat doe je door strategisch, op aantrekkelijke plekken in het centrum, terrassen, cafés, bankjes, microparkjes, speelplekken en andere vormen van ‘pedestrian parking’ toe te voegen. ‘Sticky Places’ noemt hij dat. In Groningen zijn er wel ‘plakplekken’, maar nog lang niet genoeg naar zijn zin. En zoals gezegd: de geparkeerde fiets staat vaak in de weg. Werk aan de winkel voor Groningen. Let’s Gro welcomed four special guestspeakers in the ‘Spiegeltent’ on the Vismarkt in 2015. Brent Toderian, Gil Peñalosa, Francine Houben and Adjiedj Bakas spoke about (national and international) urban trends and developments. Below we have listed a few of these, including their significance for Groningen. ADJIEDJ BAKAS Adjiedj Bakas is the trendwatcher of the Netherlands. Original, out of the box and often controversial, Bakas is not afraid to share his opinions. According to Bakas Groningen needs to brush up on its German language skills, as the large German market offers Groningen many opportunities. Not speaking the language could be costing us 8 billion euro per year. Let‘s Gro is already one step ahead with a three day Intensivkurs Deutsch, where we practice the Fachtreffen with our friends from Oldenburg and Hamburg. At the pop-up embassy for OL and HB we will start on the framework soon. Also in the context of Gastfreundschaft the knowledge of the German language really is a must for business­ es, restaurants and cafés, and other service providers. Not only is it pleasant for the (6000+) German speaking students, but it is also a necessity for the hospitality towards German speaking tourists. According to Bakas, international Tourism will become an increasingly more important source of income for
