OLD WAVERLY GOLF CLUB, WEST POINT

Golf travelers have made Mississippi one of the most popular Southern destinations, coming back year after year rather than looking for a new locale. Maybe it’s the desire to play both traditional course layouts and signature celebrity golf designs. Maybe it’s the delicious and various culinary options served with genuine hospitality. Maybe it’s the thriving nightlife and the opportunity to experience the Birthplace of America’s Music. Whatever the reason, Mississippi truly has it all. Fun times off the course are a specialty in Mississippi. Casino gaming resorts provide high-energy entertainment and sportsbook; music trails boast of the state’s musical heritage; and inland rivers and the Gulf of Mexico provide boating, fishing and other watersports opportunities. A wide variety of restaurants also serve up unique experiences. Mississippi golf courses, lodging properties, restaurants and museums have strict protocols to keep visitors safe and confident. With year-round golfing weather, the golf courses and resorts throughout Mississippi can accommodate the needs and budgets of all types of golf travelers. Within this guide, we present specific golf packages from our partners that can be customized to help you create just the right golf vacation for your group.

A NOTE ABOUT THE REGIONS... Taking advantage of the natural lay of the land, there are five distinct regions in the state. The Delta Region is the birthplace of the blues and offers rich expanses of open flatlands. The Hills Region lives up to its name, with gently rolling landscapes and stunning scenery. In the Capital/River Region, waterways wind through a richly historic part of the state. The Pines Region, located in the eastern part of the state, is blanketed with quiet forests, providing a stunning backdrop for all golfers. The sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico and beautiful beaches are just some of the highlights of the Coastal Region. Each region is color coded within the pages of this guide for ease of use. Mississippi’s entertainment landscape is much like the golf scene. Exciting and varied, it reflects regional influences. Mississippi has been instrumental in the birth, growth and popularity of musical genres such as blues, country and rock ’n’ roll, thanks to its most famous musical son, Elvis Presley. These musical styles are truly Mississippi made and reflected in the Mississippi Blues Trail and Country Music Trail. The song lyrics tell the story, while the beats, rhythms and melodies reflect the state’s diverse heritage. As one of the largest casino destinations in the country, Mississippi offers gaming and sportsbook opportunities throughout the state. Celebrity entertainers, gourmet dining, luxury accommodations, spas and many more amenities turn Mississippi's gaming resorts into memorable, fun-filled vacations, family reunions, and of course, golf trips. Beyond the music and entertainment in Mississippi, there’s unbeatable dining. Mississippi's culinary heritage has something to please every palate, with offerings that include locally farmed catfish, tamales, fresh Gulf seafood, gourmet burgers, sweet potato fries, grass-fed beef, and sweet tea. The Magnolia State is home to James Beard award-winning chefs and noted national food writers. Food and entertainment are a big part of the draw to Mississippi. Although golfers may initially come for our challenging courses, they come back for the taste of our Southern cuisine, the fun of our world-class gaming and the intrigue of our deep, musical roots.

The foothills of the Appalachians reach into the northeast corner of Mississippi, creating the highest elevations in the state in the Hills Region. The rolling countryside makes for challenging courses. The beautiful vistas provide a scenic backdrop, making the golf courses in the region as unique as the topography. The area also is singular in its contribution to the explosive growth of rock ’n’ roll as a musical genre, as the birthplace of Mississippi’s most famous musical legend, Elvis Presley. North Mississippi has always been a great value destination for golf groups. Its close proximity to the Midwest make it so convenient. South of Memphis, Southaven and Olive Branch are a great hub to enjoy area casinos and nightlife; Holly Springs offers a unique stay and play option; and the college town of Oxford is eager to show off its Southern hospitality.
