" I love the simple wonder and joy of children as they discover their world around them." Keith and Lesley have been married for 29 years. Together they have raised four children; those children are 29-21. Today they are emptynesters. They have small a dog. They live in a smoke free bungalow in Kitchener, Ontario. Lesley worked as a home daycare provider for 19 years before returning to college to earn her ECE Diploma in 2012. Lesley has worked in the ECE field as an ECE in a Co-Operative Preschool for two years. Lesley also worked at KW Habilitation, one of the resource agencies with the Region of Waterloo, as Enhanced Staff. She worked with Autistic children in the centre, to find a way of inclusion within the space. She utilizes the skills of nursery rhymes, storytelling, and felt board songs each day within her program. Lesley loves working with families and children within her community. She is a Reiki Master, Red Tent Facilitator, and she is a Certified Doula. She runs a doula collective with 5 staff members. Lesley's heart is in social sevices and she values our community as a whole, she is accepting of all religions, cultures, social economics and GLBT accepting. Lesley is a strong educator, who utilizes the theories of Gardeners Multiple Intelligence within her classes. Lesley utilizes a combination of Theory, Visual, and Movement activities to assist her students in bringing the learning into practice. Personal Philosophy: It is my belief that children learn best with "Play" as the medium; where they learn by exploring their development of social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical skills. I think it is fundamental to have hope and faith that all children can learn through a rainbow of experiences. I feel that ALL children are capable of steering learning opportunities and enter into care with prior knowledge. Moreover, I believe that ALL children and families deserve the best of care. It is my highest expectation and my personal goal to assist the families and the community in which I live to become an inclusive place where all children can flourish. Child Care and Early Years Act: “Duty to disclose if not licensed 12. (1) Any person who does not hold a licence shall, before providing child care in a circumstance described in paragraph 2 or 4 of subsection 6 (3), or, if relevant, in subsection 6 (4), disclose to the parent of the child, in a manner that may be prescribed, that the person does not hold a licence. Duty to retain record of disclosure (2) A person who makes a disclosure in accordance with subsection (1) shall retain a record of the disclosure in a prescribed manner for at least the prescribed time period, or if no time period is pre-scribed, for at least two years from the date the disclosure is made.” According to the Law, Lesley is acknowledging that she is a regulated home childcare provider. Contracted under the Region of Waterloo, Home Childcare, as of November 1st, 2018.

Education, Quality Matters and Redirection Beliefs: Lesley is a graduate from Conestoga College in the Early Childhood Educator Program. She graduated with a GPA of 3.83 in April 2012. Redefining Early Learning and Care for the Early Years. She graduated with a GPA of 3.75 Spring 2013. Lesley took the first term of Social Services, she successfully passed: Developmental Psychology, Sociology I, Social Service Systems I, Social Work And The Law, and Group Process And Dynamics. Quality Matters 1) Vulnerable Sector Check, on the entire family 2) Family and Children Service Check, on the entire family 3) TB Testing, on the entire family 4) Up to date vaccinations, on the entire family 5) Valid First Aid and CPR 6) Reaching In Reaching Out 1 and 2, (two 6 hour day weekend courses) 7) Redefining Early Learning and Care, (a 30 hours course run by Conestoga College and The Region of Waterloo) 8) ABC Workplace Safety Course 9) WHMIS. Lesley utilizes the High Scope Philosophy of Redirection with the 6 Steps for Problem-Solving: This is achieved through love, consistency, and firmness. The home childcare does not use Time Out or Removal of Privileges, instead the concept of Time In, where the provider will position herself into the situation. 1) Approach calmly, stopping any hurtful actions 2) Acknowledge the children's feelings 3) Gather information 4) Restate the problem 5) Ask for ideas for solutions and choose one together 6) Be prepared to give follow-up support As a Last Resort when a child's behavior is continually upsetting or dangerous to the provider or others, communication will be started with the parents. If the problems cannot be resolved, arrangements will have to be made for the child to go elsewhere for care. The ultimate goal is to have a healthy home like environment where all the children within its umbrella are safe and secure. Please remember this is also OUR home and if your child is purposefully destroying items you may be asked for help in recovering those costs; even though the Faery Home Childcare is insured with a Home Daycare Rider.

Faery Childcare is an unique program: we explore in the forest or nature as much as possible. So please expect your child to get messy. We have Singing and Signing here on a weekly basis and we travel to play groups weekly. Additionally, Faery Childcare has an assist who comes and helps out.  This allows us to participate in activities that would be a little harder for one adult to manage with 5 children in care. She, like any adult within the program have their police checks done, and her first aid.

“If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life, as an unfailing antidote magainst the boredom and disenchantment of later years, the sterile preoccupation with things artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength.” — Rachel Carson, “The Sense of Wonder”
