Hello and Welcome. Leominster Festival has chosen the theme ‘PAINT THE TOWN’, this gives us loads of scope to think about the beauty of Leominster and how we can all celebrate it. 2017 marks the 33rd festival and there is something for everyone in the programme. From active walks in the surrounding countryside to high quality music provided by the famous Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, you will enjoy a colourful week in Leominster. Once again there will be input from local artists, authors and musicians, including some dedicated art workshops at The Priory by talented local illustrator Iain Welch. One of the many highlights is the free family fun day, which takes place at The Grange on Saturday 10 June. Come along with the family and spend the day with Fetch Theatre and take part in the big draw. A big thank you to all of the supporters and our headline sponsor Cotswold Hereford MINI. Baroque Dancing Steps

DIOCESE OF HEREFORDSHIRE ORGANIST TRAINING SCHEME

LION BALLROOM Monday 5 June 7pm Tickets £10, Under 18 £5

Steve Player and Hilary Norris will lead a dance workshop for all musicians interested in improving their understanding and performance of music. Discover the relationship between dance and the music of your favourite composers. The popular dances of the seventeenth century form the foundations of much of classical music. What were these dances and how can their most important elements be incoporated into our playing and listening? During the workshop, participants will learn the steps which give individual dances their character. Dances such as the Minuet, Courante, Sarabande and Passacaglia all have their own identity and with their music they express the philosophy of the age. This workshop should help all musicians, of any level, to breathe new life into their performances with enhanced understanding and enjoyment. Participants are invited to bring any questions or samples of music to discuss. Please wear suitable shoes if you would like to dance. You Came Back is a moving account of the lives and experiences of a young British Soldier who joined the 4th Lincolnshire Regiment in 1940 and a nurse in Holland during the Second World War. Percy Cartwright was stationed in Iceland in 1942, then crossed the channel after D-Day, survived the brutal fighting in Normandy and joined the allied forces that liberated Holland. Nies Rutgers had seen her country invaded and occupied by the German army. She and her family sheltered Jewish children threatened with deportation while the hospital in which she worked was a secret centre for local resistance organisations. The two met in 1945 and their romance, which started in the heady days following the liberation of Arnhem, led to the marriage that lasted 65 years – a happy outcome from a terrible war. WALK
