Milí čitatelia,

dostáva sa vám do ruky úplne prvé číslo nového letiskového magazínu BRATISLAVA AIRPORT MAGAZINE. Bude vás sprevádzať počas čakania na odlet z Letiska M. R. Štefánika aj na ceste do vašej destinácie. Ďakujeme, že lietate z BTS a využívate pravidelné linky leteckých dopravcov z Bratislavy. Práve vďaka vám opäť aj v roku 2019 prekročíme magickú hranicu dvoch miliónov vybavených cestujúcich. Od vzniku letiska v roku 1951 sa za 68 rokov podarilo 2-miliónovú hranicu cestujúcich ročne prekročiť len štyrikrát. Tento rok predpokladáme vybavenie druhého najvyššieho počtu cestujúcich v celej histórii letiska! Kam od nás najčastejšie lietate? Londýn, Dublin, Kyjev, Moskva sú dlhodobo najvyužívanejšími celoročnými destináciami z Bra­tislavy.

V lete najviac dominujú lety do tureckej Antalye.

S prechodom na zimný čas začal od konca októbra platiť zimný letový poriadok pre roky 2019/2020, ktorý platí do konca marca 2020. Počas neho môžete využiť z Bratislavy 29 pravidelných liniek do 27 rôznych destinácií. Do Londýna a Kyjeva si môžete vybrať z cenovej ponuky dvoch leteckých dopravcov a letov na dve rôzne letiská. Úplnou novinkou sú lety do ukrajinskej Odesy. Lietať sa bude aj do Alghera na Sardínii, pričom toto spojenie Ryanair zabezpečoval len v dovolenkovej sezóne. Avšak linku na Sardíniu bude tento rok prevádzkovať aj počas jesene a zimy.

Viac o pravidelných letových linkách zimného poriadku si prečítate na ďalších stranách magazínu.

Novinku má tiež ruský dopravca Pobeda — bude spájať hlavné mesto Slovenska s hlavným mestom Ruska letecky až 7 × týždenne. Počas chladnej zimy letmi do slnečného Dubaja poteší flydubai, ktorý navyše ponúka i prestupné lety na atraktívne Maledivy, do Ománu, Thajska či Zanzibaru. Cestovné kancelárie pre vás pripravili cez zimu lety do egyptskej Hurghady a Ománu. Poriadna dávka exotiky začne vo februári 2020, keď sa spustia lety z Bratislavy až do africkej Gambie.

Welcome to the first issue of the new BRATISLAVA AIRPORT MAGAZINE. It will keep you company while you are waiting for your departure from M. R. Štefánik Airport or on your way to your chosen destination. Thank you for flying from BTS and using the regular flights from Bratislava. It’s thanks to you that again in 2019 we will exceed the magic two million passengers handled milestone. Since the airport began in 1951, i.e. over the last 68 years, it has managed to handle more than 2 million passengers a year only four times. In addition, this year we expect to handle the second highest number of passengers in the entire history of the airport! Where do you fly most often with us? London, Dublin, Kyiv and Moscow have long been the most popular destinations from Bratislava all year round. In summer, flights to Antalya in Turkey are the most frequent.

The winter timetable for 2019/2020 is valid from the end of October with the changeover to winter time. It is valid until the end of March 2020. During this period, you can use 29 regular flights from Bratislava to 27 different destinations, with diffe­ re­nt offers to London and Kyiv available from two different airlines going to two different airports in each city.

Something completely new is the flights to the Ukraine’s Odessa. There will also be flights to Alghero in Sardinia, which had previously only been connected to Bratislava by Ryanair during the summer holiday season. However, the route to Sardinia will continue to run through autumn and winter.

The Russian carrier Pobeda will newly link the Slovak and Russian capitals with flights to Moscow 7 times a week. During the cold winter you will be pleased by flights to sunny Dubai from flydubai, which also offers transfer flights to attractive locations like the Maldives, Oman, Thailand or Zanzibar. For the winter, travel agencies have prepared regular flights to Hurghada in Egypt, and real exotic location is planned for beginning of February 2020, flights will begin from Bratislava to Gambia.

10 NAJČASTEJŠÍCH CHÝB PRED ODLETOM

Akýkoľvek let sa môže skončiť ešte pred samotným odletom. Cestujúci by si mal preto dávať pozor na týchto 10 chýb, aby mu bol odlet umožnený.

1. NEPLATNÝ CESTOVNÝ PAS

Neraz sa stane, že cestujúci zistí až pri vybavení na check-in pulte, že jeho pas už stratil platnosť. V tom prípade cestujúcemu nie je umožnený odlet. Samozrejme, platí to pri krajinách, kde sa pas vyžaduje.

Rovnaký problém však môže nastať aj pri občianskych preukazoch. Preto si vždy skontrolujte platnosť dokladov totožnosti.

Zatiaľ čo dospelý môže cestovať v rámci EÚ aj na občiansky preukaz, každé dieťa pri ceste do zahraničia musí byť držiteľom platného cestovného pasu. Deťom mladším ako 6 rokov sa cestovný pas vydáva s platnosťou na 2 roky.

2. NEDOSTATOČNÁ DĹŽKA

PLATNOSTI PASU

Pre vstup do niektorých krajín nestačí len platný pas, ale aj dostatočne dlhá platnosť pasu, i niekoľko mesiacov po prílete do krajiny. Ak cestujúci nemá dostatočne dlho platný pas, rovnako mu nie je umožnený odlet. Napríklad pre južný Cyprus stačí platnosť pasu počas pobytu, pre severný Cyprus pri letoch cez Turecko musí byť platnosť pasu aspoň 150 dní a Egypt vyžaduje platnosť pasu aspoň 6 mesiacov po prílete do krajiny.

Je potrebné skontrolovať aj platnosť pasu detí.

3. STRATENÝ A ZNOVU

NÁJDENÝ PAS

Ak ste svoj pas nevedeli dlho nájsť, nahlásili stratu na polícii a vybavili si nový, no svoj pôvodný cestovný pas ste medzičasom našli, už naň neodletíte. Takýto pas je považovaný za neplatný. Pri odlete preto použite už svoj nový cestovný pas.

4. ZBALENIE SA DO SPOLOČNEJ BATOŽINY

Každý cestujúci sa musí spravidla pobaliť do vlastnej batožiny. Aj dopravca Smartwings, ktorý doposiaľ povoľoval pri spoločnom cestovaní rodín združovanie hmotností batožín, zmenil v roku 2019 svoje pravidlá prepravy batožín a sčítavanie hmotností kufrov už neumožňuje. Ak sa rodina zbalí do jedného spoločného kufra so sčítanou hmotnosťou dvoch menších batožín, dopravca si bude účtovať dodatočný poplatok.

5. RÔZNE PRIEZVISKÁ ŽENY PRED SVADBOU A PO NEJ

Mladomanželia radi letia na svoje svadobné cesty. Ženy si musia dať pozor na to, že ich priezvisko musí byť rovnaké na letenke ako na cestovnom doklade — občianskom preukaze či pase. Ak sa priezviská jednej osoby rôznia, stráca nárok

na odlet. Ak teda žena odchádza na dovolenku ihneď po svadbe a nemá ešte vybavený občiansky preukaz či pas na nové priezvisko, treba pri kúpe letenky nahlásiť dievčenské priezvisko.

6. CHÝBAJÚCE POTVRDENIA OD LEKÁRA

Letecké spoločnosti vyžadujú v prípade tehotenstva ženy a pri zdravotných komplikáciách, potvrdenie od lekára nie staršie ako 6, 7, 10 či 14 dní. Lekárske potvrdenie o zdravotnom stave cestujúceho musí byť na predpísanom formulári leteckej spoločnosti, ktorou cestujúci letí, tzv.

Travel Clearance form, Fit to fly, MEDIF (Medical Information Form). Obvykle náj­dete tento formulár na webovej stránke leteckej spoločnosti, v sekcii Prepravné podmienky. V prípade, že cestujúci nemá potvrdenie od lekára na predpísanom formulári požadovanom leteckou spoločnosťou, nemusí byť pripustený na odlet.

Potvrdenie o zdravotnom stave musí mať cestujúci pri sebe pri vybavení na check-in pulte a počas celej doby letu.

Lekárske potvrdenie sa odporúča ukázať na bezpečnostnej kontrole v prípade, že má cestujúci v tele voperovaný kovový predmet, kardiostimulátor, potrebuje inzulínové perá… Potvrdenie by malo byť v slovenskom aj anglickom jazyku, nemusí byť úradne overené.

7. NEPOČÚVANIE

LETISKOVÝCH HLÁSENÍ

Konkrétne mená cestujúcich na dostavenie sa na odlet sa spravidla nevyhlasujú.

Nespoliehajte sa preto na to, že vás na nástup na let vyzvú menovite letiskovým rozhlasom. Je na zodpovednosti každého cestujúceho, aby sa na nástup dostavil včas. Sledujte preto na informačných tabuliach stav vášho letu. Zároveň pozor4

bezpečnostnou kontrolou, pri odletoch do krajín mimo EÚ aj hraničnou/pasovou kontrolou, si vyžaduje určitý čas. Ak príde cestujúci na letisko neskôr, nemusí mať dostatok času na absolvovanie všetkých nevyhnutných úkonov.

Nástup na odlet sa začína približne 45 až 50 minút pred odletom lietadla, cestujúci sú naň vyzvaní letiskovým rozhlasom. Nástupná brána sa však uzatvára spravidla 30 či 20 minút pred odletom, a nie až v čase samotného odletu lietadla.

Ak sa cestujúci dostaví na nástup neskoro, stráca nárok na odlet a nemá nárok na vrátenie ceny letenky ani na náhradný let.

9. POSILNENIE SA ALKOHOLOM PRED ODLETOM

ne počúvajte každé hlásenie letiskového rozhlasu týkajúce sa vášho letu. Ak sa koná nástup, tzv. boarding, ihneď sa dostavte k nástupnej bráne, ideálne už 45 minút pred samotným odletom.

8. NESKORÝ PRÍCHOD

Cestujúcim sa odporúča, aby sa na letisko dostavili 2 hodiny pred odletom.

Vybavenie na check-in pulte, prechod

Ak zamestnanci letiska spozorujú pasažiera pod vplyvom alkoholu, či inej návykovej látky, alebo je agresívny, takému cestujúcemu nie je umožnený odlet.

Nemá nárok ani na vrátenie ceny letenky či náhradný let.

detské hračkárske zbrane — vodné pištole, ale aj tenisové rakety. Ak nemáte na letisku príbuzného, ktorému by ste predmet podali, na bezpečnostnej kontrole ho odovzdáte, a to bez možnosti vyzdvihnúť si ho dodatočne.

Do príručnej batožiny môžete zbaliť tekutiny, pasty, gély, spreje len v objeme do 100 ml alebo 100 gramov, uzatvorené v plastovom ZIPP vrecku s max. kapacitou 1 liter. Sem patria aj potraviny pastovej povahy — bryndza, treska, nátierky, paštéty, maslo a iné.

Ak chcete prepravovať tekutiny vo väčšom objeme, musíte ich umiestniť do podanej batožiny.

Letisko M. R. Štefánika v Bratislave vybaví ročne približne 27 000 letov a spolu s leteckými spoločnosťami robí všetko pre bezpečné, pohodlné lety a spokojný odlet do želanej destinácie. Uľahčiť to môže aj každý jeden cestujúci.

10. ZAKÁZANÉ PREDMETY V PRÍRUČNEJ BATOŽINE

Medzi predmety, ktoré cestujúci nemôže mať v príručnej batožine, patria rôzne napodobeniny zbraní, granátov, nábojov (v tvare prívesku na krk alebo na opasok),

Any trip by air may end before you have even departed. That’s why every passenger should therefore take care not to make these 10 mistakes that can stop them from flying.

1. INVALID PASSPORT

It often happens that the passenger only realises at the check-in counter that their passport has already expired. In this case, the passenger is not allowed to depart. Of course, this is true of countries where a passport is required, but the same problem may occur even with identity cards. Therefore, always check the validity of your identity documents.

While an adult can travel within the EU with an identity card, every child when travelling abroad must hold a valid

passport. For children under 6 years of age, a passport is issued with a validity of two years.

2. INSUFFICIENT TIME LEFT

ON PASSPORT

For entry to some countries, a valid passport is not enough, but there needs to be sufficient validity on the passport, sometimes for several months after arrival in the country. If the passenger does not have a passport valid for long enough, they are not allowed to depart. For exam­ ple, for southern Cyprus it is sufficient for

the passport to be valid for the duration of the stay. For Northern Cyprus, for flights through Turkey, the validity of the passport must be at least 150 days and Egypt requires the passport to be valid for at least six months after arrival in the country.

It is also necessary to check the vali­ dity of children’s passports.

3. PASSPORT LOST AND FOUND AGAIN

20 minutes before departure, and not at the actual departure time of the aircraft.

If the passenger arrives late for boarding, they lose the right to departure and are not entitled to a refund of their tickets, or to an alternative flight.

9. MISUSING ALCOHOL

BEFORE DEPARTURE

If airport employees observe that a passenger is under the influence of alcohol or other addictive substances or is aggressive, such a passenger is not allowed to depart. They are not entitled to a refund of their tickets or an alternative flight.

10. PROHIBITED ARTICLES

have got a new one but in the meantime, you have found your original one, you can’t fly on it anymore. Such a passport is considered invalid. You must fly on your new passport.

4. PACKING INTO A SHARED CASE

Every passenger must, as a rule, pack their own luggage. Even Smartwings, which previously allowed travelling fami­ lies to pool the weight of their luggage, changed their rules for transporting luggage in 2019 and it no longer counts the weight of luggage in aggregate. If a fami­ly packs everything into one shared case relying on averaging with two bags weighing less, the carrier will charge an additional fee.

5. DIFFERENT SURNAMES OF

A WOMAN BEFORE AND AFTER MARRIAGE

For newlyweds flying on their honeymoon. Women should be aware that their names must be the same on the ticket as on the travel document — passport or identity card. If the surname of one person differs, they lose the right to departure. So, if a woman is going on holiday immediately after her wedding, and has not got an ID card or passport in her new name, it is necessary when buying tickets to use her maiden name.

6. NO DOCTOR’S CONFIRMATION

Airlines require, in the case of a pregnant woman, and in the case of medical complications, a certificate from a doctor not older than 6, 7, 10 or 14 days. The medical certificate for the passenger must be on the particular airline’s prescribed form, and is called Travel Clearance Form, Fit to Fly or MEDIFIT (Medical Information Form). You can usually find this form on 6

the website of the airline, in the Conditions of Carriage section. If the passenger does not have a certificate from a doctor on the form required by the airline, they may not be allowed to depart.

The passenger must have their medical confirmation with them at check-in and throughout the flight. It is recommended to show the medical certificate at the security check if the passenger has a metal object implanted in their body, needs insulin pens and so on. The confirmation should be in Slovak and English languages and does not have to be officially notarised.

7. NOT LISTENING TO AIRPORT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Specifically, the names of passengers for departure are generally not announced.

Do not rely on being called by name over the airport announcement system. It is the responsibility of each passenger to arrive for boarding on time. So, watch the status of your flight on the information boards. Also listen carefully to each message on the airport announcement system about your flight. If boarding is taking place, immediately go to the boarding gate, ideally 45 minutes before the actual departure.

8. LATE ARRIVAL

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport two hours before departure.

Checking in, going through security and border / passport control when flying to countries outside the EU all takes time. If passengers come to the airport later, they may not have sufficient time to perform all necessary actions.

Boarding begins about 45 - 50 minu­ tes before the departure of the aircraft, and passengers are called to it over the airport announcement system. The boar­ ding gate closes, however, generally 30 or

If you do not have a relative at the airport to hand the item to, you hand it over at security without the possibility of getting it back later.

In your hand luggage you can have liquids, pastes, gels and sprays only with a volume up to 100 ml or 100 grams, sealed in a plastic zip bag with a maximum capacity of 1 litre. This includes paste-type foods — soft sheep cheese, fish salads, spreads, pâtés, butter and more.

If you want to carry a larger volume of liquids, they must be placed in checked baggage.

Po letnej dovolenkovej sezóne 2019 prichádza na rad bilancovanie. Júl aj august tohto roka nás na Letisku M. R. Štefánika príjemne prekvapili.

2. NAJSILNEJŠÍ JÚL V HISTÓRII

Júl sa stal druhým najsilnejším mesiacom v histórii nášho letiska. Uskutočnilo sa spolu 3 372 letov a vybavilo sa 331 133 cestujúcich, čo je druhý najvyšší počet cestujúcich v júli od vzniku letiska.

Tristo tisícovú hranicu pasažierov sa pritom doposiaľ podarilo prekročiť v júli na letisku v celej 68-ročnej histórii len po štvrtý raz.

TOP DESTINÁCIE

Počas prvého mesiaca letných prázdnin sa stala najvyhľadávanejšou destináciou turecká Antalya. Nasledovali lety do Lon-

dýna, dovolenkové destinácie Burgas v Bulharsku, Hurghada v Egypte, a prvú päťku top destinácií v júli uzatvára írsky Dublin.

300 TISÍC CESTUJÚCICH POKORENÝCH

Počas druhého letného mesiaca — augusta — naším letiskom prešlo 326 250 cestujúcich. Je to 2. najvyšší augustový výsledok počtu cestujúcich na prílete a odlete v celej histórii letiska. Hranicu 300 tisíc cestujúcich sa podarilo v auguste za celých 68 rokov existencie letiska prekonať len vlani, a tento rok opäť.

BILANCOVANIE ÔSMICH MESIACOV

V auguste sa uskutočnilo 3 315 letov, od začiatku roka do konca augusta dokopy 19 770 odletov a pristátí. Počet cestujúcich počas prvých ôsmich mesiacov roka spolu vzrástol na 1 602 135 pasažierov, čo je približne o 10 tisíc cestujúcich viac ako vlani v rovnakom období.

Najviac ľudí cestovalo do destinácií Londýn, Antalya, Dublin, Kyjev či Moskva a z nich. Našim cestujúcim ďakujeme za prejavenú dôveru a veríme, že si svoju leteckú linku nájdu aj v zimnej sezóne.

After the summer holiday season of 2019, it’s time to sum things up. July and August of this year pleasantly surprised us at M. R. Štefánik Airport.

THE 2ND STRONGEST JULY IN HISTORY

July was the second strongest month in the history of out airport. A total of

3 372 flights and 331 133 passengers were handled, the second highest number of passengers in July since the airport was opened.

It was only the fourth time in 68 year history of the airport that more than 300 000 passengers had been handled in a month.

TOP DESTINATION

During the first month of the summer holidays the most popular destination was Antalya in Turkey. It was followed by flights to London, the holiday resorts of Burgas in Bulgaria, Hurghada in Egypt, the top five for July was completed by Dublin in Ireland.

WE HANDLED 300 000 PASSENGERS AGAIN

During August, the second month of the summer holidays, our airport was used by 326 250 passengers. This was the 2nd highest August result for passenger ar-

rivals and departures in the history of the airport. In the 68 years our airport has been operating, the 300 000 mark for number of passengers handled had been exceeded only one other time, the previous year, and now this year again.

SUMMING UP EIGHT MONTHS

In August there were 3 315 flights, from the start of the year to the end of August a total of 19 770 flights departed and arrived. The number of passengers over the first eight months has grown to 1 602 135 passengers, which is approximately 10 000 more than the same period last year.

The highest numbers of people were travelling to and from London, Antalya, Dublin, Kyiv or Moscow. We thank our passengers for their trust in us and we believe they will find the flights they want in the winter season too.

Rovnako bude dopravca počas zimy zabezpečovať aj pravidelnú linku do Eindhovenu v Holandsku, v pondelky a piatky. Od 27. októbra Ryanair ponúka aj priame lety do Izraela — do Eilatu. Novinkou sú lety na nové letisko Ramon, ktoré bolo otvorené v januári 2019 a od centra Eilatu je vzdialené len 15 minút jazdy.

V ponuke letov Ryanairu ostávajú počas zimy aj linky na Cyprus (Pafos), Maltu, do Grécka (Atény, Solún/Thessaloniki), Francúzska (Paríž-Beauvais), na Ukrajinu (Kyjev-Boryspiľ), do Talianska (Bologna, Rím-Ciampino, Miláno-Bergamo), Belgicka (Brusel-Charleroi), Írska (Dublin), Srbska (Niš) a Veľkej Británie (Londýn-Stansted, Leeds-Bradford, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham). THE WINTER TIMETABLE BRINGS 3 NEW FLIGHTS TO UKRAINE AND SARDINIA en

9 FLIGHTS PER WEEK TO UKRAINE

From M. R. Štefánik Airport, passengers can choose from 3 regular flights to Ukraine. From 3 November 2019, Kyiv and Lviv will be joined by the black sea port of Odessa, which will be served by Wizz Air. The new route should be twice per week — on Wednesday and Sunday.

Wizz Air’s 2019/2020 timetable offers passengers 6 regular flights from Bratislava. Apart from the new flight to Odessa there are regular connections to the capital Kyiv 4 times per week to Kyiv-Zhuliany Airport. Flights to Lviv in the west of Ukraine have been increased over the Christmas period to 3 flights per week.

Apart from Ukraine, Wizz Air organi­ zes regular flights to London-Luton (4 times per week, and 5 times per week over the Christmas and New Year period), to Skopje in North Macedonia and Sofia in Bulgaria (both 3 times per week rising to 4 times per week over the Christmas and New Year period).

After the successful charter season, change awaits us in the form of the winter timetable for 2019/2020.

It is valid from the end of October until the end of March 2020. What’s new and what destinations can we look forward to?

Similarly, the carrier will also provide a regular service to Eindhoven, the Net­herlands, on Mondays and Fridays du­r ing the winter. From 27 October, Ryanair is also offering direct flights to Eilat in Israel. TO SARDINIA AND THE NEW RAMON AIRPORT IN ISRAEL

During the summer holiday season, many passengers made use of the connection between Bratislava and Alghero — a town on the island of Sardinia in Italy.

Ryanair has decided to provide a direct regular service from M. R. Štefánik Airport to Alghero during the winter too, having so far only operated during summer. The flight will operate twice a week — on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Pri leteckej preprave je často najväčším problémom to, ako sa zbaliť do príručnej batožiny alebo neprešvihnúť hmotnosť palubnej batožiny. Občas však cestujúci potrebujú prepraviť aj batožinu, ktorú nie je možné zbaliť do kufra. Čo s ňou?

„Ak potrebuje cestujúci na dovolenku prepraviť väčšie predmety, ktoré sa nezmestia do podanej batožiny, podá ich pri check-in pulte s nápisom Nadrozmerná batožina. Tie sa potom prepravia v nákladnom priestore lietadla. Prepravu takýchto predmetov treba nahlásiť leteckej spoločnosti vopred, ideálne pri rezervácii letenky, a zaplatiť za ňu poplatok podľa cenníka leteckej spoločnosti, ak 1 kus športovej potreby neprepravuje spoločnosť bezplatne,“ vysvetlila Veronika Ševčíková, hovorkyňa Letiska M. R. Štefánika. Za nadrozmernú batožinu sa považujú športové potreby a hudobné nástroje.

PREPRAVA ŠPORTOVÝCH POTRIEB

Ide o rôzne športové náčinie — veľké rybárske prúty, golfové palice, bicykle do hmotnosti 30 kg, skútre, bejzbalové pálky, hokejky, biliardové tága, šermiarske potreby, latky na skok o žrdi, surfy, bodyboardy, skateboardy, snowboardy, lyže a lyžiarky, akékoľvek príslušenstvo k stanom, kolobežky, profesionálny potápačský výstroj, windsurfingové vybavenie, kiteboardy, padák, paraglider, kajak. Tie-

to športové potreby nie je možné vziať na palubu lietadla.

Pri preprave bicyklov musia byť zabalené v ochrannom obale či vreci, mať vyfúknuté kolesá, zložené pedále a riadidlá otočené súbežne s kostrou bicykla. Preprava elektrických bicyklov nie je možná.

PREPRAVA HUDOBNÝCH NÁSTROJOV

Pri preprave hudobných nástrojov je dôležitá veľkosť a hmotnosť nástroja. Gitaru, klarinet, husle, violu či violončelo, ktoré by sa inak nezmestili do príručnej batožiny, môžete vziať spravidla na palubu lietadla. Nástroj musí byť zabalený v ochrannom obale, nepresahovať hmotnosť 20 kg a mať rezervované vlastné extra sedadlo. Ideálne je, ak si toto sedadlo zarezervujete už pri kúpe letenky.

Ak sa musia prepraviť väčšie hudobné nástroje, ako sú bicie, basa, harfa, prepravia sa v nákladnom batožinovom priestore. Na letisku sa odovzdávajú pri check-in pulte Nadrozmerná batožina.

Nástroje by mali byť označené menom, priezviskom a adresou cestujúceho. Aj za takto prepravené nástroje si letecká spoločnosť účtuje poplatok, pričom si môže stanoviť hmotnostný limit a pri jeho prekročení žiadať doplatok. Rovnako si spoločnosti stanovujú aj rozmerové maximum na výšku, šírku či hĺbku nástroja.

Slovákom ani žiadnemu fanúšikovi lyžovania ju netreba predstavovať. Sympatická zjazdová lyžiarka, tvár značky Rossignol, je prvou slovenskou majsterskou sveta v obrovskom slalome. Z majstrovstviev sveta v roku 2019 si Petra Vlhová odniesla celú trojfarebnú škálu medailí. Pred štartom novej sezóny si našla priestor na rozhovor.

Kto a kedy Vás priviedol k lyžovaniu?

Lyžujem už od troch rokov, k tomuto športu ma priviedli rodičia. Lyžovali sme spoločne ako rodina a bavilo ma to. Veľký podiel na tom, že lyžujem, má aj fakt, že sme mali v Jasnej bufet, tým pádom som bola stále na kopci. Navyše, som z Liptova — lyžovanie skrátka patrí k nám.

Teraz Vás čaká nová sezóna, aké máte ambície? Áno, nová sezóna sa blíži. Ja osobne nemám hneď priamo očakávania. Prekonať minulú sezónu bude určite veľmi ťažké a náročné, preto sa budem snažiť dávať zo seba maximum a uvidíme, čo to prinesie.

Kedy ste začali vnímať lyžovanie ako profesionálny šport, ktorému sa chcete venovať?

Na svoje prvé preteky som nastúpila, keď som mala asi 5 alebo 6 rokov, vtedy som sa však len tešila, že môžem pretekať.

Vyhrala som, súťažila som v ďalších pretekoch a tak to nejako išlo samo. Až keď som začala súťažiť v juniorskej kategórii, uvedomila som si, že je to s mojím lyžovaním trošku vážnejšie.

„Keď lyžujem len tak pre seba, napĺňa ma ten pocit, keď idem dole svahom v rýchlosti, je to adrenalín, ktorý mám rada.“

Čo Vás na lyžovaní najviac baví?

To, že som vonku, na horách. Keď lyžujem len tak pre seba, napĺňa ma ten pocit, keď idem dole svahom v rýchlosti, je to adrenalín, ktorý mám rada. Samozrejme, pri tréningoch je už moje lyžovanie o čosi iné.

Máte za sebou výbornú sezónu. Čomu pripisujete svoj úspech?

Mnoho ľudí vidí len tie úspechy, no za nimi stálo veľmi veľa práce. Makala a makám na sebe celý život, je to množstvo tréningov, odriekania, veľakrát som sa musela zaťať, pretože vždy prichádzajú momenty, ktoré vás odrádzajú. Ak vás však to, čo robíte, baví, tak to prehryziete a idete ďalej za svojím cieľom. A keď človek maká, tak tie výsledky prídu.

A ako ste sa na sezónu 2019/2020 pripravovali?

Moja príprava je najmä o kondícii, veľa času trávim v posilňovni, aby som si posilnila svalstvo, a chodím lyžovať na ľa-

dovce. To všetko sa snažím v správnej miere striedať. Letné obdobie bolo veľmi dôležité z hľadiska naberania kondície, ktorú využijem v tejto zimnej sezóne.

Máte nejakú métu alebo cieľ, ktorý by ste v kariére radi dosiahli?

Samozrejme, ciele sú stále a sú aj také, ktoré by som ešte chcela dosiahnuť. Snažím sa na sebe jednoducho makať a verím, že čo má prísť, tak to príde. Verím, že tie najväčšie úspechy ma ešte len čakajú.

Koho vnímate ako svoju najväčšiu konkurenciu?

Tak jednoznačne Mikaelu Shiffrinovú, ale na pretekoch sú aj ďalšie baby, ktoré sú silné. Každá sezóna je iná, uvidíme, čo prinesie táto. Vždy príde niekto nový a mladší, preto to vnímam tak, že každá baba je pre mňa súper a konkurencia.

A kto je pre Vás, naopak, vzorom?

Nemám nejaký jeden vzor, skôr sa snažím zobrať si to dobré od každého dobrého pretekára a využiť to, aby som si pomohla.

Máte aj vy dni, kedy nemáte dosť síl a nevládzete? Áno, aj také dni sú. Vtedy to však treba len prekonať a zaťať zuby. Mňa vtedy mo-

Ktorý z doposiaľ získaných titulov si vážite najviac?

Asi to budú získané medaily z majstrovstiev sveta z minulej sezóny. Každý lepší výsledok, nielen výhru, si však pamätám, pretože viem, čo za ním stálo.

Nad čím premýšľate pred pretekom?

V skutočnosti nad ničím. Snažím sa mať vypnutú hlavu a sústrediť sa maximálne len na daný výkon, ktorý chcem dosiahnuť.

Kto je Vašou najväčšou oporou?

Určite rodina, keďže stojí za mnou odmalička, je to môj tím. Najviac z nich to je asi môj brat, ktorý je so mnou stále aj na pretekoch, ako taký veľký brat.

Vnímate podporu svojich rodákov?

Vnímam, to určite, ale snažím sa ju veľmi neriešiť. Počas leta je toho záujmu o mňa menej, ale počas sezóny sa zväčší. Teší ma, že sa o mňa Slováci zaujímajú a som šťastná, že mám toľko fanúšikov. Všetko však má svoje výhody aj nevýhody. Snažím sa preto chrániť si svoje súkromie, čo je niekedy ťažšie.

Akým športom sa venujete, ak si chcete oddýchnuť od lyžovania?

Venujem sa množstvu športov, napríklad ma baví tenis či futbal, v zime sa však ve-

nujem len lyžovaniu. Veľmi rada mám aj jazdu na motorke, kde sa mi asi páči rovnaký adrenalín, aký cítim pri lyžovaní.

Ako vyzerá Váš deň počas lyžiarskej sezóny pred pretekom?

Záleží na tom, či mám v daný deň preteky. Vtedy vstávam skoro ráno a na izbu sa vraciam po celom dni až podvečer, je pre-

Ak mám normálny tréningový deň, doobeda som na lyžiach, poobede mám ľahší kondičný tréning, videorozbor a nejakú regeneráciu, napríklad masáž. Toto je taký môj večný kolobeh.

A ako vyzerá Váš deň, ak máte voľno?

Keď mám voľno, som šťastná, že mám pokoj a nemusím nič robiť, keďže inokedy mám všetko organizované a mám naplánované aktivity. Počas voľna vypínam a snažím sa nič nerobiť, keď je voľno, tak je voľno. Život profesionálneho športovca je spojený aj s cestovaním, ako to vnímate vy?

Cestujeme veľmi veľa, ale vždy sa snažíme nájsť najkratšiu možnú cestu, keďže

mi reálne cestovanie na preteky zaberie veľmi veľa času.

Vplýva cestovanie na Váš výkon?

Jasné. Keď človek celý deň cestuje, na druhý deň je unavený aj má stuhnuté nohy… to sa potom ukáže.

Navštívili ste nejaké miesto, ktoré Vás oslovilo tak, že by ste sa doň vrátili?

Ja som skôr taký typ, že keď som už niekde bola a videla to tam, tak chcem vidieť niečo iné. Po minulej sezóne som bola na Srí Lanke a bola pekná, ale teraz by som radšej šla niekam inam.

A možno aj viete kam? Úprimne, nemám nejakú takú vysnívanú destináciu, ktorú by som chcela navštíviť, že toto je môj sen. Ale chcem určite veľa cestovať a pochodiť veľa miest. Mám však rada more a lákajú ma aj Spojené štáty americké.

Aktívne sa zapájate aj do popularizácie lyžovania u detí. Prečo je podľa Vás dôležité, aby deti lyžovali?

Myslím, že to je základ — aby deti mali nejaký vzor a aby sa hlavne hýbali. Je pritom jedno, či to bude lyžovanie alebo niečo iné, len nech športujú a stanovia si aj nejaké ciele. Som šťastná, že môžem byť deťom dobrým vzorom a pomôcť ich motivovať.

Posledná otázka je o Vašom súkromí. Prezradili by ste nám, kde ste sa spoznali s Michalom Kyselicom?

Pýta sa ma na to veľa ľudí, no my si to chceme nechať pre seba. To je to súkromie, ktoré si stále strážim a aj chcem naďalej strážiť.

For Slovaks or for any fan of skiing, she needs no introduction. This pleasant downhill skier is the face of the Rossignol brand and the first Slovak world champion in giant slalom. Petra Vlhová took home a full set of the gold, silver and bronze medals from the 2019 world championships. Before the start of the new season she found time for a chat.

Who brought you into skiing and when?

I’ve been skiing since I was three years old. My parents got me into this sport. We skied together as a family and I enjoyed it. A large part of my skiing is down to the fact that we had a snack bar in Jasna, so I was always on the mountain. In addition, I’m from Liptov, so skiing is part of who we are.

When did you start to see skiing as a professional sport that you want to do?

I did my first race when I was about 5 or 6 years old, but then I was just pleased to be able to race. I won it and competed in other races and so it somehow came along by itself. Only when I started to compete in the junior category did I realize that my skiing was getting a little more serious.

What do you most enjoy about skiing?

The fact that I’m out on the mountains.

When I ski just for myself, I really love the feeling when I go down the slope at speed. I like the adrenaline. Of course, in training my skiing is a little different.

You‘ve had a great season. What do you attribute your success to?

Many people see only the successes but a lot of work lies behind them. I worked hard for myself all my life, the amount of training, self-denial, many times I had to grit my teeth. There will always be mo-

ments that discourage you. But if you’re doing what you enjoy, you get through it and make further progress towards your goals. And when you work hard, the results come.

Which of the titles you have won do you value most?

Probably the medals I won at the world championship last season. But I remember every good result, not only the wins, because I know what it took.

What do you think about before the race?

Actually nothing. I try to have my head turned off and focus to the maximum just on the performance I want to achieve.

Now you have the new season ahead of you, what are your ambitions?

Yes, the new season is approaching. I personally don’t have direct expectations.

Topping last season will certainly be very difficult and demanding, so I will try to give the most I can from myself and see what it brings.

And how have you been preparing for the 2019/2020 season?

My preparation has particularly been fitness based. I spend a lot of time in the gym, so I strengthen my muscles and I go skiing on the glaciers. I try to rotate all that to the correct degree. The summer has been very important for gaining the fitness I will use in the winter.

Do you have any target or goal that you would like to achieve in your career?

Of course, there are always goals and there are still some I’d like to achieve.

I try to work hard on myself and I believe that what is meant to come will come.

I believe that my greatest successes still lie ahead of me.

Who do you see as your biggest competition?

So, clearly Mikaela Shiffrin, but at the races there are other girls who are also strong. Every season is different, we’ll see what this one brings. There is always someone new and younger, so I see every girl as an opponent and a rival to me.

And on the other hand, who do you see as a role model?

I do not have a particular role model, rather I try to take what’s good from every good skier and use it to help myself.

Do you also have days when you do not have enough strength and you can’t manage?

Yes, there are days like that too. But then I have to get through it and grit my teeth.

I get motivated then by my achievements and emotions — I remember why I do it, so I’m reminded that every result is something difficult. You just need to hold on through days like that and it gets better.

Who is your biggest support?

My family for sure, because they have been behind me since childhood; they are my team. Most of all my brother, who is always with me even at the races as my big brother.

Do you feel support from your compatriots?

I feel it for sure, but I try not to think about it too much. During the summer there’s less interest in me, and during the season it increases. I am pleased that the Slovaks are interested in me and I’m happy to have so many fans. However, everything has its advantages and disadvantages. I therefore strive to protect my privacy, which is sometimes difficult.

What sport do you do if you want a break from skiing?

I do a lot of sports, for example I enjoy tennis and football, but in the winter I only do skiing seriously. I also really like ri­ding a motorcycle, probably because of the same adrenaline I get from skiing.

What does your day look like during the skiing season before a race?

It depends on whether I have a race on the given day. In that case I get up early in the morning and don’t come back to the room until early evening. It’s difficult then, if I have races two days in succession. If it’s a normal training day, in the morning I go skiing, in the afternoon I do lighter resistance training, video-analysis and some regeneration such as a massage. That’s what my eternal cycle is like.

Does travel affect your performance?

Clearly. When a person travels all day, the next day they are tired and have stiff legs… that will show.

Have you ever visited a place that appealed to you so much that you wanted to go back?

I’m more the sort of person who, when I’ve already been somewhere and saw it, I want to see something else. After last season I was in Sri Lanka and it was nice, but now I’d rather go somewhere else.

And maybe you know where?

Honestly, there isn’t somewhere I’d like to visit that I could describe as my dream destination. But I definitely want to tra­ vel a lot and visit many places. However, I like the sea and I’m attracted to the United States.

And what is your day like if you have time off?

When I have time off, I’m lucky to have peace and not to have to do anything, because sometimes I have everything organized and I have planned activities. During free time I turn off and try not to do anything. When I have free time it’s free.

You are actively engaged in popularizing skiing with children. Why is it important for you for children to ski?

I think it’s essential for children to have a role model and for them to be active. It doesn’t matter whether it’s skiing, or anything else; just as long as they do sports and also set some goals. I am happy that I can be a good role model for children and help to motivate them.

The life of a professional athlete is also associated with travel, how do you see it?

We travel a great deal, but we always try to find the shortest possible route, as travelling to the races actually takes a lot of time.

The last question is about your private life. Would you reveal to us where you met Michal Kyselica?

Ak ste navštívili všetky turisticky atraktívne mestá v Európe, poďte do Nišu. Ak vás hromady turistov nelákajú a chcete objavovať Balkán, poďte do Nišu. Ak chcete zažiť city break, ktorý vás nezruinuje, poďte do Nišu.

My sme jedno z najstarších balkánskych miest navštívili v marci 2019 na 4 dni.

Už samotný prílet na letisko je zážitkom, keďže patrí medzi najmenšie, aké sme kedy navštívili. Jedna pasová kontrola, jeden spoločný vestibul. Pred letiskom bankomat, v ktorom sme si zmenili peniaze a do mesta sme sa odviezli auto-

väzňov — silný mrazivý zážitok, pri ktorom si uvedomíte, že krutosti 2. svetovej vojny sa netýkali len nášho stredoeurópskeho regiónu. Zaujímavosťou je, že z koncentračného tábora Červený kríž sa podaril najväčší útek z tábora — až 150 väzňom.

Po stopách 2. svetovej vojny sme sa vybrali do Memorial parku Bubajn za mestom. Na jeho kopci nájdete monument — 3 vysoké zovreté päste (muža, ženy a dieťaťa), ktoré sú pamätníkom popraveným.

Práve na kopci Bubajn boli totiž popravovaní väzni koncentračného tábora.

PAMÄTNÍKY Z 2. SVETOVEJ VOJNY

Počas nášho výletu sme v Niši stihli pozrieť takmer všetky pamiatky, ktoré odporúčajú cestovateľské portály. Pritom sme si v pokoji stihli vychutnať aj atmosféru mesta. Budovy v meste dýchajú komunizmom, ktorý sa bije s modernými svetovými značkami. „Must see“ zastávkou je koncentračný tábor. Zachované baraky, interiérová expozícia, ktorá približuje osobné príbehy

Na pevnosť z 18. storočia sme narazili, aj keď sme ju nehľadali. Nachádza sa v centre mesta a vedie k nej most ponad rieku Nisavu. Pevnosť, alebo Tvrdava, je pekným miestom na prechádzku, pretože pôsobí skôr ako mestský park. Jej predchodcom však bolo antické mesto, preto sme počas cesty narazili na viac či menej zachovalé pamiatky — mešitu, sklad zbraní či rímske ruiny…

Od pevnosti je to len na skok na miestnu tržnicu, ktorá pripomína tradičné trhovisko, aké nájdete aj u nás. Zastávka sa však oplatí, pretože Srbi sú veľmi milí, zhovorčiví a priateľskí ľudia.

Turkom, no keď videli, že sú v menšine, zapálili pušný prach a s Turkami padli aj oni. Turecký paša ako výstrahu pred ďalšími povstaniami oskalpoval ich lebky a dal z nich postaviť vežu, kde dnes nájdete len okolo 50 lebiek, no v minulosti ich vraj boli stovky.

Za návštevu v Niši ešte určite stojí aj archeologický park Medijana. Tvoria ho zachovalé ruiny kedysi noblesného rozľahlého palácového komplexu z čias Konštantína Veľkého a lákavé sú najmä zachovalé mozaiky na podlahe.

Gastroturistom určite odporúčame ochutnať srbské národné jedlo — pljeskavicu. Môžete si ju dať ako klasický hamburger alebo v arabskom chlebe, jej základom je pomleté bravčové alebo hovädzie mäso v tvare placky pečené na ražni.

Premýšľate, či sa oplatí navštíviť Srbsko? My sme boli s našou cestou a zážitkami spokojní. Nejde o žiadne Miláno či Londýn, no takéto menej vyhľadávané lokácie vám vedia priniesť viac pohody a oddychu.

HĽADANIE VEŽE LEBIEK

Veža lebiek je tiež jednou z top pamiatok, ktoré v Niši stoja za návštevu. Preto sme ju nechceli vynechať. Aj keď je mesto kompaktné, v požičanom aute sme sa chvíľu nevedeli orientovať a krúžili sme okolo veže bez toho, aby sme vedeli, že sme pri nej. Až po chvíli sme zazreli, že pred ňou skoro stojíme — obklopuje ju malý parčík. Lístok si kúpite v domčeku pred ním, kde je aj expozícia približujúca boje Turkov na Balkáne.

If you have visited all the attractive cities in Europe, come to Niš. If you do not like crowds of tourists and want to discover the Balkans, come to Niš. If you want to experience a city break that doesn’t break the bank, come to Niš.

We visited one of the oldest cities in the Balkans for 4 days in March 2019.

Arriving at the airport is an expe­ rience as it is one of the smallest we have ever visited. One passport desk, one shared hall. In front of the airport there was an ATM where we changed our mo­ ney and took bus no 34, having doubted till the last minute whether the stop rea­ lly was a stop.

MONUMENTS FROM THE SECOND WORLD WAR

During our trip to Niš we managed to see almost all the sights recommended by the travel portals. At the same time, we managed to enjoy the atmosphere of the city in peace. The buildings in the city breathe an atmosphere of communism, which battles with modern global brands.

The essential place to visit is the Crveni Krst concentration camp. The preserved barracks and an indoor exhibition showing the personal stories of prisoners form a chilling experience which makes one realize that the atrocities of World War II were not only committed in our Central European region. It is interesting that up to 150 prisoners made a large escape from the concentration camp.

Following the World War II trail, we went to Bubanj Memorial Park outside the city. On the hill you will find a monument — 3 raised clenched fists (man, woman and child), which are a memorial to those executed. It was on Bubanj Hill that the prisoners from the concentration camp were executed.

NIŠ FORTRESS

We came across this 18th century fortress without looking for it. Located in the centre of the city, there is a bridge over the River Nišava. The fortress, or “Tvrdava” in Serbian, is a nice place to walk because

it looks more like a city park. However, its predecessor was an ancient city, so we encounter more or less preserved monuments — a mosque, weapons store or Roman ruins…

From the fortress it is just a short walk to the local market, which resembles a traditional marketplace like one can find in Slovakia. However, the stop is worth it because the Serbs are very nice, talkative and friendly people.

SEARCHING FOR THE SKULL TOWER

The Skull Tower is also one of the top sights worth visiting in Nis, so we didn’t want to miss it. Even though the city is compact, it took a while to find our way around in our rented car, so we circled the tower without knowing we were there.

Only after a while we saw that we were standing almost right in front of it, surrounded by a small park. You can buy

a ticket in the hut in front of it, where there is also an exhibition about the Turks’ battles in the Balkans.

The three-metre-high tower is embedded with human skulls. The Serbs rose up against the Turks, but when they saw that they were outnumbered, they set fire to their gunpowder and fell along with the Turks. As a warning against further uprisings, the Turkish Pasha scalped their skulls and built a tower, where today only about 50 skulls can be found, but in the past, there were hundreds of them.

Mediana Archaeological Park is also worth a visit. It consists of the well-preserved ruins of a large noble palace complex from the time of Constantine the Great and it is particularly attractive for its preserved mosaics on the floor.

We certainly recommend lovers of gastronomy taste the Serbian national food — pljeskavica. It can be served as a classic hamburger or in pita bread. It’s based on ground pork or beef pancakes roasted on a spit.

Are you wondering if it is worth visi­ t­ing Serbia? We were satisfied with our journey and experiences. It is not Milan or London, but these less well-known locations can offer you more comfort and relaxation.

City break tiež znamená veľa prechádzok po nerovných cestách v historických centrách miest, no ešte viac schodov do metra či dlhé postávanie v rade na lístky na Eiffelovku. Nezabudnite si preto pribaliť dostatočne pohodlnú obuv, ktorá je kľúčom k pohodlnému pocitu na cestách.

VECI, KTORÉ NEPOTREBUJETE, NECHAJTE DOMA

To, čo si môžete kúpiť priamo v destinácii, pokojne nechajte doma. Idete na víkend do metropoly a tam si vždy všetko kúpite, niekedy aj lacnejšie. Zabudnite na malé šampóny do lietadla, mydlá či dezinfekčné gély na ruky. Zbytočne vám zaberú extra miesto v batožine, ktoré ste si mohli ušetriť na darčeky a suveníry.

Hotely majú všetko, čo bežný cestovateľ potrebuje pre každodenné fungovanie.

Cestovanie bez kufra, iba s príručnou batožinou, sa dnes stáva úplne bežnou vecou, nie iba medzi low budget cestovateľmi. Obvykle tie najlacnejšie letenky nemajú v cene zahrnutý kufor. Navyše, počuli ste už o malej príručnej batožine?

Malá príručná batožina je novinka medzi cestovateľmi a kým v minulosti bolo úplne bežné, že ste si mohli na palubu lietadla vziať príručnú batožinu klasických rozmerov, čo je menší kufrík, dnes to je často za poplatok.

Ak by ste neradi platili pokutu za nadváhu alebo rozmery, budete sa musieť zbaliť do malej príručnej batožiny. Nemusíte sa báť, môžete si do nej zbaliť úplne to isté, ako do klasickej príručnej batožiny, no budete sa musieť potrápiť s miestom.

Na letiskách nájdete často tie „klietkové merače“, do ktorých svoju príručnú batožinu vložíte a tam sa uvidí, či ste dodržali rozmery. Odporúčam do lietadla nastupovať ako posledný, vtedy sa kráti čas a lietadlo musí odletieť. Z toho dôvodu pri posledných pasažieroch letiskový personál až taký prísny nebýva. Ak ste ale rozmery prekročili výrazne, zastavia vás tak či tak.

Celý trik balenia sa do malej príručnej batožiny spočíva v tom položiť ruksak na jeho dno, a všetko doň vkladať zboku a následne vrstviť. Predstavte si lasagne, tak to funguje aj pri balení. Keď je všetko oblečenie na seba pekne poukladané, na vrch dajte kozmetiku a voňavky, ktoré tiež treba pri letiskovej kontrole vyberať zvlášť. Šťastný let.

Many of us stress about packing, especially for shorter journeys. That’s why we often pack everything that “might come in handy”, but in reality, we won’t really need it. are comfortable enough, which is the key to a comfortable trip.

LEAVE WHAT YOU DON’T NEED AT HOME

Leave anything you can buy at the destination at home. You’re going to a metropolis for a weekend and you can always buy everything there, sometimes for cheaper. Forget about small aeroplane shampoos, soaps and hand disinfectants. They just take extra space in your luggage, which you could save for gifts and souvenirs. Hotels have everything a normal traveller needs for everyday life.

The whole trick of packing into a small carry-on bag is to put the rucksack on its bottom and put everything into it from the side and then layer it. Imagine it like lasagne; that’s how it works when you pack. When all the clothes are nicely piled in, put the cosmetics and scents on top, as they need to be removed separately at the airport check. Have a nice flight.

CHECK WHAT THE WEATHER WILL BE LIKE AND DON’T FORGET COMFORTABLE SHOES Checking the weather forecast before every trip is so trivial that we often forget it. It happens to me all the time. The forecast is always the best advice for what to pack for a city break. Rain in London, sun in Dubai or wind in Athens? You ca‌‌n’t change the weather, but you can change what you pack in your suitcase. A city break also means a lot of walking on un­ even pavements in historic city centres, in addition to stairs to the underground or standing in long lines for tickets to the Eiffel Tower. Be sure to pack shoes that

Travelling without a suitcase, only with carry-on luggage has become a normal thing, not just for budget travellers. The cheapest tickets don’t typically include a suitcase in the price. While in the past it was normal that you could take a standard-size carry-on bag on board the plane in the form of a small case, now there is often a charge for that.

If you don’t want to pay a penalty for overweight or oversized luggage, you will have to pack into a small carry-on bag.

Don’t worry, you can pack the same into it as with standard carry-on luggage, but you’ll have to struggle with the space.

Liquids with a total volume of 1 litre must be divided into 100 ml bottles. We also add clothing, cosmetics and some food.

If you are worried about sizes, I can set your mind at ease. At airports, the dimensions of small carry-on bags are not measured with a ruler, if at all. If you are within 3 centimetres, don’t worry about it. At airports, you will often find “cage gauges” in which you can place your hand luggage and see if it fits the dimensions. Z Letiska M. R. Štefánika sa od 3. novembra 2019 otvorila nová linka, ktorú prevádzkuje letecká spoločnosť Wizz Air. Cieľovou destináciou je ukrajinské čiernomorské mesto Odesa, ktoré je 3. najväčším mestom Ukrajiny.

1. MLADÉ MESTO

Odesu založila cárovná Katarína II. ako vojenský prístav v roku 1794. Od svojho vzniku sa mestu podarilo rásť a rozvinúť sa. Dnes má viac ako 1 milión obyvateľov a je vyhľadávanou turistickou destináciou.

2. NAJVÄČŠÍ UKRAJINSKÝ PRÍSTAV

Vojenský prístav sa časom zmenil na dôležitý dopravný a obchodný uzol. V roku 1815 mesto získalo výsadu — možnosť bezcolného obchodu. To pretvorilo Odesu na kozmopolitné mesto, kam smerovali obchodníci z celého sveta, ale aj množstvo pašerákov a podvodníkov. V meste preto nájdete aj múzeum kontrabandu.

3. PÝCHA MESTA

Slávna budova odeskej opery a baletu patrí jednoznačne medzi najkrajšie budovy v meste. Jej dirigentom bol aj slávny ruský skladateľ Čajkovskij. Po vyhorení pôvodnej budovy ju navrhli rakúski architekti Ferdinand Fellner a Hermann Helmer, ktorí postavili aj Historickú budovu SND v Bratislave.

The famous theatre of opera and ballet is definitely one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The conductor was once the famous Russian composer Tchaikovsky. After the original building burned down, it was rebuilt by Austrian architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, who also built the Historic Building of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava.

Deribasivska Boulevard is the most famous street in the city, which no tourist will miss. It was named after José de Ri­ bas, the Spanish man who built the Odessa port. This pedestrian zone is lined with shops, cafes, restaurants, and is full of street artists and vendors. In the past, Russian writers like Gogol and Pushkin enjoyed the atmosphere of the boulevard.

5. THE MOST FAMOUS STAIRS

IN CINEMA HISTORY

You can find them right here in Odessa, which in 1905 was visited by the rebel Battleship Potemkin. The townspeople welcomed the rebel sailors, but the were dispersed by soldiers and the police. This event was immortalized by the Russian director Sergei Eisenstein in the film of the same name. The most famous scene captures the crowd running from the shooting down the 192 wide stone stairs.

Letisko M. R. Štefánika je v aktuálnom zimnom období spojené s hlavným mestom Spojeného kráľovstva pravidelnými linkami na dve veľké medzinárodné letiská — Londýn-Luton a Londýn-Stansted. Čo určite zažiť počas svojej cesty? Odpoveď nám poskytla Ivana Baranová, Slovenka, ktorá na ostrovnom štáte žije už 4 roky.

„Veľká Británia má nádhernú architektúru, z ktorej sú podľa mňa najznámejšie tehlové domčeky, často ako z rozprávky.

Londýn sa dá jedným slovom opísať ako mix. Pretože je naozaj multikultúrny a nájdete v ňom naozaj všetko — od národov z celého sveta až po všetky možné kuchyne. Nie je problém skočiť si na kvalitnú čínu či pizzu. A k tomu všetkému tu máte aj doubledecker — typický poschodový autobus.

Ak by som mala vybrať miesta, ktoré určite treba navštíviť, tak mojou srdcov-

kou je Hyde park, ktorý je nádherný najmä v lete. Je to najväčší park v Londýne s jazerom a možnosťou vodného bicyklovania. Potom určite odporúčam výhľad z London Eye — aj keď tu žijem už štvrtý rok, našla som si na túto atrakciu čas až minulý rok a bol to skvelý zážitok. Samozrejme, za návštevu stojí aj Greenwich park s nultým poludníkom, aj toto miesto ponúka nádherný výhľad.

Ak chcete ochutnať tradičnú kuchyňu, tak typickým jedlom je jednoznačne Fish & chips. Ja by som však ešte odporučila dezert Sticky toffee pudding, je to taký mäkký muffin poliaty karamelom a podávaný aj so zmrzlinou. A ešte určite vyskúšajte aj Sunday Roast. Je to špeciál­ne nedeľné jedlo — na výber máte viacero druhov pečeného mäsa — jahňacie, bravčové, hovädzie alebo kuracie, ktoré je podávané s pečenými zemiakmi, grilovanou zeleninkou, s omáčkou a typickým yorkshire pudingom.“

In the current winter season, M. R. Štefánik Airport is connected to the UK by regular flights to two major international airports — London-Luton and LondonStansted. What to experience during your trip? The answer was provided by Ivana Baranová, a Slovak who has been living in this island kingdom for 4 years.

“Britain has beautiful architecture, of which I think the brick houses are the best known, often as if from a fairy tale.

London can be described in one word as a mix. Because it is truly multicultural and you will find everything — people from all over the world and all possible different cuisines. It’s easy to jump out for a good Chinese or pizza. And in addition to all that, it has the iconic doubledecker buses.

If I had to choose places to visit, my heart would go for Hyde Park, which is especially beautiful in summer. It is the largest park in London and it has a lake and water bicycles. Then I’d definitely recommend the view from the London Eye — even though I’ve been living here for four years, I found the time for this attraction just last year and it was a great experience. Of course, it is also worth visiting the Greenwich Park with the meridian, and there is a wonderful view from there.

If you want to taste traditional cuisine, the traditional food is definitely fish & chips. But I’d also recommend the dessert sticky toffee pudding; it’s like a soft muffin covered with toffee sauce and served with ice cream. Be sure to check out the Sunday Roast. It’s a special Sunday meal — you can choose from
