Smarter Philippines Launch Wednesday, 20 February 2013 Marco Polo, Davao City
Welcome Remarks Usec. Carol M. Yorobe Undersecretary for Regional Operations, DOST
It is with great pleasure to be speaking in front of you as we all witness the unveiling of the strength of Science and Technology. In behalf of the Department of Science and Technology we would like to extend our gratitude to government agencies, ICT Industry associations, and Local Government Units that have spent their time for this momentous event. The challenge for the Philippines continues, hence a need to search for solutions that can bridge these gaps are still ongoing.
This event is going to change the way we see technology in the Philippines. The Philippine Government sees a lot of potential in doing things the “smarter way.” And in line with this, we would like to formally open the program launch of Smarter Philippines. This is not just an ordinary program launch because in a few hours we will be able to understand what is at stake as S&T becomes one of the strong tools that could change the whole structure of the country in terms of improving the lives of Filipinos. My role in this program is to engage you on the reason why we are really here. For the past years, the country has faced societal problems that today need doable solutions. In behalf of the Department of Science and technology, may I just name some of the few of these “smarter solutions.” In just a few minutes we will be able to finally discover about these smarter solutions that I have been talking about. We will be able to put definition on these terminologies such as: Smarter Living, Smarter Economy, Smarter
Environment, Smarter Government, Smarter People, and Smarter Mobility. All of these will be discussed further by DOST’s Secretary Mario G. Montejo. This program will also be a venue to showcase some of the “smart technologies” that we have already been using for this country since the start of the Governance of His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III. All these and more will be the content of this Launch.
Again, thank you for coming to this event and for the continued support to the programs of the Philippine Government.
Maraming Salamat and Mabuhay!
