WELCOME Hello and welcome to our new season here at The Y, Leicester’s oldest surviving theatre. This season you can expect yet another vibrant and varied programme, with plenty of fabulously funny comedy, marvellous music and theatre, dance and spoken word that will tantalize your taste buds and inspire you to see more, so truly something for everyone! Highlights of the season include; new and exciting theatre during the Quickest Theatre Festival in town ‘14/48 Leicester’; more beautiful ballet with The Nutcracker from Ballet Theatre UK; great music from the likes of Wonder Stuff legend Miles Hunt; and family fun with our new action packed traditional Pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Mark Thomas sets out to discover what the future has in store for us by collecting and examining his own predictions and those of his audiences before gambling on their outcome. The time spent off the road allowed us to thoroughly immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the new record. Conversely the time off also refreshed our appetite for getting back on stage!”

Live/Wire Sat 13 Oct, 9pm, £15 The unique six man tribute to rock’s greatest band AC/DC, complete with cannons, a wall of Marshalls and over two hours of High Voltage Rock and Roll. Packing in the classics like Whole Lotta Rosie, Highway To Hell, Thunderstruck and Back In Black into a 2 hour plus show, Live/Wire also throw in a few surprises for fans to savour! Limehouse Lizzy Fri 27 Oct, 9pm, £15 Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy alive, well and dominating stages worldwide. The band have also added a tribute into their show to ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist (and world renowned solo artist) Gary Moore. Limehouse Lizzy enter their 22nd year with their most explosive show and critically-acclaimed line-up yet.

Back in Leicester after 4 years! Enjoy an evening of musical celebration with Fairport Convention at this golden anniversary concert. Credited with originating British folk-rock, Fairport first took to the stage in 1967. Throughout the intervening five decades, the band’s passion for live performance has never wavered. To mark its fiftieth year, Fairport has released a new CD titled 50:50@50. The band will play a selection of tracks from the album as well as long-established favourites.

Them Heavy People: Kate Bush Tribute Band

Nigerian Tunji Sowande quietly breaks through multiple barriers to become Britain’s first Black judge in 1978. Also a fine concert singer and keen cricket lover, he muses on international politics and history as they affect the Black world from Africa to the USA and Britain, from the point of view of one who would rather watch sports, spread love and peace through the medium of song.

Them Heavy People are ‘Wowing’ audiences with every gig, as their stage show includes projections and iconic costume changes that all add up to make this band the closest interpretation of a Kate Bush show. Nadine Turner has been an active fan of Kate’s for many years, and has spent time as a solo act, perfecting her Kate impression. She has an uncanny vocal resemblance to Kate, with note perfect renditions of many of Kate’s hits, and is backed by a band of seasoned professionals that strive for authentic recreations of Kate’s songs. This band is a 'must see’ for any Kate Bush fan!

A BALLROOM & LATIN DANCE EXPLOSION!

Fri 2 Dec, 7.30pm, £12/£10 conc/£40 family of 4 One of Tchaikovsky’s most famous compositions, this well-loved traditional Christmas ballet will be performed in a unique setting with 24 international dancers, from companies around the world. The story recounts the adventures of a young girl Clara the night before Christmas. When Clara falls asleep with her Nutcracker, an army of mice attack her toys and the Nutcracker.

This up close and personal show promises to be a night to remember. Camilla, one of the original professionals and champion in 2008 is joined by her professional partner Ian Waite, who has appeared in nearly every series of the show. During the show, Ian and Camilla will perform some amazing Latin and Ballroom routines and tell their inside stories from Strictly Come Dancing. PLUS, meet Ian & Camilla after the show!

This opulent new production promises everything you love about The Nutcracker. Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable musical score combines with magical choreography, exquisite costumes and breathtaking scenery that together creates an atmosphere of fantasy and illusion. A thrilling tale of magic, heroism, love and betrayal adapted from the novel Arthur: High King of Britain, by Michael Morpurgo, the author of War Horse and Private Peaceful. A drowning boy is rescued by a mysterious figure who claims to be Arthur Pendragon. As the old man tells his stories, he is transported back to the heady days of Camelot, the Round Table, Merlin, Excalibur, Lancelot and Guinevere.

Christmas Carol Service Wed 6 Dec, 7pm, Free Come and join us for live performances, Bible readings and carol singing. Our cosy carol service is a great time to meet with friends and celebrate Christmas with mulled wine and mince pies. The event is free and open to all communities. However if you wish to give a donation you could help give a homeless young adult a safe place to call home and the support they need to create lasting change in their lives. Add in a dashing prince, a talking mirror, a couple of inept murderers, a Dame to die for, the Queen's henchman and - oh yes - an apprentice fairy trying to earn her wings and you get a fast moving, action packed traditional pantomime. Sun 24 Dec, 11am & 1pm, £10/£36 family of 4 Once there was a boy and one day he found a penguin at his door. He didn’t know where it had come from or who it belonged to. The penguin looked sad and the boy thought it must be lost. So he decided to help it find its way home, even if that meant rowing all the way to the South Pole. This funny, charming tale of friendship is the perfect treat for a younger audience. Brought to life with puppetry, songs and music, this fantastic new show is suitable for ages 3+ and their grown-ups.
