With nearly 40 golf courses within a 15mile radius, including the host courses for the 2024 U S Open and 2022 U S Women’s Open Championships, it’s no surprise that the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area is known as the Home of American Golf® We will soon be the home of “Golf House Pinehurst”, too The USGA will establish a second headquarters in Pinehurst, to include a new equipment-testing facility, innovation hub, museum/visitor center and offices by 2023, and will host five U S Open Championships on Pinehurst No 2 by 2047
Nestled in the rolling Sandhills of central North Carolina, the Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen area was also the long-time home to the father of golf course architecture, Donald Ross, and is home to many of his masterpieces and some of golf’s most memorable moments.

The course traverses natural, rolling land that is tucked within the back nine of the Magnolia course. Considered to be the most challenging, the Grey Fox Course covers hilly terrain with several doglegs cut through towering pines. Shot making is a premium on this well bunkered layout with characteristic elevated greens. Heavily guarded with deep bunkers, golfers find it important to position the ball on the proper side of the fairway to get the best approach angle to these slightly smaller greens.

Water comes into play on 6 holes requiring forced carries from the back tees but with the option of going around the hazards from the forward tees. Southern Pines Brewing Company first started as an idea in March of 2013. Micah, John, and Jason were at the mid-point of their military careers as Green Berets in the U.S. Army, and they all served on the same Operational Detachment Alpha Team in 3rd Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being reassigned, the three teammates decided to turn in their uniforms for brewers’ boots to start a craft brewery.

The owners of Hatchet, Mike and Greg, met as neighbors while Greg was in Special Forces training and Mike was the Senior Operations Sergeant Major of the 82nd Airborne Division. Both quickly bonded over a love of brewing and their shared experiences in the military. Realizing how powerful brewing and a shared interest in craft beer can be, Mike and Greg wanted to create a place where people can relax, share experiences, and develop new friendships over great beer. So, in 2017, they established Hatchet Brewing Company and celebrated the grand opening with Southern Pines, North Carolina in the fall of 2019.
