Lee Wen's book entitled A Waking Dream, published in 1981, precedes the manga generation of today showing evidence of his inclination to use dream and reality as a perennial image of how human consciousness desire to comprehend life perceived through our deceptive senses. Lee Wen works as a mixed media artist presenting works as drawings. paintings, installations, photographs, videos, performance and documentations
Best known for his Yellow Man series of work, the multidisciplinary artist is also one of Singapore’s pioneering performance artists. Through constructed personas the artist plays provocateur, motivated by a strong conviction of justice and idealism, with a persistence to stay true to the self in an unsympathetically structured world. Lee often uses his life experiences and personal dilemmas as initial entries into an artistic journey, recovering memories and remaking mythologies.
