President and CEO Nicholson Staffing Solutions Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud: Taking a leap of faith and devoting all of my energy to growing Nicholson Staffing Solutions. In September of 2010, I left a consulting engagement and worked out of our spare bedroom. I had no sales or management experience but was fortunate to have some amazing mentors in my corner. Most significant charity work/community involvement: My wife and I are big supporters of Smile Train, a charity that provides corrective surgeries to children with cleft palates. After the Sandy Hook tragedy, we offered an employer match to our employees interested in contributing. Personal background and family information: I was born in England but spent the majority of my life in the states. My wife and I moved from Bethesda, Md., to Loudoun County in 2005 and it’s one of the best decisions we ever made. We have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-month-old-son. He was the first person to truly believe in my abilities, and that gave me the confidence to advance in my career. One piece of advice for other young professionals: Read “From Good to Great” and seek out an organization that follows the core principles of the book. If you can’t find that type of company in your field, strongly considering forming your own. Favorite app/program on your smartphone: LinkedIn. As our company recruits recruiters and recruiters live in LinkedIn, it’s the only logical choice. LinkedIn is to your professional life what Facebook is to your personal one.
Most significant charity work/community involvement: Participated in several medical missions to Latin America and SubSaharan Africa to deliver medications and hope to those in need. Personal background and family information: Born with a congenital heart defect, I have dedicated my life’s work to the health of others. I have been blessed with parents who challenged me to grow professionally and personally into the man that I am today. Person you admire the most and why: Nelson Mandela. Because he is a champion for peace, forgiveness and racial unity.
