September 2025 – November 2026

This August marks one year since I joined Leeds Heritage Theatres as CEO, and what a year it’s been. I’ve had the chance to meet inspiring people, witness unforgettable performances, and reflect deeply on the role our venues play in the life of our city.

This year, we’ve been thinking hard about the future. About how we grow, who we serve, and how we continue to create space for bold, exciting, and meaningful work. That means celebrating local identity while welcoming creative voices from across the UK and beyond – on stage, on screen, and perhaps in places we’ve not yet explored.

Our beautiful venues are more than just buildings. They’re places for connection, joy, challenge and celebration, and this season reflects all of that and more.

I’m especially excited that we’ll be welcoming our third National Theatre production this year with Dear England, a moving and funny story about football and what brings us together.

At Leeds Grand Theatre, Opera North returns with a brand-new production of The Sound of Music, and we’re thrilled to present Northern Ballet ’s Merlin, a magical adventure for all ages, as well as The Nutcracker, a sparkling festive tradition for families.

We’re also hosting an exciting run of West End hits, including the global stage sensation MAMMA MIA! , the hilarious Mrs. Doubtfire, the empowering musical comedy Legally Blonde, 2:22: A Ghost Story, and more.

From TINA – The Tina Turner Musical to John Cleese’s Fawlty Towers: The Play, Sunny Afternoon to Here & Now: The Steps Musical, there’s something to lift every spirit.

Over at City Varieties Music Hall, our much-loved Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto returns with Aladdin, alongside a packed programme of music, comedy, and variety.

And at Hyde Park Picture House, you’ll find a beautifully curated mix of new releases, cult favourites, guiltfree festive pleasures and seasonal classics, including our now-traditional screening of It’s a Wonderful Life.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Leeds audiences are known for their warmth and energy, and we’re so proud to share these stories with you.

Sat 4 – Wed 22 October 2025

Opera and dance combine in this story with a dark heart and strong contemporary resonance.

Susanna is the victim of two powerful, predatory men out to destroy her reputation. As society swallows their lies and public opinion turns, Susanna holds fast to her truth.

This collaboration between Opera North and Phoenix Dance Theatre is a compelling story for our times, set against some of Handel’s most memorably melodic music performed live by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North.

Sat 18 October – Sat 1 November 2025

A heart-warming tale of friendship and romance that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure.

When struggling poet Rodolfo meets quiet seamstress Mimì, it’s love at first sight. With empty pockets but full hearts, will their love be enough to see them through a freezing winter in 1960s France?

This acclaimed production, complete with Puccini’s glorious music performed live by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North, speaks straight to the heart of anyone who has ever been young and loved and lost.

It’s supposed to be the happiest day of Figaro and Susanna’s lives.

But with Count Almaviva looking set to make a move on the bride-to-be, the young couple must hatch a shrewd plan to secure their happy ending. Cue a whirlwind of secret scheming and surprise revelations.

This new production reimagines the mischief in a quintessential modern country home. With Mozart’s music performed live by the Orchestra and Chorus of Opera North, it all adds up to an invitation that’s too good to turn down.
