Personal Training

The University Recreation Personal Training program offers guidance and assistance in your individual workouts by creating a personalized fitness regimen tailored to your goals, and then coaching you through your workouts to ensure that you exercise at your full potential. Our Personal Trainers provide motivation, education, support and guidance for people of all ages and fitness levels. We offer Personal Training services to individuals who are currently members of the Recreation Center. We strongly suggest working out individually with a trainer to achieve the most customized fitness program. But if you’re more comfortable sharing your sessions with a friend, we also offer Partner Training packages. If you are ready to make a commitment to your health and fitness goals with our Personal Training program, please visit our website for guidelines on how to get started, Personal Trainer bios, package pricing and other important information.

family hours information

We’ve updated our policies regarding family use of the Recreation Center. Please note the changes below. To review our family policies in their entirety, please visit our website. • Saturday and Sunday before 3 p.m. • Children ages 6 to 13 are allowed to join their parent, if a member, at no additional cost for activities in the four court gymnasium, on the jogging track or the climbing wall during Family Hours.

www.cwu.edu/rec

• The parent must be present and actively involved with the child in the chosen activity. • Children ages 5 and under are NOT allowed in the Recreation Center at any time, including during Family Hours. • A member may NOT bring children with them who are not their dependents. • Regarding the Climbing Wall, the parent must be involved with their child in the climbing activity. Our staff will be present to supervise; however, Family Hours are not designed to be an instructional time by our staff. Parents wanting to belay their child will need to obtain a belay certification. • A maximum of eight children can be in the climbing wall area at any given time during Family Hours, with a one hour time limit for each child. • Guest passes can be purchased for use during Family Hours, but each adult guest and each child guest must purchase an individual guest pass at the current rate. • Dependents ages 14 and older are eligible to purchase a membership or guest pass to the Recreation Center at any time, and are not admitted free of charge during Family Hours. Those who are age 14 to 17 must be supervised by a parent at all times.

class descriptions Abs & Glutes (45 mins) 45 minutes of only abs and glutes… this class is sure to make you sweat! This intense workout will focus entirely on making those tummies and hind ends work like they never have. Non-impact and efficient, you will definitely “feel the burn” and be begging for more! This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Ballet Conditioning (45 mins) Even if you have two left feet, you will love this ballet-based workout! If you’re looking to increase your flexibility, develop core strength, tone your muscles, or simply add a new dimension to your fitness routine, this is the class for you. Only a motivated mind and body are required… no tutu’s, ballet shoes or leotards. Just you in your favorite workout gear and a bottle of water! This class promises to be fun and is suitable for all fitness levels.

Core & More (45 mins) What is Core & More? Think Boot Camp, minus the jumping around and running in place. We’ll take 30 minutes to strength train every major (and some minor) muscle groups with weighted equipment, then conclude with 15 minutes of abdominal-focused training. Expect to use all types of equipment and move your body in new ways to really challenge your muscles and create some definition. Core & More is a cult favorite from years past and is suitable for absolutely everyone!

This class moves rapidly through yoga poses and sequences, increasing your heart rate and challenging your body. Using the breath to connect one posture to the next, expect to improve your balance and flexibility while giving your heart a workout and your mind a break. We’ll conclude each class with classic yoga stretching postures and a few moments of final relaxation. Fitness Yoga is a hatha style of yoga, following the principles of vinyasa, or “flow” yoga. And it’s perfect for beginners and advanced yogis alike!

Gentle Yoga (45 mins) Designed to lift your physical energy and calm your mind, this slower-paced yoga class focuses on individual poses, as opposed to flowing through poses, like we do in Fitness Yoga. This is a perfect class for beginning yogis, those with specific physical needs, anyone rehabbing an injury or individuals looking for a mental break from the chaos of daily life and workouts. This class is suitable for all fitness levels. Hip Hop (45 mins) Do you love Zumba® but are looking for something a little funkier? Then Hip Hop is the class for you! Get a workout while busting a move to fun music with fellow dance-loving friends. Dancing is a great way to tone your muscles, improve your cardiovascular fitness and coordination, and put your brain to work. So, grab your water bottle, sneakers and your friends and hit the dance floor!

class descriptions (continued)

Mat Pilates (60 mins) Mat Pilates is a very user-friendly, mat-based pilates workout that promotes strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. This super-sweaty, muscle-challenging, ONE HOUR pilates toning class is based on a traditional matbased pilates workout but has added intensity and speed. You’ll sculpt a leaner, tighter body in a controlled, non-impact class and improve core strength and coordination. And don’t be surprised to use equipment in this class to assist your muscles and add variety to your pilates training. Mat Pilates is appropriate for all fitness levels and ages and is especially beneficial for those experiencing low back pain or recovering from muscle injury, as the workouts are selfpaced and progressive.

Pure Step (45 mins) This class is as simple as it’s name… pure stepping fun! Come prepared for a serious cardio workout, using the bench step only. We will work through variable levels of step combinations on and around the bench, occasionally adding in some high intensity intervals, and finish up with an efficient stretch. This class is perfect for step gurus but may be too challenging for first time steppers.

Pure Strength (45 mins)

22

45 minutes of straight muscle building… this will be fun! We’ll use hand weights, stability balls, benches, body bars, exer-tubing and the BOSU to sculpt strong muscles in both your upper and lower body. Think a weight room style of workout in the comfort of an enclosed fitness studio… no eyeballing or people-watching, just a straightforward workout! And Pure Strength is a great workout for everyone, as plenty of options are available for all fitness levels.

Spinning ® (45 mins) Get the most bang for your buck with Spinning! Our indoor cycling classes are tailored to suit a wide range of abilities and fitness goals, while providing the most energizing and entertaining outdoor-inspired cycling rides. Each of our instructors teaches slightly different from each other, providing a different type of coaching and music selection for each class… you’re guaranteed to find a favorite! And Spinning isn’t just about intense physical training. It’s a way to help you discover your own personal edge and push that edge farther than you think you can, to extend your fitness limits. Just don’t forget your water or a sweat towel, as you’ll need it in this class! All fitness levels are welcome in this class.

Spin ® -Strength (45 mins) Get the most from your workout! Spend 45 minutes sculpting your muscles and pumping up your heart. Similar to interval training, you’ll alternate strength training segments with cycling on the Spin bike, taking your workout to new limits. Come early to set up your bike and equipment station. And don’t forget your water or sweat towel … you’re going to need both in this class! Spin ® -Yoga (60 mins) Spin-Yoga combines two of your favorite fitness formats, Spinning® and yoga, into one class. You can expect 30 minutes of Spinning® followed by 30 minutes of yoga-based stretching and relaxation. What an excellent combination, especially on a Friday afternoon! All fitness levels are welcome in this class.

Step Interval (45 mins) That’s right… step aerobics has returned! But we’re taking the basic step workout up a notch, by adding strength intervals to create a freakishly efficient workout for you! We’ll alternate short segments of basic step choreography with severe cardio blasts. Be prepared for a brain workout, too, as step choreography can be challenging. But we’ll try to keep it simple and give everyone a great workout! This class is suitable for all fitness levels.

Step & Strength (45 mins) Much like our Step Interval class, this class combines high intensity step combinations with muscle blasting strength training segments. You can expect 5-6 minutes on the step, followed by 3-5 minutes with weights- whew! Sound tough? This class is very high energy and will definitely get your heart pumping but is suitable for all fitness levels. Just come ready to work out… hard!

Zumba ® (45 mins) Looking for a more motivating and flat out fun way to work out? Then Zumba® is for you! This class fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow dance moves to create a workout unlike any other. The goal is simple: dance like nobody’s watching and have more fun than you’ve ever experienced in a workout class! You don’t want to miss this one! Zumba® is a great workout for all ages and fitness levels and no dance experience is required.
